Slayer being Shinji in a way kinda works all thoese repressed emotions boiling over as an adult and fueled by all the madness he suffered from doom to now (Daisy getting offed included) just channeled into manhandeling demons
Good idea, but reason behind his change still unanswered. But if you will do second part with answers then I don't have questions. Also a request or perhaps idea. Shinji as Raiden (could be both past or future). If past then why he is "coward" is because he doesn't want to come back to being Jack The Ripper part of his. If future when because he knows what he can do and what he is because he had to survive before becoming part of the crew.
(Just to let you know i didn't watch envangaelion so i might be innacurrate ) I believe I have a clear answer to why he changed just look at shinjis life so much pain and suffering and despair very few to almost noone cared about him or stood up for him for most of his life he was someone's punching bag ex: Asuka or what just seen as worthless and etc as well as being mistreated and seen only as a weapon to be used in others eyes ex: his bastard of a father. So him becoming the doom slayer isn't too surprising people do have a limit and what changed shinji is that he couldn't take it anymore the mental health problems and etc was too much what have nailed the final nail in the coffin for example I'm sure he may have found out what his mother wanted for him but due to his father's selfishness her wishes were ignored to shinji learning this was the last straw his behavior did a complete 180 he was no longer the somber depressed weakling he decided that he wouldn't take anyone's bullcrap anymore he decided if his father only wanted a weapon then he would show him one but he wouldn't be under anyone's control he became cold , somewhat stoic, ruthless to his enemies aswell to those who wronged him a personification of rage and fury but he would be as the saying goes "to fight monsters you will become a monster yourself." I'm sure when he broke he just up an disappeared making sure noone would be able to track him down and as for those who his father sent to find him and bring him back well let's just say shinji used them to give his father a BLOODY good reason why he should stay the hell away from him.
Plus I'm sure he has a immense hatred towards his father , those who support him , share his veiws/outlook and those who believe sacrificing others to gain something or for the "GREATER GOOD" is a acceptable excuse of course shinji would still protect humanity but it would be on his terms , his own free will not anyone else's.
