Affinity is a great alternative to Adobe Suite too. They pretty much have 1 to 1 equivalents to almost everything in the Adobe Suite, i.e. Photoshop = Affinity Photo, Illustrator = Designer, and Indesign = Publisher. But it's a one time purchase like $500 for everything and cheaper for students instead of Adobe's garbage subscription model.
The poor man's copyright is a post mark. Mail a copy of your work to yourself and leave the envelope sealed. It proves the time of creation if someone copies your work later.
