    Excellent video!! I have a 2004 Z4 with a bad steering column and have a replacement steering column that did NOT come with a key... Do you know if the tumbler can be removed WITHOUT a key? I will be able to use the key and tumbler from my existing ignition if I can find a way to remove the tumbler from the replacement column... Haven't found a locksmith yet and wondering if its even possible? Thanks again for the great videos!!

    Is there any way to get it off without the key? Or make the tumbler already in my car work with the key I got off another e46? I lost the keys to my e46 and went out and got one along with the tumbler for my car but didn’t know I’d need to original key to even take it out, it has an ews delete so I’m not worried about programming or nothing like that should start no problem as long as I can get the key to turn

    Hello, replacing the tumbler with a new one on an E46 and having a tough time getting the new tumbler into place! removal of the old tumbler was easy but getting the new one into place is puzzling me. Am i missing a step or is there a trick to it? I followed your instructions and everything lines up but just won't snap into place! Thanks in advance

    After the tumbler is removed can I pull the key out or will this make the pins fall apart? Happened with the glove box tumbler, only way I was able to remove it safely was to apply a constant pressure on the pins as I pulled it out and basically taping it down to keep the pins from jumping out with the key not in, will this work the same here? Thanks

    Why doesn't my daughters 2006 bmw x5 steering wheel not lock when the key is removed out of the lock cylinder/tumbler? Is it a bad lock cylinder? I tried putting key in ignition, but it won't go in. I gently tapped on the aluminum key hole while moving the steering wheel back and forth and the steering wheel locked. Then i started her car and then turned it off, then removed the key, and I was back at square one again. Key would not go into key hole, like something blocking it. So i repeated the above and steering wheel locked again, which allowed the key into the key hole. What is the problem, anyone?

    Will this fix the stuck tumbler in my Moms E39? If i replace it? The key goes in and out but wont turn

    • @knkjkjn
      @knkjkjn 6 лет назад

      Try to press the key very firmly into the barrel and then spin it fast towards the ignition position to" jump the tumbler over" the stuck first position. My e39 starts like that. But if you don't do that then the tumbler is just stuck In first position. Or you can try to just turn it by force , that will work too but I don't recommend it since it can brake the key in the tumbler. Hope that helps.Cheers

    Hi guys, I have a BMW 523i 39 1998 and starting of with my problem is first the key spin a fe time than one day I just can not turn the car off so I disconnected the battery. I called a locksmith and he came spend two hours on it and told me that for me to fix it he want to charge me 2100 dollars.
    I live in Australia and when I called BMW they told me to buy the housing is 306 and key barrel is 365 I am a little confused can you give me some advise onthis issue please

    • @bimmermerchant
      @bimmermerchant  7 лет назад +1

      Hello, that is a common issue on e39 models. Best recommendation is buying s steering column, similar to the one shown in our video, and having a reputable shop install it. You can then remove the tumbler from damaged steering column and install into replacement. That should solve your problem. Hope that helps.

    Not actually how it works. You just need a very straight pin. When it's lined up it will go in. Do NOT put a bend at the end. Dead straight. When it lines up it will go right in.

    You aren't removing the tumblers, you are removing the barrel.The "tunblers" are the plates inside - Also, to remove the lock, just put the key in position 1, slide in the pin and pull, takes all of 5 seconds.. Totally useless video.
