    A 2016 Special Presentation of the complete Surrender at Appomattox (2007) video. In this film, you will see the actual campsite areas at Appomattox where Lee and Grant were actually staying when the surrender was decided upon... at the exact time of year. Lee in the dry leaf woods and Grant on the beginnings of lush green grass... The field headquarters are also identical to the ones that these generals had, as well, as are the accoutrements of General Lee; the saddle, writing table, and et cetera... even his uniform was made by the same company that made Lee's uniforms originally... The surrender is held annually at the Babcock House, a period perfect house four miles from the McLean House, and a house which was there, at the time, and unlike the PRESENT DAY McLean house, would have been the actual house had they been four miles THE OTHER WAY when this happened.... in other words, it would have been EXACTLY where we filmed it...
    This RUclips commercial has had 142,877 views... so seeing the whole thing here ought to get even more... oh, and you can buy this on DVD here at:

    This video is now available on Amazon.com. complete with both men and footage of their horses, their armies, and a surrender at Appomattox with the stacking of the arms. The actual General Order #9 surrender copy of Lt. General Jubal A. Early is also shown as Lee reads it aloud. THIS IS THE ACTUAL DOCUMENT which had a first showing in Bedford, Virginia several years ago, and was filmed at that time.
    A RUclips-mandated ten minute abridgement of a film made in 2007 at the Babcock House, four miles from the McLean House. The occasion was an event held at the Babcock House, and Confederate Pictures was privileged to record the rehearsal prior to the event. Dave Palmer stars as General Robert E. Lee and Tony Daniels is General Ulysses S. Grant. Dave and Tony are the generals of choice for these two roles, and Confederate Pictures is pleased to work with these men whenever these roles are needed.
    The house in the opening shot is the actual rebuilt McLean House from the original surrender, just down the road from the Babcock House.

      @@vincentprincipato9234You are absolutely correct. It was inappropriate to pardon Lee, because he did nothing wrong, to warrant needing a pardon. The man was a Hero, and one of the greatest Generals in history! It sounds like you're jealous of how great he was, and how you yourself will never be a great man. Except amongst your fellow virtue signaling friends. 😂

    The house belonged to Wilmer McClainon whose land the first major battle of the war was fought. he then movers his family to Appomattox, a place, he thought, too far await be involved in the fighting again. After the war, he could say the war began in his front yard and ended inches front parlor!

    Very good presentation. Why did General Lee punch his gauntlet 3 times like that at the end? did that happen? what did it signify? General Grant was very gracious with the terms. I wonder if General Lee thought he would be arrested when he got to the house. Thanks from London UK.

    • @georgerolandwills7576
      @georgerolandwills7576 3 года назад +2

      Thank you! Yes, Lee did punch his gauntlet like that the three times. Our Lee impersonator, Dave Palmer, believes that it was his "if only" statement, in some way.
      Grant was more than gracious according to the two generals who played these parts; Tony Daniels and Dave Palmer, Grant was completely enamored of his old superintendent from West Point. Lee was assigned a place of prominence among West Point’s most illustrious and revered graduates. He had, after all, graduated near the top of his class, served with distinction in the Mexican War, and during the Civil War won a series of spectacular victories against the larger and better equipped (but ineptly led) Army of the Potomac. Lee embodied the values that West Point seeks to inculcate in its graduates: Duty, Honor, and Country. Lee was an exceptional officer and military engineer in the United States Army for 32 years. During this time, he served throughout the United States, distinguished himself during the Mexican-American War, and served as Superintendent of the United States Military Academy.
      And Lee had just finished outwitting and nearly destroying Grant's massive forces over the last four years! So, I think he was right to be so enamored of this man.
      Lee came to the house fully prepared to be arrested, and to offer his sword as a surrendered relic. Like President Jefferson Davis (from our GREAT SACRIFICE movie, also shown for free here on my CaptBeauregard's Channel), he was fully prepared to even be executed in the cause of Confederate rights and legality.
      This is apparently a word for word account taken from the minutes. We were allowed to film this practice session given earlier in the day.

    In 1865 General Grant was a Lt. General (The only #-Star general in the Union). The uniform in this re-enactment has him wearing the One Star of a brigadier?

    • @johnadams5489
      @johnadams5489 4 года назад

      That was in the beginning of the Video too, however Grant was wearing a 3 star chevron at the time of the Surrender. He was not a believer in a lot of fan fair. He often wore the same clothes as his men, and only put on a jacket with 3 stars. When grant heard that General Lee was going to meet him at Appomattox Court house, he put on his coat, and rode there immediately, muddy boots and all. You will also notice that General Lee wore a Confederate Uniform of a Colonel, not a full General in the Confederate Army. Lee had been promoted to a full Colonel in the Union Army before he declined to accept the Command of the Union Army offered by Lincoln.

    Robert E. Lee was too honorable a man for the Civil War. There were numerous Southern Generals that would have told the men to disperse and continue the fight by Guerrilla warfare. The war would have gone on for many years to come.

    • @joshlight6892
      @joshlight6892 2 года назад +1

      Yes, but that would not have achieved the South's goal of maintaining their own nation. It would have been little more than vengeance. Grant knew the Southern troops could do this, which is why he took pains to offer generous terms of surrender that would leave Lee and his army with some dignity. Lee cared to much for his men to have them spend the rest of their lives being little more than guerilla fighters and fugitives in their own land, Nevertheless they would have done so had they felt they had nothing else to lose. Unfortunately, many returned home to find they no longer had homes.

Unfortunately , the tide fell against him and decided to surrender, and bring an end of the civil war , which tore the federal union, at that time.
