The choice to go to a nonstandard 80% layout is really disappointing for me. TKL is essentially standardized, so its the obvious choice, and while there are a handful of variations to 75%, you still have tons of options for 3rd party, premium cases. As a Keyboard enthusiast who also loves to game, the Wooting 80He essentially fails due to this. Finding an 80% Case is hard enough, finding a Good one is even harder. Finding one that's still in production/affordable is worse, and finding one in this specific key layout is actually just impossible. The only benefit Wooting has for an 80He over making a TKL or 75% is the profit motive. We saw how they released the Alumaze60. Its a cool Case. Its also just a more expensive, worse version of the Tofu60. Now, when Wooting eventually releases their Alumaze80, or whatever they call it, there is no competition, because literally nobody makes 80% Keyboards in this weird key layout. Very lame, wooting.
I fully agree with you. The layout is most definitely not for any other reason than to make sure a good aftermarket case swap is near impossible. Its a sneaky and slightly disheartening move from them in my opinion.
Was going to get the 60he but I saw this and I'm like I play mmos and I code so I'll just the new one coming so imm just wait for them to have pre orders up
yeah but rumors are that they are releasing a zinc alloy case for the 80he so it wont be too bad. it may have a unique layout but I've heard the weight of the case is going to be around 2.2kg which is pretty good IMO. honestly as a relatively new enthusiast myself has long as the zinc alloy case isn't a massive disappointment i don't see a huge problem with it
Got to admit I was really hoping for just a 75% but its not too much bigger and yeah I don't really like that light strip but hey. It all comes down to the price to be honest. If its mega expensive there just isn't any point.
I cannot remember although I do remember on the livestream they said it did do something. Sry if there is the VOD for the stream out there I think they talked about it. Thanks for the comment!
You might want to look at the Keychron Q1 HE that I've seen popping up now. We don't know if the hall effect stuff will be as polished but it might be an alternative option.
@@ZwyloI took a quick look after reading a few comments about it in the 80HE reddit thread, and honestly it's not for me. I'm holding out hope that Wooting still recognizes the loss in sales going the arrogant we know best route and reconsider.
why did they have to go and try and be unique lol. All they needed to do was making a 75% layout which is the most common layout bought these days.. And instead they used this odd layout with wasted space, not as much as a tkl but still not needed. Also that little rgb light strip makes it look like a cheap chinese keyboard. So many budget customs have one just like that lol. I mean, thank god we will have an option that isnt TOO tiny or TOO large, but this is mad underwhelming.
@@Zwylo either way I will probably still buy it tho as it's better than the 60 and the full size haha. Just a bummer because if it was 75%, being able to mod and change out the case would be much easier.. thats the only thing I like about the 60!
Damn yeah this goofy layout really does hurt the chances of any real good case swaps. I didnt think of that. They probably designed it that way so they can sell an aftermarket alu one or something and get big money out of the custom keeb scene.
yes the design is trash. Personally im all about functionality and performance though, as ive got other typing keyboards and dont care about how a gaming keyboard looks.
@@Tirith2708 Looking like a "DIY" or custom keeb is a good thing in my opinion. It's harder to clean but it's better for sound and it's harder to kill it with small spills.
But why would i then want Wooting over other top tier brands that have products that look the same. Braindead decision. Marriage of sleek design and nice tech under the hood was what made Wooting so nice. They are generic now. (but with crappy layout)

probably around 160-170

Not digging that design at all. Kinda dissapointed ngl
Its lying between tkl and 75% to satisfy everyones need, most people buy wooting for there performace so look is not that important to them

+1 it's so big and bulky. Old school. Not my thing either. Wonder who will make the world's first low profile HE keyboard?

what does the led strip do ?

At least you like it. Everyone seems to be going to the Keychron Q1 HE after seeing the 80 layout
Oh really? I might have to look at that one if its 75%
My only wish was for it to be a standard TKL layout, not this weird mashup. Giving it a pass

Depends if you need your F row and arrow keys. do you want that TKL lookin layout or are you fine without for a 60%?
I’ve never understood why companies don’t just listen to their fanbase. We asked for a TKL, just do that.
I love that keyboards like this are exciting enough to illicit this reaction. Love my 60he. Hope you enjoy this if you get it.
Thank you!!
What case do you have on your 60he? Mine is ordered, plan on putting lekker 45s in and getting a tofu60 redux for it
