  • The calling of the prophet Isaiah is an important event that reminds children of several essential truths. The seraphim emphasizes God’s utter holiness and majesty. The touching of Isaiah’s lips with coal recalls how we are sinful and need forgiveness. As the coal from the altar removed Isaiah’s shame, the blood of Christ removed ours. Another poignant moment in this passage involves Isaiah’s eager reaction to God’s call. We, too, should be ready to wave a hand in the air and shout “send me!” at the calling of the Father. This two-part craft and game celebrate the passage and the call of Isaiah. An Isaiah paper bag puppet becomes part of a “Coal and Tongs” relay, something to create and play together. Let’s get crafty!
