Every time i see this train i'm reminded of the day my mother and i travelled from Middlesbrough to Whitby and back for the captain cook celebrations on it nearly 30 years ago. Fantastic! 👍
Was always a joy to ride 1001 back in the day, when I worked in London and they cancelled or running late the Orpington to Charing Cross at my local station Grove Park, I used to walk down to the signal fone and speak to the signalman at London Bridge as more often than not my father was up the bank of panels at London Bridge Plats 1-6 panel and they would red light a Hastings to stop at platform 2 where I would be waiting to hop on smirking at the irate folks on platform 3 as we thundered off again... I also have always believed the buffet cars on the Hastings sold superior tea and could knock you up a decent bacon sarnie better than the electric buffets say the Victoria to Dover ones. These DMU's were the darlings of the SR, fast on the pullaway, cruised nicely at 75 all the way, that throaty chuckle as the driver let the wellies go and the ride was pretty good compared to other SR units.
Is this the set owned by Hastings Diesels Ltd? I'm hoping to go on one of their day trips this year. When I was a kid, we lived in South East London. When we went up to town, the Hastings trains were always parked on platforms 5 or 6 at Charing Cross. I used to love the whistling sound they made as they revved up ready to leave.
@@laurieharper1526 this is owned by Hastings diesels Ltd. I love the thumpers and the whistling sounds. The first tour of this year is the 18th January which is a Saturday.
I travelled on the Hastings sets to / from school Sevenoaks to Tonbridge and also to/from Sevenoaks to London Cannon Street. I always thought looked so much better in BR blue/grey than Southern region green. Usually the descent from Polhill tunnel to Sevenoaks would be particularly memorable as the 12 car set would roar out of the tunnel while still accelerating at maximum power
Certainly makes a bit of a change from green! I don't know much about the hastings unit or this era demus in general. Somone enlighten me, is this a spare power car or something?
I believe the black triangle was only used on 2 and 3-car sets (class 205, 207 etc), to indicate to station staff which end of an arriving train the guard and luggage area was located, in the days when railways carried luggage and parcels. As the Hastings sets like these had a power car with luggage van at both ends, the triangle wasn't necessary. HTH!
@Northerner_Transport_Hub It's a hash job stock just to get a train running. It's got a Cep and Bep coaches in as well. It's not even close to a proper unit but hey it works.
Instead of Single-line Working on the original Hastings Tunnels by reducing the 6ft way - with one train at a time through the tunnels - secured by catch-points on each held track, a head on crash by two trains running into each other, this accident would have been avoided.
The whole set should be painted, it looks great 😊
@@EM-yk1dw it definitely does look great 🙂
I wonder if there will ever be enough stock in serviceable condition for two full sets to be made up, one Green one Blue and grey.
@@brianfretwell3886 Agreed it would be great 😁

I just love it! Also makes me think about my childhood. That growling sound. It’s just a beautiful train.
This brings fond memories from Wadhurst to High Broomes, they were the best . thank you
What a majestic sight, for such a once common train. ❤️👌👌
Fantastic video I must admit I do like the blue and grey 👍🏻👍🏻

Great video. Caught the sound of those EE diesel engines well.
The plot got very interesting with 4 power cars. I like it.

Used to catch one of those regularly from Charing X to Orpington
A thing of beauty..
Get it all in BR blue and grey…. Looks stunning.
That's a very large tadpole!
Excellent video, likes from me !
Wonderful best Wishes ❤❤
Cracking video!
@@RailPhotoAnthology Thank you!
Nice video ❤❤ train ❤❤🎉🎉
Mixed loading guage stock.
The flat sides remind me of The New York Subway cars compared to the modern Met Line Trains of The London Underground
Well that's nice to see, though the whole set really needs to be done. Also perhaps to give the power cars their correct set numbers
Thats interesting! Why is it with the Thumper? 😮
@@SSccaanniiaa The BR blue one was overhauled and painted. It was S60000 motorcoach and was out for the first time since 2005
Keep it all green

Ooh!
just great, looks good, but why have the clowns at hornby not made a set i wonder ?
I have always liked the "burble" sound of the "Thumpers". Prefer the green, though.
a mish mash of bog car love !!!
Do wish they would get rid of that BEP buffet car, gives the unit an unsightly gait halfway down the train :(
Why hasn't it got the black triangle on the front?

Whys there 3 motor cars in 1 set? I'm so confused by these Thumper sets

There was 4 on one of the clips. 3 on one end. If your going to thump, go full thump.🤣
What a super Thumper engine sound!💖
Are those the ones we know as "Thumpers?" The one with the yellow door on the front looks very ugly

Wait, if I’ve seen it correctly, was there 2 MK1 carriages in the consist?
Nope, all mk1s though two aren't flat sided 'Hastings' vehicles.
@ ohhh
Yes, one's an ex 4 BIG buffet car, and one's an ex 4 CEP trailer second
I've always though how odd it looks to have the non hastings coaches in the mix. I'd still be interested in taking a journey.
Looks really wierd with incorrect coaches in the set.
why was it testing
Getting mainline Certification
@Thetransport2-2024 Getting mainline certification and testing for the tour on the 18th
Really prefer EPB's.
Classic SR Green should be the colour Not BR Blue
