    to pay below!" My dad was an original 11th AB Div trooper
    who fought on Leyte and Luzon in WWII. WIA on Luzon.

      Mine also. But was injured in retaking Corregidor Island (in Manila Bay) when a giant explosion ripped off the top of a mountain. It was called Battle of Monkey's Point...Feb '45, I think.

    My Grandfather was an *11th Airborne Angel* _(127th Combat Engineers)_ glad to see this Division being recommissioned as an Arctic Division. (it also makes me suspect that war is on the horizon.) 🇺🇸
    I’d love to have some of that surplus arctic weather gear!!

    Whoa. Didn't know they'd already reconfigured our Alaskan forces into the reconstituted 11th Airborne. This must be a part of the Army's new concept of reshaping itself to fit conditions specific to each region it operates in, rather than trying to have one, uniform structure everywhere. And, when the video points out that the 11th got rid of its Strykers and replaced them with specialized Arctic operational vehicles, that just confirmed it for me. Wonder what's going to happen in other parts of the world?

    • @1thomson

      Also, I kept looking for 11th Airborne troops. All I saw were Imperial Storm Troopers. Is Emperor Palpatine in orbit above us right now?

    • @RustBrand777

      We’ve currently got the 25th infantry “Tropic Lightning” that’s devoted to operations in the Pacific like jungles and such while 10th Mountain is doing some Arctic stuff mixed with urban combat. Pretty neat. We still need a urban focused training center(a more official one) where we need to be doing courses in Tunnel Rat and various other courses related to urban warfare as most people are concentrated in cities now.

    Why NOT call their base the North Pole though? The marines have branded themselves to Christmas so well. The Toy's for Tots, and they are always next to Santa in parades and lots of events. It just makes sense the guys who see the Northern Lights, and they patrol that area, it just sort of fits.

    There are only 2 active airborne divisions. And we have to strain to maintain those! So, if the 11th is a "division" it must be in reserves. Or the film maker simply mis-spoke. And just for the record, throughout the cold war, the Chinese people's army maintained 74 airborne divisions! And the Soviets maintained 40!

    • @chrisanderson265
      @chrisanderson265 Год назад +1

      Yes, quite a few years ago. when I was stationed in Alaska it was the 172 light infantry brigade. With the 4th and 5th battalion of the 327 infantry at ft Richardson and the 6th battalion in ft Wainwrite(sp). The Charlie company for each battalion were airborne-that was 1983-85. I loved my time in Alaska. Have a lot of fond memories of Malamute DZ and kicking around the countryside of Anchorage and Alaska in general.

      I just said it was first over there because I know the move to Germany because I was in n the 172 infantry in Schweinfurt ledward barracks.
      And a civilian mechanic told me that unit is from Alaska I he was part of the in the 80s.
      Good times I past there .
      But thanks for the info.

    • @cameronkedas3375
      @cameronkedas3375 11 месяцев назад

      The 503d PIB was activated a few months before the 501st. The 503d then evolved into the 504th PIB, and then 2-503d PIR, then the 2-509th PIR, then the 509th PIB, and now back to the 509th PIR. So you are incorrect, the 501st was not the first parachute unit.
