One of my favorite things about the FC2 AI is that enemies are generally just terrified of you. They hide, they yell for help, they enter nervous breakdowns when they lose sight of you, with other soldiers trying to tell them to get a grip. It's really immersive sometimes. And it makes you feel like a force to be reckoned with, especially when you start manning an assault and one man yells "Shit, how many are there?" And another yells "It's just one guy!"
same in FC3 which i last played today. the enemy pirates are yelling and shouting insults if they cant find you and in general have a rough voice with one another. that really immerses me on the setting of these pirates who dont have respect for anyone
At the beginning of the game the enemies don't seem scared of you at all it's only when you progress through the game and advance reputation levels that will make the enemies start to fear you and carry better weapons to take you down always loved that detail

None of the gun sounds are realistic in this case. However the Far Cry 5 one is more cinematic. The entire gun sound is edited with a bass and tail sound added.. Or in other words, completely artificial and unrealistic.
Well, what did you both expected? Fist off all, the weapons' sound volume is obviously lowered so that is equal with the other sound effects in the game. Second off all, it isn't meant to be realistic and the weapon sounds are pretty damn good
No, you can just record gunfire. But you don't find any games where gunfire is recorded and completely unaltered. You do however see some games where they have recorded gunfire in which they then edit the sound. They can easily put regular gun sounds in the game, the thing is that they rather want it sounding dramatic. Same thing goes for punching sounds in games and movies. That it's just not what punches sound like.
Well some game studios actually explained why they do not use raw recorded gun sounds. They sound bland. Thats also the case with movies. Guns in real life sound very flat, most guns sound the same with most of the differences being the loudness. Other than that, gun sounds differ the most depending on the surroundings they are shot in. Imo the best job at gun sounds has to go to Battlefield series. Ever since Battlefied 3, weapons and explosions' echo differ depending on the surroundings. For example, if you fire a weapon in a forest, the echo is very long and deep. However if you shoot a weapon on an open field with a mountain nearby, you won't hear the echo until the sound bounces off the mountain and goes back to you. Same with firing on an open field with a building nearby, you will hear only the echo of the sound bouncing off the building as a sharp and short echo.
Are you sure? Because last time i checked, even on the driest seasons, there's still rainfall. And it never even gets cloudy in Montana? Unless you're talking about a Montana from another planet..
I'm not some delusional fanboy, but FC2 is my favorite installment in the series. It was such a leap forward for an open world shooter and, visually speaking, rivaled even Crysis--Being that the "Dunia" engine was just a modified ver. of the original Cry-Engine, it was an exceptionally impressive feat that probably had Cry-Tek second guessing themselves after selling ALL RIGHTS to Ubisoft when moving on to Cry-E 2. I will forever hold this up as an interactive 3D digital arts masterpiece--flaws and all. FC2 made me feel something that I haven't felt since and probably won't until real-time 3D is interactive at a molecular level w/ no limitations with what you can do in a world so vast that EVERY player's experience is 99% unique. Ya dig?
I like how it actually ran well on hardware of the time, compared to Crysis which ran like a 2 legged dog on just about everything. And even if the effects and textures weren't up to the same level as Crysis, Far Cry 2 was an actual open-world game.
@@jco_sfm Well the people that are actually making the game can have a passion for it such as designers developers etc. but for the companies higherups thats true

The flames from the flame thrower in 2 seem more realistic as it has the smooth physics of fire. while 5 has bright and too movie like flames. The guns have way more power in 2 and they feel like they're doing damage. While 5 has small pews and the guns seem like nerf guns. And then the physics look better in 2 like previously mentioned fire slowly burning leaves away and also the guns jamming now it was annoying but it showed realism. While 5 hardly shows good physics that hold up to 2. Like the trees animations were horrible when on fire now the fire does look better and may have more realistic movement but the leaves staying on the trees even after being burnt was just disgusting.
At first I didn't like that (having malaria) but it grew on me and I learned to cope with it... ingame that is. Though there is a mods for FC2 called EChondo's Tweaks which removes malaria from the game. Though it sadly it doesn't work with the steam or GOG version of the game.
I think the malaria attacks occurs to often, making it feel like a task to cope with, instead of another way to immerse the player. But I guess that was the point if it, the fact that it could happen anytime so you never feel really safe.
I wanna say I remembered hearing/learning that if you sat on the malaria medication/tried to take it last minute instead of as soon as you felt the first symptoms it was "bad for you" and actually made the pills go more quickly but that may just be some kind of fever dream I once had...
Gregory McGrath I actually bought the season pass for far cry 5 so I’m set, in 20 days far cry 3 will be released on current gen *For those who have season pass* which means we get it a month early. I think there will be only a slight difference once it’s released on current gen, for example resolution, shading etc.
The fact that it's not coming to the PC suggests you're probably right. More stable framerate and resolution, I doubt they even mess with the shader quality.
I know this is an old comment and I don’t know if you’ve played it yet but I’ve played a little bit on Xbox one and first impressions is that the sound quality if awful.
Mostly it is just about a graphic things comparisons. Graphic is good but that is not the soul, the soul of the game is experiencing artificial activities, obstacles of the real life in the game. Farcry 2 brought my emotional feeling to the highest peak of adventure. The sound of african song makes the nuances is more mystical and makes me feel like bloody fragile fighter. The story line, the deep sensations.
If you haven't lived in Africa then you won't have the emotional attachment. Farcry2 is the best and has a spot in my heart that will never be replaced. The sound of the monkeys, the language and accents of the enemies provides a greater level of emersion for someone that has lived in Africa and creates a home away from home. Even the graphics without the sweetfx mod is better because of how it really is in Africa. When the sun is that bright everything looks like that. Excellent game. The best farcry by far. I will still say that I enjoyed farcry5 with its many advancements.
The one thing I never understand is why the sounds of weapons such as the 1911 change so drastically between Far Cry 2, 3, 4, and 5. If it's the same gun, shouldn't it have relatively the same sound?
SCP Gaming Well sound effects are always changing in video games. The sound of the guns in the previous Far Cry games were more cartoony and cool sounding while the gun sounds in Far Cry 5 has the most realistic gun sounds, very close to guns in real life
this is an old problem in almost every fucking FPS : To "look cool" when reloading/firing weapon, games always show left-handed weapon used by right-handed people, like that you can see the lever etc.. It's really annoying for me, and ugely unrealistic. FC5 does it better and I'm happy to see that :) @@N0biwanKenob1
@War Zone sure it can have an ambi safety but afaik having the ejection port on the left would make it lefty by design. Especially in the usual Weaver stance you don't want brass ejecting into your face
Great video! Although I prefer FC2's original colour over the SweetFX mod. Personal preference. FC2 was badly underrated. People wanted massive open-world environment, which FC2 delivered. Then people whinged that it was too difficult to get around. There were cars, buses, boats and of course going on foot. They also whinged that it took ages to load between regions. It had fantastic fire effects, great weapons and weapon fatigue, a great storyline and great playability. I'm a big fan of all of the FC games. I love FC5 as much as I loved all the others. FC1 is probably still my favourite. Just about to try New Dawn.
annoying thing about FC2 was enemies respawning, no way to take comntrol of outposts etc. they tried to make the game realistic yet this one aspect failed completely and was enough foe me personally not to play this game ever agian, although I have to admit graphics were really good and the unique feeling of being in Africa is unparralleled.
Finally, even tho yeah maybe some things were better in FC2,FC5 is still an awesome experience that I feel like older fans don't really want to admit because of the nostalgia, and they always praise Far Cry 2 and 3 and again I can see why but they always get hatin on FC5,but maybe that's just how I see it
Yeah. Stuff like malaria management is too meta for FarCry. The original sought to be the closest a game could get to a Rambo simulator. With 2 they decided to theme it as a manhunt, and wanted to give the game a pacing of an expedition or safari to match the fused jungle/desert setting. I think this is why they emphasized hi-octane for 3 onward. Just feels right.
"I'm going to directly compare these two games, i I dont like the looks of this one so I modded it" Doesnt that kinda defeat some of the purpose in "Direct comparison"
absolutely. Take the colors in FC3 as an example, all very intense and bright - as a stylistic choice. it is done for a reason and rather than thinking 'they didn't know we wanted everything to look surreal' you could think a little deeper
@@derpizzaman1050 he still does make graphical comparisons for the majority of the video and yes i agree that the gameplay aspects still stand but at the same time it still isnt a direct comparison if you are modding the game.
I don’t really like far cry 5’s mechanics personally, they are kind of wonky I guess, but it’s up to preference whether you like FC5’s gameplay or 2’s better. One thing is sure though, far cry 2 was definitely a lot more innovative.
Farcry 2 was very impressive for its time, the fire and destruction of things like branches was really unique and well done. The guns sound great and vastly louder than the other game sounds so it was always really immersive to crank that sound up. Also the mortar was awesome in Fc2, there was only a series of notches to adjust your aim distance, no fancy overhead point and click. I remember making a chart to gauge the distance from my spot on the ingame map and my target. I ended up doing an assassination mission from wayyyy far without even seeing the target using my distance chart and map. Good times, I love the whole series
@Finn Peckston I think they did that because they wanted it to look cool, to see the bullets fly past the camera, instead of to the right, off of the camera, but it could be copyright too.
You're likely talking about that bolt-action; it's a European thing, it's supposed to keep the rigger-hand in place... I think the designers of the rifle assumed that there'd be more supported fire, so using the off-hand to cycle the action wouldn't involve much re-aiming.
this is an old problem in almost every fucking FPS : To "look cool" when reloading/firing weapon, games always show left-handed weapon used by right-handed people, like that you can see the lever etc.. It's really annoying for me, and ugely unrealistic. FC5 does it better and I'm happy to see that :)
@@TROOPERfarcry Europeans invented the bolt action, and no bolt action was ever charged using the off-hand. You have no idea what you're on about. The left hand charge is only something done using modern rifles as you weren't working the bolt half the time.
Far cry 2 was okay, innovative, but the spreading fire and jamming weapons couldn't compensate for the fact that every check point respawns the most annoying enemies and you're given malaria right off the bat
God how big of a crybaby do you have to be to complain about a checkpoint respawning after you drive 60 feet away? It's not like the automatically detect you. Also, other games give you disease right off the bat. Dying Light has you bitten within the first few minutes. At least Far Cry 2 had the balls to try and make a gameplay mechanic out of it.
I agree. I love Far Cry 2, but it has it's problems. Like he said, the checkpoints are one of the big ones. I don't think an outpost should be completely abandoned for the rest of the game after you clear it, but having all the enemies spawn back in after walking a short distance away is both unrealistic and annoying. And the enemy aggression is also pretty annoying. Is it practical for a small group of enemies to chase you to the ends of the Earth for something as simple as driving through a checkpoint? No. No it's not. And the bullet sponge enemies are a nuisance. I shouldn't have to fill a shirtless guy full of 5-10 rounds from an LMG to kill him... It's not a perfect game, you snobs. Get over it.

A lot of people disliked the malaria feature of FC2 but I thought it was a neat challenge that you are forced to keep up with, much like hunger or thirst in a survival game. The gun quality feature was also something I enjoyed because it was another immersive challenge that you had to keep up with in order to survive.
A good, balanced comparison. Certainly Far Cry 2 had some impressive features for the time, some of which don't appear in Far Cry 5, but a lot of people seem to have made a big deal over them after certain other comparisons focused on them solely.
@@Griv3836, same. Also, the MP5 reload animation in 5 has more impact because instead of pulling the bolt like any normal old gun, your character in 5 does the recommended and cool HK Slap...
Far Cry 2 is far very underrated game. The Storyline was really awesome. Those who didnct like the story is because there was no cut scenese in the game. The malaria and gun jams were the only yhings that I hate.Otherwise it had one of the best gameplays and an impressive story with an impressive villain like Jackal. The Ending of Far Cry 2 Story is like a mind fuck movie. You just don't realise how Jackal uses you and makes you kill other people, makes you work for UFLl and APR - Some things that the Jackal does.In the end its you who dies It would be great if Ubisoft makes a remaster of Far Cry 2 with a better and bigger Africa, more animals like Elephants and lions, more good side missions, more local people, tribes wondering and cinematic cut scenes whenever you talk with ur buddies or the enemies. No hate for other FC games.I loved Far Cry 3 ,4 and 5 too but Far Cry 2 on those days was a big deal and that's why if Ubisoft remasters it just the way I said,it will be damn good.
The only foliage that moves in far cry 5 is the yellow alpine flowers, I wish Ubi would just patch a few environmental reactions to the player to make it feel more authentic.
And the first game was made by CRYTEK with the CRYENGINE, that's why it was called Far Cry in the first place. Ubisoft took it over/bought it made some changes and called it Dunia.

Speaking of AI design, in Far Cry 2 when the player where about to hit the enemy with mounted vehicles, AI will react by doing the dodging animation to ovoid the mounted vehicles, from the left hand Far Cry 5 AI's did also reacted and dodge the mounted vehicles but with no animations, the AI just simply move away without the dodging animations.
far cry 2 had the best immersive map. You hold it out in your hand. And instead of hit markers how blood used to show when you shot enemies. Loved those in farcry 2
@@killermoon635 they should remake it but with stronger story line and no respawning outposts. Alter all i really enjoyed the unique african atmosphere and a good doze of realism
Fc2 weapon firing sounds a lot nicer and more intense. They're loud and make it sound like you're actually shelling someone in the face, or shooting someone in general. Fc5 gun shots just arent at that level of intensity.
All Far Cry 5 needed to have was dynamic weather, I would stay in that world forever. Imagine a thunderstorm and animals running away, finding shelter. Slippery roads, a stealth outpost takedown during a thunderstorm, the game would be so much better.
That would be cool. Imagine the rain interfering with sounds making it more difficult for the cultists to hear you, but also making it difficult for you to hear them or animals. Maybe civilians run in the rain until they can find a building and then they stay there for the remainder of the storm until it disappears. Breath of the Wild did something similar to that degree, where NPC's could be found desperately trying to escape the rain until they can find one of those wooden shelters and they stay in those until the storm ends...
well you almost had to use some goggles for this game because 10 mins in i remember it starting to hurt my eyes because of the weird colouring and brightnes/lighting good game for its time tho on the part of design and playability
The ejection ports on every gun is mirrored for some wild reason. Every gun with a charging handle or bolt except for the two H&K guns, which have their charging handles on the left anyway, have them mirrored too. This weird feature is most prominent with the M1903 sniper with the weird ass left hand bolt cycling.
I know this is a late comment, but really nothing has gotten that great in 10 years. The only thing that's better is textures. When a game already looks really good, it's hard to top it
One thing I am never gonna forget it about FC2 is that it came out before it's time. I can't believe when I remember it came before 2010, it is just amazing.
I can't stand the sound in FC3 to 5: it echoes too much and makes it like you are sitting in an empty drum with somebody shooting guns or driving a car outside. It is frustrating because in FC2 I was always able to tell the enemy vehicle heading and distance. Overall, sound is much more important and satisfying aspect of the game in FC2, making your immersion a lot better.
this seems like comparing apples to oranges, there have been much fewer advances in the last 10 years compared to 1993-2008 which is actually a lot more than 10 year gap anyway. Also the reason a lot of the mechanical details of fc2 were done away with in future installments because they didn't add to the "fun" for most people playing the game

As for the fifth installment of farcry series the file name is still the same but now the arbitary code has a paragraph which just lowers the volume of the weapon while increasing its intesity.

Far Cry 1 - Really awesome. Very entertaining. I remember back then almost every shooter was limited to closed corridors and small open areas. Far Cry 1 changed that. It was interesting, the pacing was nice, the campaign was challenging. Graphically it was great, too, back then of course. Far Cry 2 - the idea of Far Cry 2 was groundbreaking. The game play however, was boring and just dull. Even the tone of the graphics reeked of boredom. It was all brown, all over itself, everywhere. Plus, the antagonist had malaria, wtf. Far Cry 3 - something you'd call 'fresh'. Far Cry 3 was like smelling a citric cologne after musky colognes. It was sort of perfect. Cool blue sky, powerful characters, fast paced, beautiful and innovative in terms of how it captured the essence of an open world game. Far Cry 4 - a repainted Far Cry 3. I personally liked it. I've seen people complain that it was too much like Far Cry 3. I don't get it, it's a Far Cry, it's supposed to be like a Far Cry. I get that it was mechanically the same as Far Cry 3 but I think that the style of Far Cry 3 was great enough to make two games out of it. The locations were nice, game play was nice. I liked it. Far Cry 5 - it's, for me, the worst Far Cry they ever made. It. Was. So. DAMN. BORING. Like, literally it was pathetic. The characters weren't intriguing enough. Every new area felt like the old one and everything was repetitive, enough that you end up regretting for spending your money on it. The story was bland, too. That's what I personally feel about all the Far Cry games and your opinions might be different than mine.
Fire effects were best in FC2 and i remember being disappointed how they watered that down on FC3, 4 and 5. I used love to set big fires on FC2 and it was big game element back then. You could surround enemies with fire and watch them die :D After FC2 the fires just do not spread well and generally are pretty harmless to anything. I really hope that Ubisoft does focus more on realistic fire that has real effect on gameworld. It would be super cool that fire destruction was long term, when i burn down forest it stays burned for a long time (maybe entire game?). And of course the trees and foliage should burn away too, not just turn black for a second.
I agree with everything you've just said asides from bullets penetrating through objects. In FC5 you can Mark enemies and see their position through the obstacles, if you could shoot them at these conditions there would be no point to stick out from cover, on he other hand in FC2 you can't tell the position of enemies so trying to shoot them behind the wall makes a sense.
Agreed. A lot of them have the capability to match the environment. Older Far Cry games had the guns sound legendarily loud. This is very cool, but unless you're on very close quarters, it ain't happening. Far Cry 5 fixes this issue, making it to where the guns sound kinda nerfed outside, but they still deliver an echo effect that older games seemed to lack. Close quarters also has slightly higher volume gun sounds because close quarters traps the sound...
Idk grenades are sort of meant to look like that. They don’t create massive fireballs like I think you were expecting. They mostly just kick up dust n grass or whatever.

Ya dig?
Oh, and BOOO! to that SweetFX mod. Really makes no sense given the art direction for the game.
I like how it actually ran well on hardware of the time, compared to Crysis which ran like a 2 legged dog on just about everything.
And even if the effects and textures weren't up to the same level as Crysis, Far Cry 2 was an actual open-world game.
No.

Soulja yes some people care but they still do it to make money not trying to say all of them are greedy but without the money most of them would not work as hard
I think FC2 is one of the best, if not THE best of the series. I liked the realism and the malaria.
Matthew Hopkins fc3 the best

Drachen panzer I agree, it could be better.
The one thing I never understand is why the sounds of weapons such as the 1911 change so drastically between Far Cry 2, 3, 4, and 5. If it's the same gun, shouldn't it have relatively the same sound?
SCP Gaming Well sound effects are always changing in video games. The sound of the guns in the previous Far Cry games were more cartoony and cool sounding while the gun sounds in Far Cry 5 has the most realistic gun sounds, very close to guns in real life
Virtually Hidden those gun sounds are so unrealistic in fc5. It's a muffled generic sound and I promise you fc2 was closer
interestingly enough, the FC2 guns are left handed guns used by a right handed character. FC5 models are right handed weapons with right handed user.
this is an old problem in almost every fucking FPS : To "look cool" when reloading/firing weapon, games always show left-handed weapon used by right-handed people, like that you can see the lever etc..
I like the artstyle of the 2nd game. I play it on ps3 and its colorful on my hd crt. Was also colorful on the lcd.
annoying thing about FC2 was enemies respawning, no way to take comntrol of outposts etc. they tried to make the game realistic yet this one aspect failed completely and was enough foe me personally not to play this game ever agian, although I have to admit graphics were really good and the unique feeling of being in Africa is unparralleled.

Yeah
Farcry 2 was very impressive for its time, the fire and destruction of things like branches was really unique and well done. The guns sound great and vastly louder than the other game sounds so it was always really immersive to crank that sound up. Also the mortar was awesome in Fc2, there was only a series of notches to adjust your aim distance, no fancy overhead point and click. I remember making a chart to gauge the distance from my spot on the ingame map and my target. I ended up doing an assassination mission from wayyyy far without even seeing the target using my distance chart and map. Good times, I love the whole series
I've never noticed before, but the guns from FC2 seem to be for left-handed people, even if the character is right-handed.
yeah I noticed LOL makes the game even more unique
Yeah what in the world? People upset at games losing fun features rather than gaining them? How dare they.
Also the bullet sponge enemies
heeey Devon just another casual gamer comments.

A good, balanced comparison. Certainly Far Cry 2 had some impressive features for the time, some of which don't appear in Far Cry 5, but a lot of people seem to have made a big deal over them after certain other comparisons focused on them solely.

Maybe civilians run in the rain until they can find a building and then they stay there for the remainder of the storm until it disappears. i also liked the flamethrower better i wouldn't constantly set myself on fire in farcry 2 but in the sequels advancing with a flamethrower has the fire just hit you making me feel like a dumbass every time i used it
it really doesn't lol, I bet you haven't played the games.
How?? Then buy FC2 it will be better for ya
The storyline of the FC3 is amazing , and now with these remastered graphics , i think i will replay it .
i stoped playing after 3,,This isnt the case just for this franchise there are other titles aswell. And to this day i fell like Call of duty 2 is the best war game ever. And NFSU2 best car game due to engine sounds
yeah, COD2 had the best multiplayer too. Still played it about 2 years ago
WAW BABY
Far Cry 5: Looks realistic.
Far Cry 2: Is realistic.
Wtf is wrong with Farcry 2 bolt action rifle😂
Immigrato clandestino It looks like all the weapons are left handed.
Yeah..But No One Can Beat Far Cry 5's Music Like Come On.. Those Tracks On Radio, Background Music Everything Is Just Beautiful.. Check Out We Will Rise Again. It's My All Time Favorite Track..
the fact that these 2 games can be compared just shows that games are for the developers and not the players anymore
I love the fc5 gun sounds
I prefer fc2 but you do you
@@centurion756 actually I've played far cry 2 like 2 months ago for the first time and I'm gonna change my mind about the gun sounds
Idk grenades are sort of meant to look like that. They don’t create massive fireballs like I think you were expecting. They mostly just kick up dust n grass or whatever.
4:43 bloom effect is also available in Far Cry 2, but it has to be enabled in the console using this command: gfx_bloom 1
FC2 now has a REDUX mod that makes a lot of changes to the gameplay as well as graphics
i like farcry 2 sounds better
also just subbed. great channel
That's a really well made video !!!
What ?? These graphics in 2008 ?? I can't believe this 🤦🏼♀️ . Ubisoft is such a good company.
Their engine for far cry is good but in fact, Ubisoft is arguably the most uncreative company In the earth
Was*
@@gooddoggo3547 Atleast Ubi listen to their fans. Fans wanted the AC franchise to change direction, so Ubi did it. EA is just a money hungry corporation that doesn't give a flying fuck about its consumers, and shamelessly locks a significant amount of content behind overpriced paywalls.
Look at cod waw max settings and you'll shit breaks (in a good way)
Was a good company
I love far cry 5 because there is best villain, good soundtrack and because Hope county is so beautiful.
6:40 its a spruce.
Spruce have NEEDLES.
I honestly don't know very much about the types of trees in Far Cry 5, although I did see a few pines and oaks at times...
Its like comparing Father and Son
FC2 = father
FC5 = son
