Why modify an already perfect board? Well….

  • The original CI Mid stormed onto the scene with its trusty 2-plus-1 fin setup. Though designed for single-fin performance, the side fins’ placement left much to be desired for a twin configuration. So, Channel Islands collaborated once again with Southern Californian surfer and champion of all things style and glide Devon Howard . Through rigorous experimentation, tweaking fin placements, tail rocker, and dimensions, Devon concluded: “A really great board just got even better.”
Who’s it for? - Anyone looking for a responsive, dynamic mid-length board that allow the rider to carve smooth, classic lines with effortless trim speeds, while still delivering high performance. Riders can also achieve remarkably high speeds, seamlessly transitioning into quick, powerful bottom turns or redirects on the open face.
What conditions? - Anything from knee to double overhead waves. It’ll light up those average days, boosting your wave count when it’s crowded but it still offers heaps of fun on the bigger days when the waves have some size.
How to size it - When selecting the appropriate size for any of their Mid designs, Channel Islands recommends adding about 10” to the rider’s height for good to very good surfers, 12” for average to good surfers, and 14-16” for beginner to average ability.
What fins? - Pair with the Futures CI Keel fins for a traditional drawn feel or a more upright fin such as the CI Britt Merrick Twin Fin or Futures Akila for a bit more attack!
The Mid Twin retains the minimalist logo of the original Mid, reminiscent of the logo Al used on his boards in the early ‘70s.

Is it ok in smaller beach break? - and sizing wise?

Still great in the smaller average surf and will certainly handle decent swell too! When sizing any of the CI Mid designs, we recommend about 10” above your height for good to very good surfers; 12” for average to good; and 14-16” for beginner to average ability.
Recommended fins are either the AMK or BMT. Go the AMK if you like fuller, rounder, drivey turns-or if have a medium to larger body type. BMT may better suit those that are of a lighter frame or like a looser, tighter arc feels underfoot.

Sometimes that’s not bad, cause then you don’t have to put your back foot as far back.
