    Whoever installed those pickups did a fantastic job . By far the best active pickups I've ever heard .

    I first was made aware of the Sims was a demo of the Rudy Sarzo sig Spector bass. They seem awesome, for sure!

    Sounds great! What woods are the body, neck, and fretboard on this bass?

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  6 лет назад

      Neck is maple, body is alder and the fretboard is rosewood....Thanks for watching!

    Great demo! You mentioned that the bass has a passive mode. When you put it in passive, which controls still work? Volume, blend, and most importantly, is there any tone control in the passive mode? Thanks!

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  6 лет назад +1

      Volume and blend pretty much. Tone control is passive

    • @royhoward119
      @royhoward119 6 лет назад

      Thanks for taking time to write back! I'm really sorry, I'm not sure I understand "tone control is passive", does that mean that in passive one tone knob is a passive tone control (which would be ideal to me), or that there isn't any working tone knob?
      And while I'm bugging you.... (thanks again, very much, I'm seriously considering one of these).... How would you compare this beast to a Lakland?? Playability and quality wise?

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  6 лет назад +1

      the tone knob is usable when in passive mode. For comparison, it is a matter of preference. It is all about how the neck feels in your hands....

    I’ve been playing bass since 1981.
    And I’ve had many different basses in these years. Do you think with your years of experience and what you’ve played and heard. That if you take pick ups in a say a Enfield Bass that was made for SimS pick ups.
    That it will sound as good as if you were to put those pick ups in a Fender Jazz like yours or mine.
    American of course.

    Good demo. Having the pickups placed right next to each other makes it more of a one trick pony, unless that is the preferred sound? If the neck pickup was moved closer to the fingerboard then a wider range of deeper bass tones could have been introduced. Would have been interesting to hear these pickups on a bass that had a wider pickup spacing is what I am getting at.

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  6 лет назад

      This was an experiment to see if the pickup placement as if it was a real fender would sound any different....Thanks for your input.

    • @squiresuzuki
      @squiresuzuki 5 лет назад +1

      The spacing here is not really any different than an ordinary PJ bass. If the neck pickup were farther from the bridge it would be harder to get an authentic P tone (just like it's difficult to get P tone with a jazz bass)

    After watching this video, I went out and bought a fender p-bass. Ordered set of SIMS. Will have it together soon. but.. My question is: while watching your live videos, why is this bass not used as a primary gigging bass? Or why not put these pickups on your primary gig bass?

    • @bassjaymi
      @bassjaymi  5 лет назад

      Thanks for watching! I love the pickups, the bass did not really measure up to what these pickups can do. I am actually looking for something else to add these pickups to for a major tone enhance!
