Man your not boring us , your doing great ....it does have that 80s sound , the opening riff gave me a Van Halen feel . These type of songs is where Marko will be very missed .....as long as they dont lose Floor theyll be fine .
I always throw this out there for reactions to this song. The opening riff is an homage to 80s power metal and Eddie van Halen in particular. Genius recognizing genius.
I love Queen and Pink Floyd but Nightwish is the best I've heard in 60 years. There are do many great songs, but devil and the deep dark ocean stands out for me.
We agree with you - that's why so many of us are excited to share the journey over and over with reactors. We need to grow the army 💜 everyone should know this band.
I think you're ready for 'The Greatest Show on Earth'. Tampere has the feels, but it's also worth doing Wembley. They're different experiences. You get to experience the greatest groove on earth twice over!
Never boring to see someone liking it. This is the reason why we watch these reactions. To get a glimpse of the feeling we had when first time listening those songs.
Ryan just keep it coming, your reactions are different and your objectivity of the band and their music it's unique 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 We are a Family... a Metal Family! Thanks Nightwish to bringing all Us Together.
I love it man, when I see you discovering these songs, takes us back to when, yep, I felt the same way the first time I heard this song. Nice reaction.

Lovely reaction as always, Ryan! I've finally had a chance to check out your album (the cover art is really nice btw!) and I was pleasantly surprised! Really loved your playing style, and you have a very nice voice as well. The style isn't my usual cup of tea, but it was definitely a lovely listen, you've done a wonderful job of it :D
Great reactions, I really enjoy them. Like you mentioned that their songs never sound dated. I believe that Toumas mentioned that in a Finnish interview. He said something like that one should never start following trends when it comes to writing music, just keep writing stuff that you like and enjoy writing. He even said something like never to make an album with that cliché about this album being our real and true sound, cause that always is a sign of a shitty album (those are some real words of wisdom) 😁
If you want to hear Nightwish at their heaviest, check out Master Passion Greed (with lyrics). It’s a song Tuomas wrote in anger toward’s former singer Tarja’s husband/manager. It’s never been performed live and never will be.
Great reaction yet again, many thanks Ryan! Delighted to hear that you watched the Nightwish documentary "Please Learn the Set List in 48 Hours". If you like watching documentaries, I recommend that you watch "Making of Endless Forms Most Beautiful" next. It shows how the unique, magical Nightwish experience is created by the whole crew from composing the songs to performing them in live shows. It is a huge effort and makes one appreciate their work even more!
Tuomas has explained that this song is a battle between Mother Gaia and the Devil, representing the eternal battle between good and evil, both external and internal. It's an exhortation not to give up or give in. However: There's an intriguing element to the song when Floor growls "scream" which is not a very motherly thing to do for our dear Gaia. She also starts the song off with some distortion. Is Floor playing the evil one? Is Marko warning the children away from the river? Floor sometimes gives songs her own twist, which make me wonder about this one.
@@frankmerris8821 In the album version Anette sings it in a straightforward way, definitely following the script of the first interpretation. There's no sense of menace in her voice. Floor on the other hand is really playing with the role, alternating between being alluring, then almost threatening. Some of her stage moves seem predatory - the stalking of the mic for example, followed by an angelic tone to lure us in. She adds a certain level of creepiness to the performance. At one point when she sings "do come across" she ads a shrillness to it.
Ryan, caught you cracking a smile at 8:08 at Emppu's ridic...er...wildly *innovative* sideways froggy jumping. He should trademark that move alongside the inhumanly super-low power stances he pulls when he really wants to show off the residual athleticism from his judo years.
Change in the band .... yes !? I miss Marco too - very much , but ....remember that - they are true PROFESIONALS and great musicians .... all of them ! Nightwish is the greatest band on this Planet - for all generations of music LOVERS !! :-)))
Another great reaction Ryan, I very much like your reserved and thoughtful delivery, perhaps because I'm a (old fart) Brit and we tend not to do over the top, in your face stuff. It's a very useful adjunct too that you are a musician also, you know exactly how many beans make five, the knowledge and experience shows. You have a ways to go yet and a heap more fun, interest and intrigue down the Nightwish rabbit hole, they are, shall we say, rather good. You're doing a grand job, keep at it, I scanned the comments and it seems the other respected people herein would be thinking the same. Excellent.
Just watched this video and read the comments and now I'm late for work😁. I also started listening to your music, sounds great and will continue listening!
Ah crap! Sorry lol.... thank you for listening! I know my music isn't anything like what I've been listening to, but so many of you have checked it out. What an incredible group of people🤘
Can you imagine floor calling Hannes at home to start cleaning the house? No joke I would be terrified by the voice. Hannes mentioned he try to play drums as hard as he can to overrule the valkyrie sirens. Sometimes this project fails and he slapped into all corners
I don't known how you true reactors do it man! The 1st couple songs from NW i heard, I had no choice but to buy the Wacken 2013 dvd, and watch it about a thousand times. I couldn't imagine hearing a band this talented, and "holding off" on listening to their entire catalog right away. Ive spent my life listening to bands like Floyd, clutch, pantera, sabbath, maiden, slayer, ect. If someone would have told me a yr ago, that id enjoy symphonic metal, id of laughed in their face. Not only do i "enjoy" NW, they have now become my favorite band of all time!
By no means am I saying NW can't continue without Marco. We long time listeners know that the band prevails, we've seen it several times before. I will miss these songs though, like this and Devil and the Deep Blue Ocean. Then again I didn't think they'd sing 7 Days To The Wolves again, and Floor did a pretty great job during the virtual concert. His absence is felt, but mostly I hope he's taking care of himself, and I hope they're all still getting to hang out, even virtually. Call me childish but I hope they're all still friends, you know?
my sentiments exactly. I can't see any animosity between them. They respect each other so much, I imagine they are more concerned for his health and well-being.
Last weekend they proved that they can do it without Marco. Floor did a wonderful job of taking over Marcos parts, which were too strong for Troy. What Floor did with "Planet Hell" without Marco was amazing. And that was a Marco song. Sure, some songs will not be played for at least a year. Then Marco comes back. And if not, we know that Jukka has a good voice too. That we won't hear this until the year is up has something to do with respect to Marco and the fans who miss him painfully. Not to mention the band themselves. And that is exactly the right decision. When the year is over and Marco doesn't return, Jukka's voice will come into play and songs that were previously removed from the setlist will be played again. Then we'll see how it sounds. I am an ardent supporter of Marco and I hope he comes back. I went to the concert with skepticism, but what they did, what Floor did, was sensational. With Troy as Marco's replacement, however, I had my problems and they didn't go away. His strengths lie elsewhere. In the backround and his songs ("Harvest" will be never mine). They still have to change a little. But the concert was great. Even without Marco. And I'm glad that Marco is taking care of himself. I prefer a retired Marco to another dead legend. Like so many others who didn't know when to end.
@@RyanMear "Devil and the deep DARK (not blue) ocean" You should look at It's like a little musical. Really, really good. "Planet Hell" you should also see the old version. The new one doesn't exist yet. Edit: I just remember. Jukka actually managed to partially imitate Marco's voice with his bass at the concert.
@@TomTomson81 i adore Marko, but i was over the moon when they announced Jukka for the remaining concerts. The respect from Jukka to Marko is really amazing imo. And lets see, ofc i want marko to return, if not, i hope Jukka will honestly join and sing, because im selfish lol. His voice is also great
Just for change but on the same theme try Ayreon with The Day The World Breaks Down. 11 of the best singers and an amazing composition. The composer Arjen has worked with Marco and Floor on various projects and he only uses the best !!
Yeah Marco will be missed and surely in combination with Floor, but...the show must go on and Tuomas has still so much inspiration to create compositions, with or without Marco...perhaps a new singer shows up.... Jukka?
Ryan, you are doing SOOOO GOOD, on your reactions. Nothing needs to be adjusted enymoore to give us and (obviosly) you a nice experience. You are doing it with perfection. I'm sooo happy for you that Nightwish gives you chills. And did I see it tearing up a tiny little bit after thoose tones were the music helld up and let Floor sing that amazing (short) solo. 😢 If soo, your are amongst a big group of us. Gives me chills every time (hundreds of times)! I love when you explain to us what your own knowledge is. Like that you've seen the two hour documetary. Who you would like to hang out with. What caracteristics you appriciate with Emppu. How deep in the rabbithole you are gone 😂 . Keep up the good work. Last of all..... do a deep resurge on TGSOE. It will give you such a rich experience if you do. Choose the Tampere version. You can even do it with the version with the wite lyrics. Why? Couse it has elements that the Wembley one doesn't have. And most importent of all: Let it run until the credits is over and the video automaticly stops. You will hear why. Much much much Love to you! 💙💛💙💛
Marko´s well being is No. 1. NW will go on. If you want to see more Marko´s talent listen to "Northern Kings", "Powerless Trio" and "Sinergy" for starters.
The song seems to be about facing your fears to get what you want, in this case using the example of crossing a dangerous evil river to get to the other side - "If you want me, do come across ."
48 hours is a very informative look at the band. Emppu is a riot. Always the lovable prankster. He loves it when Floor growls. Twice in this song. After the second growl he is smiling at Floor and she does a little dance/shrug for him. It takes about one second. First growl 4:26. Second @ 6:43 and 7:28(your pause/playback). 7:36 is when Floor is dancing for Emppu. Do I love this band? Meh........just a little bit.
I'm coming in late in the day here, but thanks for this reaction as it brought this song to me. Most reactions discuss Floor's technical singing, but Ryan you discuss the actual music structure etc. which is what I want to hear and relate to. Cheers from Northern Ireland.
The best thing about the NW is the sheer variety of styles they dip into. When listening to their song for the first time, you just don't know what to expect and they will always have a surprise up in their sleeve.💕 I second the notion of the Wintersun reactions. As mentioned Tarot with Marco, there is also Marco-Northern Kings, Delain..., Emppu-Brother Firetribe, Marco+Emppu-Altaria, Floor-After Forever, Northward, Revamp and other Beste Zangers songs/cover versions from her own channel, Troy+Tuomas-Auri... Ayreon is amazing.
I have heard that, the new bassist can sing. And pretty good to, It's going to take time and practice. I am sure Floor will work with him, we all know practice makes perfect.
Great reaction! Going to suggest Ayreon again- T he Day that the world breaks down, and Kamelot-The Haunting Favorite song off your cd so far is actually Betsy Becker- like the bar tender in the song it just hits home.
I haven't seen the full Wacken show, but I was always convinced Ghost River came right after I Want My Tears Back and Emppu's prank. In Ghost River he walks behind Floor with his hands up like, See, I'm not doing anything! And standing next to Tuomas shrugging his shoulders like, Hey, what can you say? I was so convinced of it, and it turns out these songs were nowhere near each other. Our minds make weird connections.
Just having my healthy breakfast, and listen to this, always fun and interesting not boring. Now is my time to start listen to your own music, and figure out what I think or feel about it.
”See Me As I Am” song is not different to me, because it sounded good, and this kind of music I also like. Time for music and different kind of music? Yes, always every day. Place in my heart? Not so easily...
I don't have to read the comments to know you've heard that every song at this Wacken 2013 show is amazing, and you can't go wrong doin all of em. I've been a musician since 1882 and this is the best concert performance I've ever seen. Plus, between the Tempere, Wembley, Buenos Aires, cruise ship show (and lots more), there's gobs of NW vids to check out. All of her Beste Zangers show performances are crazy good too and show just how insanely talented, versatile and f***ing unflappable she is.
got the 1000ths like, yay :D continue doing you, we're here in the backseat enjoying your journey anyway because it so much reminds us of when we were in your place.
If you'd seen an interview with Troy, you'd probably say you'd hang with him too. He's a funny guy. Tuomas seems to be more the silent type. Floor said they're all introverts. lol. And please keep reacting to Nightwish. I promise you it won't bore you and it won't bore us. We just love seeing people falling in love with the music we love.
Dude 🤯🤘 you know on your last NW upload, 7 days to the Wolves, I said that was my fave NW song, I may have fallen into the same trap that a lot of reactors do 🤣🤣 so I think its just easier to say what all the NW army says and that is my fave NW song is the one I happen to be listening to. Awesome reaction man 🤘🤗❤️🇬🇧
In the digital concert last week, song '7 days to the Wolves was one of the strongest. Really well performed. But its really true; live on stage they will always perform.
Julia only had time to learn the bass parts for the concert. He plays great bass and has a great bass voice. Hopefully, he and Floor get practice time (voice ) so Jukka can pick up some vocals for the Human Nature Your.
This song is so good I think the band itself underrated it, didn't play it live a lot beyond this tour, which is a shame. Such a great song. Now without Marko it's most likely off the table forever. Btw if you'd like to check some of his solo work, a good one from his last album is Stones, it has a music video even
Consider 10th Man Down from 2018 Buenos Aires Concert for your next Floor song and, for something different, Planet Hell (OFFICIAL LIVE). This one features Marco and Annette - NW's second female lead. All three have sung this song but this is the version I go back to ( I can't believe believe I actually wrote that I liked someone else's version better than Floor's). In this song, Annette's voice reminds me of Grace Slick - kind of harsh and a little bit screechy - it fits the song. And, for something way outside the wheelhouse... Annette's Slow Love, Slow. Musically, the best version is from the Imaginaerum album (this is what you will want on your playlist) but visually, the video version from the Montreaux Jazz Festival is KILLER! Its Jazz / Blues that transitions to Metal like only NW could do. It shows that they could excel in any genre but choose Metal. With the advent of Rap, Rockin Country and whiney voice Pop, I thought music was dead. Then...NW. Look through the thesaurus all you want - you will run out of superlatives within a few songs and you are left to resort to head bobbing, grinning, goose bumps and sometimes tears. And... I've had that same same head bob, grin and goose bumps since I "discovered" them 2 years ago. It doesn't go away. I've been snared by the siren's song and will be traveling 1587 miles from South Dakota to LA to see them. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that you are planning a trip to New York or California in October
I think you noticed how deep Floor went, but didn't actually realize what happened. This song is so brilliant composed, with deep matching lyrics - but if Tuomas didn't have Marko and Floor to perform - it would just be an okay song. So damn yes Marko will be a huge loss - but I believe that Tuomas can write / create new songs in constellations with Floor as only lead or with Troy and /or Jukka as backing - songs that will be just as mind blowing as this one. Floor has made duets with other male singers that - you just saw her with Henk Port, and on the extra shows, they did an old metal song of Floor's from her ReVamp days - Sweet curse ruclips.net/video/aupQ5ZJzO3A/видео.html
Sure...it is different..like all the other ones...and the 80s are strong in this one.....But isnt it great....Demon Marko showing us how it is done....and Floor again killing it....This one needed some run-throughs...but it is now on my top 5 List....what a banger !! Ready for some more energy ?? Do Last Ride of the Day from Wacken .... All Hail the Queen !
Ghost River was written for Anette, who had a poppier sound than the other two,. The songs from the Imaginaerum album have a slightly different feel to accommodate that. May I request my favorite, Alpenglow?
I'm trying to figure out what Wacken song your missing. Have you done Nemo? It's awesome. Their biggest commercial hit. I would still like you to listen to Floor sing some straight up hard rock. NORTHWARD: WHILE LOVE DIES!!!
I once heard that Finns are a very dour people. If that's true, then Emppu must be the happiest Finn ever. Side note: I've lost track of how many Floorgasms I've had. I suspect you will, too.
Hey Ryan, here's a new band for your channel: The Warning and their newest track/MV is Choke and here's the link. ruclips.net/video/TlOy0XbFVlM/видео.html They're a kickass Mexican hard rock trio that are sisters. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Annette era has some bad performances live but to be fair the recordings are also not great most of the time. And she just wasn't fit to sing some of the Tarja songs. But she was really good in studio in her 2 albums
@@RyanMear Nymphomaniac Fantasia is the song Tuomas is the most embarrassed about. It's so bad that it's almost good. Here's a short clip from the document Tuomas telling about it: ruclips.net/video/Q0dyM3a0E80/видео.html

Wow, thank you so much🤜🤛, TGSOE will happen, trust me, I just feel like I need to get through some more NW first...😉
@@RyanMear Take your time, it's worth it.
Much love
Marko´s well being is No. 1. NW will go on. If you want to see more Marko´s talent listen to "Northern Kings", "Powerless Trio" and "Sinergy" for starters.
Once you get them in your heart its for life .
Hello from Brazil! As Always, nice reaction Ryan! What about "Slaying the dreamer" next one!!
Another artist, Ayreon "everybody dies"
Keep the NW reviews coming!! Never boring!!!
Hey there, fellow Indiana Division of Nightwish Army...Hence calling Tuomas ... the metal Mozart. :)
Like your Nightwish reactions 👍🏻 I suggest you to react to their Pink Floyd Tribute of High Hopes with Marco singing. Goosbumps!
Great Van Halen vibe on this one ( Aint Talkin' Bout Love . comes to mind). Over all , hell of a banger 🤘🔥🤘. NWSU
One of my favorites!!
ghost river is about the river of life and some journeys will take to darkness so effortless sound transitions between and back and forth
The best thing about the NW is the sheer variety of styles they dip into. When listening to their song for the first time, you just don't know what to expect and they will always have a surprise up in their sleeve.💕
I second the notion of the Wintersun reactions.
If you want to weep, watch the High Hopes vid from End of An Era. Marko is utter perfection.
Great reaction! Going to suggest Ayreon again- T he Day that the world breaks down, and Kamelot-The Haunting
Favorite song off your cd so far is actually Betsy Becker- like the bar tender in the song it just hits home.
I don't think I can word how that makes me feel... thank you.
I'm getting to Ayreon, trust me.
Never gets boring 🤜🤛
Wow, well, it's different! I hope there is a time and place for it in your heart👍🤘🎶🎸
”See Me As I Am” song is not different to me, because it sounded good, and this kind of music I also like. Time for music and different kind of music? Yes, always every day. Place in my heart? Not so easily...
Another great reaction definitely 80s vibe 👍🤘
YES!! I love this one so much!
Wow, since 1882 🤯 f*** I hope music is still this good when I’m your age 🤣🤘🤗❤️🇬🇧
For real!
got the 1000ths like, yay :D continue doing you, we're here in the backseat enjoying your journey anyway because it so much reminds us of when we were in your place.
Nice!
Unexpected changes in a song? Come on, you know by now that that's what they do for a living... 😉
Not boring at al, i like it!!
This is my Cycle Song while I'm driving down River Road On my way to Washington Park 🤘👍
Hopefully, he and Floor get practice time (voice ) so Jukka can pick up some vocals for the Human Nature Your.
markco was good singer and when floor and markco would do harmonizing which was often awesome to hear her growling or them both growing together
It's okay to turn up your microphone volume up a bit.
It's pretty quiet compared to the loud Nightwish audio.
Floor has made duets with other male singers that - you just saw her with Henk Port, and on the extra shows, they did an old metal song of Floor's from her ReVamp days - Sweet curse

Winternightsunwish😜🎶👍😁🤘🤪
Sure...it is different..like all the other ones...and the 80s are strong in this one.....But isnt it great....Demon Marko showing us how it is done....and Floor again killing it....This one needed some run-throughs...but it is now on my top 5 List....what a banger !!
Ready for some more energy ?? Do Last Ride of the Day from Wacken ....
All Hail the Queen !
Have.... have you been looking at my NW video files?? 😉😉
some sugestions for your next nightwish song: elven jig/elvenpath , dead boys poem, Slaying The Dreamer
Added to the list
Ghost River was written for Anette, who had a poppier sound than the other two,. The songs from the Imaginaerum album have a slightly different feel to accommodate that. May I request my favorite, Alpenglow?
Floor has taken another soul
It's been gone since my first reaction!
with this band its more about what you may not be expecting them to do with music compositions Tuomas comes up with
FLOOR JANSEN. The Angel that makes Satan cry.
STFO..... ITS THE BEST!!!
Nope, not boring!
Kiitos :)
❤❤❤
Hey Ryan, here's a new band for your channel: The Warning and their newest track/MV is Choke and here's the link. ruclips.net/video/TlOy0XbFVlM/видео.html They're a kickass Mexican hard rock trio that are sisters. Satisfaction guaranteed.
Yes, please, you will enjoy it
Does Nightwish have one bad song? I can't think of one.
I've yet to.... react.....to one. I have checked out some Annette live stuff, though.....so there's that.
Annette era has some bad performances live but to be fair the recordings are also not great most of the time. And she just wasn't fit to sing some of the Tarja songs.
But she was really good in studio in her 2 albums
Well, 'Nymphomaniac Fantasia' leaves a lot to be desired. 😉
@@RyanMear Nymphomaniac Fantasia is the song Tuomas is the most embarrassed about. It's so bad that it's almost good. Here's a short clip from the document Tuomas telling about it: ruclips.net/video/Q0dyM3a0E80/видео.html
Now I want to hear it! Lol
I know that Nightwish will still be a great band even without Marco. But that will not make me not wanting him back on stage )
Funny Emppu 😜
Marco was the only only men white Floor as background singer
And Marco wil by nex jaer come back. You wil see
You are realy fallen in love with Nightwish .....
eighties vibe right?
😁🇫🇮🤘❤️🎶🎹🎸🥁✨👍
