    Thanks for the vid! What about a vid using a deadman like the one from Dmm? I know its not quite common but may be of help too.

    Is that the first song, or the cover of Child of the Wind at the end of the video playing over the credits? Sounds like a good studio version, would love to get a hold of it if you could point me in the right direction. Other than that, thanks for the helpful and enjoyable climbing tutorials :)

    About as safe as it is for anybody else. Place place them often and place them well. Wouldn't let the weight thing be to big of a issue.

    would you rap off something that you can just pull out after your done. If there was a reliable system for this I am pretty sure I would have heard about it.

    Hi Mike, good video.. Could have used this a while back. Good to know for the future. Also, I was wondering, I know this song is 'Child of the Wind', but which version please? I can't find it anywhere online or iTunes. Thanks

    I remember seeing this done on a (Ray Mears?) documentary years ago... it might have involved two axes. Or something along the lines of [second google result for 'ice axe retrieve']

    Mike, I weigh about 260 lbs (117 kilos) is it safe for me to take whippers onto cams?

    An anchor like this in isothermic snow (such as this appears to be), will fail in compression (and shear), i.e. by the snow in front of the anchor being packed together closer as well as some snow grain sliding past each other. With this in mind, is there any point in packing snow down on top of the ice axe (or picket)?

      I suppose its just to reinforce the anchor and help keep it from popping out over the top of the slot.

    Hi Mike, if I needed to rappel off my axe T-slot, what would be the best way to get the axe back. Thanks!

    What do I do to build an anchor if I cannot dig into the snow?

  • @mikebarter387
    @mikebarter387  12 лет назад

    Might want to think about pickets. That is actually climbing terrain. So have gear and some experience with it.

    should be fine, but depends on how far you fall(fall factor) i think.

    Don't try the ice screw retrieval either. the only time I saw this done was by a know it all Swiss guide. Of course the screw blew out and the anchor failed. I don't know came up with that stupid idea but just looking at it you can tell it wasn't even going to come close to working.

    I don't have one anymore. basically the same idea. It's all about the snow.

    Why not just cut weight? You could cut to 80kg in less than 10 months with ease.
