Amazing that I did not know of this place, as I spent a good portion of my childhood in Barstow where my grandparents and other relatives lived. Also, I once lived in Argus/Trona for a short time. Love finding new places to explore in the desert! Thanks for the great video!

I worked at the Harper Lake solar plants back in the mid 1990's. SEGS 8 & 9. It has all changed so much since then. I had heard about petroglyphs up in the Black Mtns. Never drove out there. Back then it was a risky trip out into the area you visited. There were mobile meth labs back in there. Didn't want to run across one. I hope all of that garbage is in the past now and the public can safely explore that area and enjoy those exquisite petroglyphs. Thank you for taking me there to finally see them. They are awesome!

Glad you enjoyed the tour! Funny, I did work for Luz Engineering too out at the various SEGS plants around 1990. I created a software system for them to manage the maintenance on their equipment. When Luz went defunct, the ended up paying me twice for the software. Ha ha! North of the solar plants is definitely a nice corner of the Mojave.

I'm going to be out that way at the end of June mainly doing a California train activity excursion although I expect the heat to be rough. I want to go as far north as the Keddie Wye Bridge and then loop back towards the Bay Area to have a look at the historic PCC trolleys in San Francisco. I've been looking at your information in the area. Rt 58 is on the way to the famous Techacipi loop. There seems to be a lot of opportunities for interesting drone shots (before Congress outlaws my DJI!) I've requested a 4WD from my rental agency at LAX. Time will tell if that's what I get! Always interesting content.

LOL - my second drone now is a DJI too (mini 3 pro) - I originally bought GoPro to buy U.S., but they jacked that one up. Maybe now I'll need to go find another USA drone maker. DJI has a great camera though. Nonetheless, yes, I lived 30 years in the Victor Valley (Apple Valley, Victorville), so I know the area well as you can tell that's much of the content on my vids. The Black Mtns area will be very hot until late Sept. I'd stay away. Tehachapi will still be warm but ok. I'd stay up in No Cal providing there's no wildfires. I'm sure you've seen our vid on the Feather River cyn route. Even though you will rent a 4WD, read your rental car agreement carefully as many will track your location by GPS and charge you a big fee if you take the car on a restricted dirt road.

That Athel tree photo brought back good memories of camping out and good times with friends by that tree. Your visit must have been several years ago. Today, there is an abandoned pot farm there that created a 10-foot tall berm right at the base of the Athel tree. The well is no more. Its a damn shame. It is still is nice to drive through Black Canyon. Typically don't see anyone else! Great video!

Yes, we saw the pot farm but I decided to use the old picture instead. Yes, it is a shame that such pot farms are ruining things all over the Mojave Desert. I'm glad the tree survived.
