  • Resawing Cherry logs on the bandsaw. A dead Cherry tree at the neighbour"s was cut down and I received some of the logs. I'll resaw them, dry them, store them, and use them in future projects.

    Really like the home made jigs you used. I've had my new band saw for three days. While at the dump today dumping yard waste I found a great fir stump, which I brought home to practice on. Fun!

      Which brand of bandsaw did you end up buying/? I also have a lot of fun finding logs to cut. The jig makes easy work for cutting the logs. Thanks for watching.

      I bought the Laguna 14/12 (14"). The price point was good with good quality engineering for a beginner. I've got it set up just right (I think) and will be using it on my work bench project.

    Pete, Wished you would do a video on how to build the short and long jigs that you made for cutting logs on your band saw. Is there one out there.

      There's a number of videos on u tube for these sleds. If you want some measurements I can give you those. Hope this helps.

    Thanks for sharing your jig …. I really struggle to get any straight edge when I resaw logs , that appears to eliminate "user error"

    Hi Pete I’m from Hamilton , I noticed your recycling bin said Hamilton. I’m looking for a band saw to cut logs. I was hoping you could recommend one for a novice wood working guy?

      Look on kijiji. You can find the older cast iron ones in 14 inch for decent prices. You can get riser blocks for them as well.

    Is it called resawing if it is the first time a tree has been cut up?

    Hey Pete. Just found your video on sawing short logs on your band saw. I have a bunch of hardwood from 5 inches thru 15 inches in diameter and 3 feet to 5 feet long that I was wanting to slab up into 3/4" boards for a hardwood floor. Do you think it is possible to do this on a band saw like yours. I have no saw mills anywhere in my area so trying to figure this project out.

      I can saw up 4' long logs on my sled setup. It took me a few tries to make a table and a sled that would handle the 4' 12' round logs but it works great. Need the right blade 1" with 3tpi makes sawing a whole lot easier. Here is the link.

    What type of blade on your saw? I've tried slicing up logs but it always seems to bind.

    • @jacobbrown1690

      try 3 teeth per inch , 3/4 inch blades as long as you have 1.5 hp or more they work well

    Pete, how do you counter blade drift?

    • @petefor25
      @petefor25  7 лет назад +1

      I find a sharp 3-4 teeth per inch blade works good. Adjust your tracking to move the teeth of your blade just a little bit closer to the crown of the top bandsaw wheel. Don't force your wood into the blade, let the blade do the cutting. If the blade gets too warm you loose the temper in the blade.

  • @bhearts77
    @bhearts77 7 лет назад

    i was doing just this today, but my blade was kinda cutting through the wood in an arc, what gives. couldnt keep it going straight.

    • @petefor25
      @petefor25  7 лет назад

      check blade, it needs to be in good shape and sharp, check tension. I run the gullet of the blade near the crown of the upper band saw wheel, which helps with drift.

    • @PastenTube

      And after setting everything up properly, you still might need to set up your fence to compensate for drift.
      Check out the channel of "The Wood Whisperer". He has a great bandsaw setup video

    These sleds are a waste of time and impractical. Just use a draw knife and a hand plane to get a flat surface to start from. And you won't need to drill holes in your log either.

    • @tomlyon5058
      @tomlyon5058 5 лет назад

      Robert Tomkinson without using the miter slide how do you propose to get a straight cut? I'd much rather know my slabs are the same thickness throughout than having to waste so much wood in the planer.

    • @E-BikingAdventures
      @E-BikingAdventures 5 лет назад

      @@tomlyon5058. Use the fence. That's what it's for.

    • @tomlyon5058
      @tomlyon5058 5 лет назад

      Robert Tomkinson fences don't work. If there is any stress within the wood it will begin to separate or spread open after the cut. If you're using a fence that will push against the fence and cause blade drift. With a sled the wood will still separate but it cannot push against the blade from the sled side so no blade drift.

    Cutting a log into boards is not resawing. Cutting a board that was first cut from a log is resawing.
