This looks so easy! I just got a sewing machine and was looking around for a pin cushion tutorial, watching this gave me the idea to make them orange and pumpkin shaped. Now I'm going to make a few for some beginner practice. Hopefully they turn out well enough to give as Christmas gifts. Thanks!
I think crushed walnut shells would be a good alternative. Heavier. I've made a few square 4.5" pin cushions with the crushed walnut shells and they give the cushion some weight. 😊
My young grandchildren love my sewing room but especially my pins & buttons. I wanted to make a few pincushions for them to play with & this looks like my perfect first pincushion project, plus, I have some very cute buttons. Thanks for the tips with the knots too. Nicely done video.
started learning to sew, dont know why i waited, the possibilities are exciting, i want to use this design to make a sort of chair, something a little nicer looking than a bean bag
SO CUTE! I am making my daughter a pin cushion using fabric from baby clothes. I just bought her first sewing machine and she is a wonder seamstress! Thanks for the video!
I just made two of these. One is black and white checks with red thread and a black button. The other is light green polka dot with hot pink thread and a white button. Now, I've got one for pins and one for needles. They turned out well, thanks to the excellent video and skilled demonstrator. I didn't have the right kind of stuffing, so I used shredded foam instead. The stuffing used in the video would have been better, but there's an explosion of covid-19 cases here, and I'm not going anywhere!
Hi, I really like your teaching style. Your presentations have been well thought out and executed. I especially appreciate the close up imaging of each project as you make it! Many tutorials have too much face time. Love your smile. Virginia in Ohio
I found your page about a week or so ago... and have subscribed & watched TONS of your videos. Will definitely be making several projects. This one is SEW CUTE!!!! Love our accent... thank you for sharing your talent w/ other sewers!
Amanda a couple years ago I needed a pincushion and I saw your DIY video so I tried it and it ended up being sort of like Goldy Locks! Each one I made was two small. By the time I got done I had 3 pincushions and somehow a lightbulb went on and I decided to stack them up. I put a stretch band on the small one so you can wear it on your wrist but it also holds the stack together. And so the Pum-Pin-Cushion was born all from this little video. I started selling them on Etsy and I really enjoy making them. Thanks for the video.
Adorable! And I love your tin, I have a Singer reproduction tin of the same design, different shape, and gosh I must've bought it twenty years ago. Isn't that just so neat to have and make these things that make sewing more fun? I'm off to make a pincushion and dig through my grandmother's button collection!
I just finished making this! It was my very first attempt at a craft project (and that's noticable haha). I might make another now I know how to make them. Thanks for making the video!
Thanks. It's a very clear tutorial. Other options might be to use an invisible seaming stitch to close the cushion, to put a button on the back side too so it is a reversible kind of thing. or to fit an elastic wristband like european pin cushions.
Yay!! Going to make one right now!! I'm getting ready to move across the country so I'm in a mad rush of sewing before I pack away my sewing machine! :-)
These are so cute! I currently love to use my Grabbit magnetic pin cushion but these are so cute I may just have to make a few just to have around. Love the way you made the little petals. Have a great weekend!
Lovely, and with it being low-profile, maybe my needles won't disappear into it like they do in the round, red tomato kind of pin cushion. Thanks so much for a clear and concise tutorial.
Me encantó ,muy lindo y no hablo tu idioma pero con solo ver cómo lo hacías entendí ,lo voy hacer . Ya me subcribi para ver más vídeos tuyos . felicitaciones Amanda y gracias .
That looks so lovely!! Thanks for posting. I just got my very first sewing machine, and I was looking at pin cushions then wondered if it would be easy to make. This looks like it would be great for a first project!
Thank you! OH! I had a question -- You use the flat flower head pins (or something similar) -- Is there a difference between using those and say.. glass head pins? Or is it just a preference?
+Shiblets It's more just a preference. I like using flat headed pins as they stay flat against the surface of the fabric and are easier to grab when mid-sewing. My advice for you would be to use whatever you feel comfortable and confident in using. :)
That is so cute. It would make a lovely top on a gift package instead of a bow. Very creative.
+Catherine Eddy What a wonderful idea!!
