I have manual e39 530d 193ps touring..I love it..367000km on the clock and still going strong
That 3.0 diesle sound makes driving million times better ofc combined with more power instead 2.0 engine...
Pls make more of old cars like this we love it !

Seems like it's doing the same thing as mine where the converter doesn't seem like it's fully locked in 5th and you can see the RPM needle wiggle.

It would be perfect first car. You will fall in love with this car if you buy well maintained with 3l engine. E39 is also very reliable, engine M57 is the best

i have the exact same car, you can hear the wind much more, even when driving at high speeds, that part wasn't the microphones fault ;)

Terrible fuel efficency compared to modern 4 cylinder 2 liter diesel engines with even better performance. But reliability... ;)
Why would you compare it to 4 cylinder 2 liter engines? Yeah, the consumption is not that good in the city, but on the autobahn it is more than good for 200hp heavy car.My e39 530d gives 5.5/6l outside the city.

What’s the real consumption like mpg? I’m considering downgrading from a 4cyl 320d 2014 which returns 45mpg but prefer the older BMW’s. I do a lot of mileage for work but overall the e39 still a much cheaper car and will likely save me money and I think looks nicer. I live in the city at the moment for work but do a lot of motorway miles circa 25k per year
@@marcusm4444 the fuel consumption isnt much worse, considering its bigger engine size and weight, and also the 5 speed auto. I get around 40 mpg (7.2 l/100km) and i use it ~20 minutes city ~20 minutes highway each day. Might do better if you get a proper optimalisation. My dad has an x5 with the same enginge and trans and he got like 1-1.5 l/100km better consumption after he got his car optimised
