    Amazing to see a video from 7 years ago. I still remember seeing this video for the first time. Still today the video makes sense.

    Just had to say today is the first day I’ve ever taken a computer apart. Thanks to one of your videos I’ve recovered my first gold fingers using a hot iron! I felt like a pro hahahaha

    Thank you Sir..I am getting a good education from you. I have been recycling computers for at least 7 years and now i know how much gold i am accumulating. I think the person who I have been selling to has been feeding me a line of bull about true gold content.

    I love your videos! I’ve watched just about every one of your videos and hope you keep making them. Just so you know, many people make videos but they are not as enjoyable to watch as you are👍🏼thanks for sharing your knowledge. I’m scrapping and I believe I love it as much as you do☺️

    Just starting out. What is aluminium heat sink , and keep separate from other aluminium - why is this? What is a slot card, ram stick and IC chip? I heard you mention a carat solution is this to find if high or low grade gold or if in fact gold at all? Do you separate grades of gold?Thank you so much for your help - look forward to your reply.Wazza

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Warwick Atkinson aluminium heatsink is what sits on top of the cpu in pc's, it's usually extruded aluminium si it's worth a little more then regular. slot card like a video card or network card that slots into a motherboard. ram stick is RAM, the memory sticks. IC chip are the black chips on a circuit board, usually long and black with legs on each side.

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад +1

      +Warwick Atkinson end of the day gold is gold, at this stage don't worry about it, just stack it up and when your more experienced you'll know the difference.

    Hello, I've been running across memory cards with "silver" fingers. They're from Cobalt network hubs which, sadly, I found no buyers for so I'm scrapping them. I still have 5 or 6. As much I would hope they are platinum....I'm guessing they're something worth very little...silver would be nice at least. Any ideas?

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  8 лет назад +1

      some say silver, some say tin, more value in the ic chips though

      Thanks! I'd still like to get a photo of this LARGE CPU (roughly 8 or 9 cm square) I found in one of my pickups. It came from some IBM machine based on the sticker on it bearing the logo....but no more info on it. White, heavy ceramic with wider spaced gold pins. The heat sink it came in is gorgeous as well. Had solid copper spacers in it too....very cool.

    hi how do you recover gold. do you just melt it then add 24ct gold as i live in the uk so cannot get any chemicals which people use to recover gold. if you do melt gold and add 24ct gold do you know where i can get 24ct gold at scrap price as people charge £10 or $15 more than the scrap price on ebay and other gold websites. thanks

  • @CreamBoyReal
    @CreamBoyReal 9 лет назад +2

    i dont think you need to separate the connectors from the boards, you can soak them together and the etching solution should recover more plating

    im in the us , so I wont be stomping on your toes lol so could you give me any tips on where to find scrap computers/electronics , I haven't been able to find any well 3 so far but I paid like $5 which puts me in the hole either way thanks for the video

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Mike Pezz computer repair shops & tv repair shops build up circuit boards, some you might pay, others may give you them free, especially if you can provide a bin, schools always have e-waste, businesses, office buildings etc, just depends how far you want to take it, there's plenty e-waste out there if you want to start a part time hobby business, you just want to focus on recycling and use that line, telling them your just going for gold won't get much but saying your keeping e-waste out of landfill will sound better.

    it dosent matter in color it matters on the layer of gold because under these layers is copper and a tiny bit silver in some case if I,m right, I,m a computer builder and in college that what I was told, so it takes quite a lot to recover gold I know because I do it on the side , but the guy in the video still have a bit of knowledge from what he is saying.

    • @musicman6664

      hardly anything inside a laptop, there is the processor, ram chips, some connector pins, sometimes the sound card outlets, the processor base and the docking pins for your hard drive that's it and maybe some ic chips.

    How many Rams routhly to make 1kg bulk of plated fingers?

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Adam Dilem too hard to work out, ram weighs different, depends on the ic chips on it, a lot of gold is in the ic chips and the whole ram stick can have gold plating on it, so the fingers are just a small part of it and most ram you don't cut fingers off, you process the whole stick.

    • @adamdilem941
      @adamdilem941 9 лет назад

      eWaste Ben want to know how much is it worth to pay per unit for gold recovery.

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Adam Dilem you buy per kg not per single unit, US$20 per kg max if your recovering gold from the ic chips too.

    • @adamdilem941
      @adamdilem941 9 лет назад

      eWaste Ben I'am based in the UK and UK sellers are asking for about £20/kg of RAM (if you add the shipping fee) often more! Which is over $30. Wonder how the buyers are getting any profit out of it.
      How do you process the whole ram then and how do you get other than gold precious metals content too?. I know there are expensive shredding and grinding installations for that but am talking at a level of DIY at home.

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Adam Dilem you remove everything off the stick and dip them whole just like you would fingers, let the gold disolve in the solution, the ic chips are usually incinerated to get to the gold. 20 pounds is too much to pay, you better off building them up from pc's you find

      you still need to use aqua regia to get the gold, so it's not really a safe alternative in the end.
      normally the solution would be 50/50 nitric/water, some people use HCL to dissolve the gold.
      I don't refine so can't helpmuch

    Sorry, Its not true. 1kg of high grade gold fingers = 3 - 4 gramas of pure gold.

    • @starpointstudios
      @starpointstudios 6 лет назад +1

      Sorry, that's not true. There are plenty of videos on youtube of professionals getting around 0.8 ounces of gold from 100 RAM modules (Mike the Scrapper for one). 50 DDR2 modules produce 2 ounces of prime cut fingers so that would be 880 modules to 1 kilo. 0.8*8.8 = roughly 7 ounces of gold.

      Hi, Borax can be found at the hardware store, it's a cleaner.
      Nitric can be bought at chemical supply companies.
      Tantalum Capacitors are mostly sold to American refiners, yes very hard to sell except on ebay.
      Thanks for watching.

    What is the value of 1 kilo of ram fingers, and if you process them yourself, what does it take (material wise)

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Boomy around 6 grams per kg, there's a couple different ways to get the gold, it's not something simple, it can kill you if you breath the chemicals so do your research

    • @BoomySnipes
      @BoomySnipes 9 лет назад

      Do people buy just ram fingers? i problably can't afford to buy all the materials needed

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Boomy Yep, people buy all fingers, not just from ram. they also buy ram complete for $10-$12 kg

    • @BoomySnipes
      @BoomySnipes 9 лет назад

      +eWaste Ben got a pound of ram fingers, value?

    • @eWasteBen
      @eWasteBen  9 лет назад

      +Boomy not much, if you refined it you'd get around 2 grams of gold, so $70 to $80 after refining, to sell the fingers, maybe $30

  • @xylz1798
    @xylz1798 9 лет назад

    its to bad that not all computer parts are reused to build a refurbished computer for the poor , back when i were young i had to steal my first computer system , i could not work enough to make extra money to buy one , now finally the system realizes that i needed some sort of funding for my physical disability , if this funding would have been available for me back then i would not have been so heavily into crime
