  • Chordal Hop is an amazing form of the propagation of Ham Radio signals on the short wave bands. It is capable of providing good strong signals over the longest of DX paths. It does not require ultra low angles of radiation so, even a dipole in a small garden should get your signals through. Peter G3OJV, discusses the basics and shows how you can listen to live Chordal Hop Signals from New Zealand almost any day of the week.

That was very interesting Peter, many thanks. Not getting in to shack much these days, and aerial feeder broken. I am going to find an internet SDR receiver and listen on 14.034 Mc/s tonight.

In the UK the long path is normally morning time. So check RBN around 7.45 - 8.00 am approx.

I have been told that in WW2, German U-boats in the Atlantic could be heard in the bottom of New Zealand.
