Several years ago I was lucky enough to catch Charo performing a fairly small, intimate show at the Chumash Casino nestled in foothills of Santa Barbara. When I mentioned to a couple friends at my local watering hole that I wasn't going to miss this show for the world, word spread quickly and next thing you know there were about 10 people as excited as I was about going to the show. Charo was awesome! Just plain good vibes at the show. Her guitar playing and music were everything we expected and more. That woman is one-of-a-kind, so many things all rolled up into one. Talented musician, commanding entertainer, funny, saucy, sassy, sexy and more. And somehow, that's just her. I had a brief chance to express my appreciation of all this to her as I purchased a copy of her current CD at the time (one of the few celebrity autographed items I own). My only disappointment that night was the fact that the guy who our group selected to handle ticket acquisition failed to fully follow the instructions I had given him. This was so important to me that I made sure to review/remind him several times: "Make sure to get the 'A' seats, not the 'B' seats. Yes, it's a very small venue, but please ... GET THE 'A' SEATS." He got the 'B' seats. Sigh. None of us had every seen Charo perform before. I knew, however, that this was going to be a night of entertainment across the board, one where we would want to be as immersed in it all as possible. The 'A' seats were the front half, with rows spanning A-Q (17 rows). The 'B' section held rows R-Z and AA-GG (9 and 7 rows, respectively). When our group assembled to make the short (20 minutes or so) drive up to the casino for the show, Joe (the guy who I will never allow to be in charge of purchasing tickets ever again) started handing out the tickets. Section B, Row U. All of them. I ask Joe what happened. He said that while they did have a group of seats in the A section, those were only a handful of rows in front of us and cost about $5 more per seat, so he figured we should save a little money and just get the B seats. Never again will I allow anybody else to be in charge of ticket acquisition for shows that are "important" to me, LOL/sigh. So, you ask, was it *REALLY* such a big deal? Yes. I think you'll understand after one more paragraph or so. Here's a link to a picture (shared via Google Photos account). It gives an excellent view of what things look like at the Chumash Casino venue. You can see how intimate/small the place is, you can see the little fence/aisle that separates the A section that's closer to the stage, from the B section that's behind the fence. And, conveniently, I've put yellow dots on the seats that Joe decided he needed to choose betweeen when he thought (mistakenly) that he had a choice to make between the A seats and the B seats. photos.app.goo.gl/yQogafKwhvXskehD9 $5 difference per seat? That's peanuts, relative to actual seat costs or not (back then I think we might have spent $40 or $50 for tickets to gigs like this). But, here's the real kicker. When the show was in full swing, a bit past the halfway mark, Charo started getting very interactive with the crowd. I said saucy, sassy, and sexy earlier in this post, right?
Yeah. She's walking through the entire A section crowd, talking to people, cracking jokes, *dancing with people* and more. At one point, she was as close as about 4 to 5 rows and right in front of me, dancing the lambada with some lucky soul, doing her whole "Cuchi-cuchi!" thing. Lucky for Joe that he is such a great guy, other than this one incident. We're still friends. I'll just handle ticket acquisition myself from now on. :-)
Her version of Recuerdo de Alhambra is the only one that's literally brought a tear to my eye. I remember hearing her play when I was a child in the 70's. Too bad so many people seem to have missed that. She was amazing then and still is. I always loved how she was smart as whip, ridiculously talented in every way imaginable, beautiful from the inside radiating out, and unapologetically sexy. Watching her express herself in *all* of these ways was an absolutely liberating experience. I so wanted to be like her when I grew up. It's only too bad it seems some didn't appreciate how awesome she was in so many different ways. There are few people you can put next anyone on stage and know for certain they will never be upstaged.
@@veronicat4517 Um, she was a sex symbol, and no one belittled her, she played a part, it was part of her act. Shes an amazing talent, a beautiful woman and a pioneer in her industry. She is like a combination of Sofia and Shakira
And don't you dare forget Andres Segovia, lols.
Why? Charo is from Spain in Europe, not Latinoamérica. Spain has its own european culture. Shakira and Vergara are from the same country (Colombia).

Just stop
@@pablofernandez6729
Because they remind people of Charo that's why!
Just stop nitpicking, ffs
How did she get away with that outfit??????
Just because she is Charo. Charms anyone and makes them Play-Doh.
Charo is legend. I'm a one man band on youtube.
To think that this passed for entertainment so many years ago.
Last time I looked at a TV the 'artists' had little to offer.
Uh yeah...so awesome now.
0:40 He tried to grab her but she handled it well. Wonder how many times she had to deal with this during her career, before the whole harassment era.
One looks confortable with her and the other doesnt. Lol
"Mi nombre es Charo y toco maracas"
My dad said she was nice looking but you can't understand what she says!😅
I had to speak to what the gentleman said her acting stupid had nothing to do w race it was her schtick , and men love a bimbo and it was hilarious but we all know she was anything but wich makes her infinatley more attractive . dont try to make everything about race , you will never have peace if you do ! Charro is incredible , you know everybody must have wanted some of that but yet she was able to focus and learn to play like that , amazing!
Jess Reddington charo is white as the first pilgrims that arrived in America so it not racism but a little bit of stereotyping blondes as dumb . It made her a lot of money and she never complained because she knew she wasn't stupid and was very talented in her field as a guitarist.

Hush up twerp
Hmmm... no innuendo in this at all... HAHAHA...
The way she moves dean's hand away from her backside. Smooth. He was a drunk and a pervert.
It starts around 00:44
I never saw that, good catch! It looks like he was moving her stool to redirect her attention, at first. I keep rewatching it: you think he move his hand to her butt? It doesn't look like he moved the hand from the back of stool forward to her rea. It's weird!
Tom Segura brought me here.
Looks a lot like Shakira
NOPE!!! Shakira wasn't even born. Shakira COPIED Charo!! As did Sofia Vergara. They both stole parts of Charo's act (AND LOOK!!) to create theirs. I wonder how she really feels about that!
