    I was going to comment on your responses to comments being one or two sentences. Then i seen your comment to the person who grew up in the house besides the burning structure. You gave more than a quick response and answered with compassion and sympathy. Thats a class act and you get my respect keep up the good work

    You did great getting up there in time to still catch good action! I grew up just a stone's throw from here on Cedar Place and we had many fires in the mid to late 80's, before I moved. The first fire I witnessed in person happened just down the street from here, at Herriot and Riverdale Avenue (I can see the vacant lot where the building stood in your wide shots from the roof) on April 24, 1985. I was 5 and was walking home from school with my mom. We turned off Jackson Street onto Herriot, and I saw the flames roaring through the roof of that building...found out recently it was set by a kid playing with matches...anyway I was both scared and thrilled at the same time...and I remember distinctly seeing jets of water shooting out of the flames, so engine companies were operating in there (they eventually went to exterior ops). The way home was in the opposite direction, towards Caroline, so ironically, we walked past these very same buildings on the way home. I remember my mom constantly telling me to stop looking back at the fire and keep walking, lol!
    The house that was saved in this fire is the sole survivor on that block now. The fire buildings were demolished, and the vacant lot next to them used to have houses on them that burned in 1981 and 1983. Anyway, great video, I'm catching up with all your older works now :-)

    You got the perfect angle again! Way to go John....excellent video. So much water is used putting out these large fires. The street looked like a river!

    Ya know John, I know u like to give us the best angle for when u r shooting, But personally as i see it as long as u get the shots where no one is in your direct line of filming (and u dont run the risk of getting a shower in the process), that to me right there is a great angle. Kind of like for this video: No one was in your way and u have the best spot for this. Special props to ya my friend!

    51 Herriot St (the house that was saved by the Yonkers Fire Dept.) was the house I was raised in as a child until I was 19. My dad moved in that house in 1928 and lived there until his death in 2004. My sister owns the house now and is planning to rebuild. I can't say enough for the heroic way the men and woman fought that fire. My father always said the fire dept. usually does more damage than the fire. He was wrong and would be proud.

      +Magnus Meekins WOW! WHAT A GREAT AND WONDERFULLY MOVING STORY ABOUT YOUR HISTORY AND THE HOUSE! I AM SO HAPPY THAT IT WAS SPARED AND SAVED! IT WAS A TOUGH FIRE BUT THE YONKERS FIRE DEPARTMENT DID A PHENOMENAL JOB FIGHTING IT! ANYWAY, GOD BLESS AND THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND FOR SHARING WITH ME AND THE VIEWERS! ;o)

      Good luck to your sister rebuilding that beautiful home. Even with that fire the house shows it was well maintained. Lots of joy and happiness still to be had there. That house isn't ready to give up.

      To this day, it remains the sole survivor on that side of Herriot (not counting the corner building at Jackson).

    Looks like several total losses here! From watching/seeing the results, I am absolutely not a fan of vinyl siding! I hate to think how many Firefighters get burned by having molten vinyl drip on them, turnouts or no!! Another good job my man. As always, stay safe!

    Nice vantage point: Notice how many ladder companies? Notice that 72 and 75 are not the 1st and 2nd due units normally. Looks like 74 had to effect a heavy rescue upon arrival.

      +Joseph Bishop WELL, I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT THEIR STRATEGY WAS JOSEPH! SORRY AND THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)

    • @scorpiocat69
      @scorpiocat69 8 лет назад

      +Joseph Bishop They were attempting to protect the building on the far right of your screen, a water curtain being utilized, but the building on the far left has got a fire raging in the cockloft. Normally that would be dealt with by a "trench cut", however: it appears that the roof is too hazardous to attempt it. Ladder companies in front of that building are not from that district, which explains the delay and resultant effect. The first due "truck", or ladder company usually responding lost their company quarters recently, yes, the building was condemned due to years of neglect by the city's agency for maintenance. Perhaps that helps explain what you questioned.P.S. Those building; much of that neighborhood, date back 100+ years.
