Collecting things is normal. We wouldn’t have museums or libraries; many people like bringing objects into their lives to make them smile. As long as I’m not hurting anyone or myself, I should be able to buy what I like. If something I buy or collect doesn’t do that, I can always sell or donate it, learn from my mistakes and move on. Also, minding my own business is can be a gift to someone else, lol!
I think the important to ask yourself (ourselves) is, are you missing out on other things like buying a house, paying your mortgage or holidays due to your shopping. If not, then, it’s not a problem.
Bags were on my mind 24/7 and I was constantly scrolling for bags and checking sites or eBay and I realized that that wasn't healthy or normal and there was more to life than bags bags bags. Yes I still love bags but I no longer allow bags to rule my world personally.
@@GaryGarlic This is how I was feeling to. It took over my mind instead of dreaming about bucket lists and self reflection i was only thinking about bags and fashion. I’m so over it.
I love your message of acceptance and not giving into the need to "fix" oneself.
I realize that this isn’t the main theme of the video, but I love how you touched on how we are constantly told to “fix ourselves”. I naturally have this personality anyway and realized recently that I could spend my life, like it’s my full time job, watching videos and doing the “work” to fix my (aging) appearance, my health, my finances, and so on 😂 Maintaining beauty, in particular … the finish line is always moving
Collecting Hermes bags brings you joy and it's obvious that you love and use all the bags in your collection (some more than others, of course, since there are places one shouldn't carry luxury bags for safety and security reasons). You also seem to be careful in not going overboard as far as shopping as far as luxury; as in you're not buying everything and anything.
Most of us have things that we love; things that we're passionate about. There's nothing wrong with that. Finding joy in life is a good thing, as life can be hard at times. Also, life is too short not to enjoy it and you enjoy handbags and fashion. Keep on enjoying these things, have fun with collecting and live fully. The years go by fast, especially after one hits 35 (I'm 55 and the past 2 decades have gone by so fast. There are days that I look in the mirror and wonder who the hell that older lady is who's staring back at me. 😂).
i think underconsumption core is about using your stuff until it falls apart and not about having the latest things.
We moved out to some land. We have to take our garbage to the dump….a visit to the local dump will really curb your spending. You see all of the waste taking up the land and it reality hits. 💜🐦⬛
Thanks for the conversation. May you live comfortably in the balance that YOU find right for you. Love ya, Jess 🥰
I’m attracted to these ideas of minimalism but I’m not sure that it’s the way that I want to live all of the time. I have made efforts to cut back on spending and shopping but I still want to indulge when I find something that I really like! It’s really easy to go over board with a lot of different things, as you mentioned. If shopping “too much” is my worst flaw, then I think I’m doing okay. 😂. Also, only I get to decide what too much means for me and my finances.
That expensive bags are not an invesment Don't lie to yourself. With 4 bags is enough, real wealthy people never splurge. Luxury brands play with our mind letting us thing that we belong to the top an that is not true.
I agree! Not everyone will get to the top. That’s why we have and have nots.
Rich people are gifted these bags to advertise so aspirational people can look at them and find inspiration to buy
Rich people dont spend money on bags that sit on shelves
I agree. I enjoy shopping, and if it's not causing harm, I don't want to feel guilt. Life is meant to enjoy, and part of it is enjoying the beautiful creations that are out there.
Everyone is different. I was taught to spend under 5% of my income on clothes and bags. To get X bag, have to have extra ways to earn more, or reduce something else like Starbucks, wine and dining out. This is to manage inevitable guilt: whatever purchases didn't cost more percentage-wise than I was raised to spend. Could it be less? Yes, so I try to feel blessed and try to tamp down my FOMO. Bags aren't Pokémon, I don't need to catch 'em all to win. Wouldn't say no to a bag if the universe(or an Hermès store) just gave it to me😉
Hi Jess! I think when you get to be a certain age, 40, 50, 60...ish. You cease to care what people think about your choices. No one is going to tell you what to like or buy or collect anymore. There's is a lot of freedom and relief in that. ❤
Hi Jess! I feel like if you can afford it and it makes you happy then enjoy! I think anything that makes you feel good and positive is a benefit for your overall health. I love shopping. And it’s something that I enjoy doing with friends and of course my mom and even my mother in law! And I love that I’m able to connect more with her when we shop, whether it’s shoes and accessories or home goods it’s a nice way to connect.
when i was in my lux journey people used to tell me why would you spend x on a bag, making me feel I should be saving more. come to realize I'm happy I did. i am now unemployed, have cut way back. but I think, imagine if I tried to get a CF now or even in the next 1-2yrs, I could never. so I'm glad that I did.
You might need some balance in your life. Your handbags are a hobby and you pretty frequently mention don’t always feel good about it. You should consider adding a hobby or activity that’s “good”- healthy, learning, productive, doing for others etc. This might free you up to just enjoy your handbags. That’s how I manage to enjoy my luxuries without ever seconding guessing myself or wondering what people think of me. This works because I love the other things I’m involved.
Same here, I used to struggle since I had a niche luxury hobby and always felt guilty a lot of the time even though it brought me lots of joy. Focusing that energy on other things can help move away that “guilt” mindset that makes you think when people see you they only see your hobby, which is actually just projection of how I saw myself due to insecurity. Definitely moving such a huge portion of time (good or bad) spent thinking about it can actually make you enjoy and appreciate it more :)
Your hair down looks amazing Jessie! Great video as usual ❤
thanks lots!!😍
You got such a sweet personality Jess, love your channel! I love shopping too and I would buy up the whole world if I could! I will happily give my money just to get the item that I want and feel the saddest when I miss out on a buy! I have a hard time letting things go too 🙄😅 And I was glad I was brought up that way thats its ok to buy what you love and enjoy. As long as you can afford, buy what you love and enjoy the happiness it brings you that's what money is for ❤❤
I’m tired of “fixing” things. Then again, I love buying new stuff.
Very good video Jess. You have a community here. I watch you to hear about all things luxury and just enjoy hearing the latest in your life. My son always tells me not to overthink things. I’m trying. But hey, wait until you want to put a keypad on the outside of your luxury closet or room to keep your housekeeper out. To me that actually makes sense! We’re all in this together!💖 As far as friends seeing your channel, keep in mind we are here for you and appreciate everything you do for us!
Love your down to earth videos!
I think you're wonderful, and I truly enjoy the content of your videos. Thank you for sharing and normalizing a topic that can be so touchy! I love handbags and enjoy collecting and learning about the different styles and designers, and I've oftentimes felt guilty and ashamed around family and friends. Thank you for speaking about this so honestly.. It's refreshing!!! ❤
As long as you are living within your means, then continue! Buy what you love! ❤️
you look beautiful! love the hair
Aw thanks 🥰
Great video. I love to go shopping, but I no longer feel like I HAVE to buy something. At the same time, if I see a bag I like, I will buy it and not feel guilty. Life is too short. (I am 74).
Retail therapy is real! It's an emotional bandaid
I’ve been doing a clothing low-buy this year and it’s been pretty successful so far. I’ve only bought one piece per month, which is half what I bought in my last low-buy year. I’ve also sold numerous pieces. My goal is for my wardrobe to not keep growing! I haven’t done so well with accessories, so I’ll try to be more discriminating about accessories next year 🙏
Great perspective ❤
Your skin and hair look really healthy.
Jess, I've been loving these type of chatty videos from you! I'm not in TikTok, but I heard about this "underconsumption core" from Beepworld's video. To me it just sounds like people are reminding themselves and others, that not everyone is buying new stuff all the time, and that there is nothing abnormal or wrong with it. It can hard for teenagers, when they feel like everyone else has cool new things.
It's hard to know what is enough and what is too much. This is something I often ponder myself. It might be true that excessive shopping hauls gather more audience, but I personally enjoy more of these deep dives.
Unfortunately the average person has to live this way… we can’t afford to keep following influencers… our houses are becoming cluttered and we have to be mindful in this economy
I agree with everything you said. Another great video :)
I'm a collector. I won't change, that's who I am and it makes me happy. So funny to ask since the topic is consumerism...but what is your lipstick in this video? haha
Love this topic. I see it shopping/ collecting as a hobby, everyone has something that they enjoy. I enjoy shopping too its fun and exciting to see the new bags and clothing each season. If you can afford to buy something you like then I say go for it life is short. If you can’t afford it and are using charge cards and your rent or mortgage money then you have a problem and should get help.
Hey Jess, where did you get that jacket?
Don’t let anyone judge what u wish to collect / how u wanna spend ur money .
Yes, underconsumption is real if one has not had a job for a long time. Our country was hit the hardest in Europe because of the Ukrainian war and Russia being our neighbour. Lots of university educated people are unemployed, or laid off for how long? University degree is many times too much to get employed in another field. I have sold some of my belongings and feel like selling my bags too. There is no bag or any consumption when one does not need to go anywhere.
There are so many cute things out there to buy ❤ I love looking at them when I bring them home
It really depends what you value more. For me for example, I would rather put that money towards house or go on nice holiday with my boyfriend). I also like to put most of my money in savings and investments, especially in times like these. We don't know what will happen tomorrow. But some people might get more joy from a handbag.
And I still love nice handbags, my favourite handbag is mini Windsor brown - quilted from Fairfax and Favor, I bought it on sale for like 240 eur and I would prefer it to any other handbag (even Birkin). It's such a good quality, so unique. I have never seen anybody else wear it. And my quilted version was limited edition as well.
Ive come to the realization i like bags more than the thought of getting botox. Also botox dont completely dissolve and could build up if you get addicted to taking those. You actually get far with supplement, lymf drainage, training and sun screen protection and hydration.
That’s why social media are destroying a lot of things… hence i have unfollow a lot of channel😊It’s a powerful influencer
Hi Jess off topic pls can we have a tour of your jelly cats. Thanks Stella
Very wise words!
this feels like middle class people discovering poverty and larping as it
people will always judge you do what love people hate that love coach so I do love
Coach has some really cute bags lately!!
@@Jessiestyle yes fall is my favourite then sinner
Sending hugs!
As a maximalist i can't relate to the new trend but i appreciate it
It is an interesting reaction to the last few years!
I don’t feel your handbag collection constitutes as overconsumption because it’s your passion and you make related content. The underconsumption content is more so targeting those who make unnecessary purchases in many aspects of your lives. Although I suppose most of us are somewhere on that spectrum! Watching it helps remind me to be more mindful about what I buy, as I know I can apply all of the suggestions or completely align with the thinking
😊❤
Yes bc sad but also it was ostrich and 😢 fendi
❤
🤗
🥰👍🏼

Jeess 😃
Morning 💚
lol you have the whole concept of luxury wrong
Real Luxury is not having a lot of things but being contented with good quality pieces that can be worn a lot and will stand the test of time
Underconsumption is the best ..
why are you watching all topics that you are not interested in social media
How hard is it to click exit ? You are a grown women
There’s no such thing as underconsumption once your needs are met in my opinion
❤
