Yes! I have always thought this. When I first heard it on the album. Given that we are all around the same age, we would have all grown up with this TV programme. And the catchy simple lyrics of the theme tune would have been ingrained on our brains. Funny to think that this may well have been the inspiration for this song. Genius! 😜

this is as close to a beatles parody as anything neil innes penned for the rutles. it opens like "good day sunshine," closes like "with a little help from my friends," and draws upon "while my guitar gently weeps" for the bridge. excellent pastiche. i mean that as a compliment.
