    Thanks for the tour! As a student, I’ve tried a few different things for a case to take to open mic jams and meetups, so it’s helpful to see what a professional uses. I’m also glad to see I’m not alone in wearing musician ear plugs! (Sometimes I’ve wondered if I’m the only one in the venue using them...lol.)

    • @Learntheharmonica
      @Learntheharmonica  5 лет назад

      Yes, I think more people should use earplugs, but I suppose it's their ears they're wrecking! Drummers tend to wear them, which I think says something :) I used to use a wooden sewing kit case which looked really cool but fell apart.

    A general question for practicing: Do you recommend using earplugs for practicing or do you mainly use them for gigs?

    • @Learntheharmonica
      @Learntheharmonica  2 года назад +1

      Hi Kristian - yeah sometimes I wear earplugs to practice if I'm just running through scales or a lick repetitively. My poor ears don't need to hear non-stop harp!

    Hi, you say you wear out your harmonicas. I read seydel uses steel reeds that last longer. Did you try those? Is that a myth, or what's wrong? Why most of my favorite harmonica players use hohner only?

    • @Learntheharmonica
      @Learntheharmonica  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah I've tried the stainless steel reeds and they didn't last any longer for me so I couldn't justify the extra cost. I generally use my harps for a year or so, which is quite a while given I play them every day and gig them several times a week.

    • @hh-ck6ko
      @hh-ck6ko 5 лет назад

      Thanks for your response. I guess I'll stick to hohner then, going to try crossover, i've heard a lot of positive things about it, and about marine bands in general.

    Hey, mate! I'm curious. Have you ever tried putting GoldenMelody reed plates into a Marine Band or other Hohner? I'd like to try it, since I'm more of a wooden comb guy, but I wouldn't want to spend money on reeds I won't be able to use. Thanks!

    • @Learntheharmonica
      @Learntheharmonica  4 года назад

      Hi, thanks for commenting. I don't really fiddle with reedplates as I'm generally happy with Special 20 out of the box. I know there are several Hohner harps whose reedplates are interchangeable (www.hohner-cshop.de/en/Harmonica/Richter-Diatonic/MS-Series/) but I think the Golden Melody might not fit other combs because of the placement of the screw holes. Anyone reading this who has tried it?

    • @Learntheharmonica
      @Learntheharmonica  5 лет назад +2

      I use musician's earplugs, but not custom or expensive ones. They do change the way things sound at a gig, but it's a price I'm willing to pay to keep my hearing. No hearing = no work! You can get custom-moulded ones that are supposed to be really good.

  • @thamizhkavingan
    @thamizhkavingan 5 лет назад

    Hi, I wanna start on harmonica... I haven't even held one proper harmonica before! But I do really want to get into playing some basic stuff(if time permits), I don't just want to waste hundreds of buck (or even tens [yeah I know I'm cheap!]) been searching for what to buy, got a lot of recommendations for hohner marine band and special 20 but they are not cheap(not in my league) but got another recommendation for a easttop blues (T008K) saw some cheap ones like vault ha1000 or ha1100(really cheap) but how do you think these play? have you ever played (or even heard their names)? if you could do video on these really cheap harps it'd be helpful for a lot of beginners(or it may be just me being too greedy)! but just a replay would be very much appreciated!! Thank you for making lovely contents anyway!

    • @Learntheharmonica
      @Learntheharmonica  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Shyaam K, I would really recommend a Special 20 as the cheaper harmonicas just aren't as good quality, but of course it's up to you in the end so go with whatever you can afford. They all do the same thing, it's just about the quality. Good luck! Liam

I also have a beautiful Echo bell metal reed harp that is in the most fantastic shape . Made in 1940 One of my A harps is an old Stutt Mary . It’s the bomb 💣 truly . Made in the 1920s . I’m afraid to play it often . lol .
