      Breadmaking has an art to it. You have to know how moist the air is in order to get it right. Flower needs to be weighed, not measured if you want accuracy. Sometimes when I make a loaf of bread I need to add more flour on a rainy day and other days less.

    Ok but why aren’t we talking about how Wealthy someone has to be to upkeep this lifestyle? The amount of time spent doing house work is more than a full time job if she’s cooking like this all the time. 😭 not to mention who is watching her toddlers while she’s making bread for 7 hours

      Exactly. As someone who’s made a lot of things from scratch, even the most efficient tool in the world would take hours upon hours to make everything from scratch like that. As was discussed in another comment, it's not really about $$$. My grandma lived that life in the 50s (when she was raising her kids). She didn't make every single thing from scratch but she did make a lot of it that way. She also worked a full time job and raised two kids in a time when a lot of men didn't help out with that stuff. Apparently Lucky washes the dishes and plays with the kids. My granddad didn't wash a dish, cook, do laundry, iron, bathe the kids or change a diaper. It boggled my grandma's mind that a man would even know how to do that stuff. Sure, he could cook a few basic things but that was about it. She also prided herself on only ever taking two personal days in over 40 years of work at the sewing factory she worked at. It takes money but not like you're thinking. It takes time and a lot of people, myself included, would rather be doing other things than trying to make bread from scratch just to have a sandwich.

    If Nara really makes everything from scratch, she must be preparing that dough the day before, wakes up super early, or just preps big batches. Cause damn…never underestimate how long it takes to make bread. Respect to bakers out there who wake up at 2-3am to make us fresh loaves each day!

    • @kailynrudd7937
      @kailynrudd7937 2 месяца назад +5

      If you're only making one loaf, it's definitely a lot quicker. I work in a bakery, and it's about 6 hours start to finish for batches that make about 50 loaves of dough to sponge, rise, knead, shape, and bake.
      However, the entire reason I applied to the bakery was because I found a 1 hour white bread recipe that I was obsessed with and making every other day. More like an hour and a half with bake time, I think? I haven't made bread at home much since getting hired but damn, it was so easy and I would just eat the whole loaf in a day. So much of that is down time, too. Like, yeah, it takes a long time to rise and to bake, but those are hands-off stages where you can be doing other things.
      What really stunned me, though, was that he didn't just... Do it by hand? I've never used a stand mixer to make bread at home, just looking up how to go without would have saved him so much time and energy, the poor boy. I'd want to die after that much running around for one loaf of bread.

      @@Life-oo2tr that’s a bakery, making 1 loaf a day is actually very little time commitments - most of the time goes in the resting and the baking. I think the most absurd part isn’t that she’s making stuff from scratch, it’s that she’s doing it all at once for specific meals. Like, making the cereal seems relatively normal if you make a bunch of it in advance and not the morning of- baking your own bread and making your own jam and peanut butter is great, it just seems insane to do all that because your kids want a pb&j that moment- “okay sweetie I’ll make you a sandwich, just give me 5 hours”

    I know this was a few months ago, but by 15 min in, I was laughing so much I just kept watching. Bless your heart for the obvious effort at looking as effortless as Ms. Nara but let me say, the moment I'm sure many of us related to was the deathgrip on the mixing bowl as you held it to the too small mixing thing and hoping it would all just somehow turn out ok. That was a truly relatable moment. There is no way her kids aren't eating whole meals in between her staff assisting her with preparing the set, her hair, makeup, clothing, etc. not to mention whomever shops for her, freezes her berries, stocks and washes up after...wipes up the dust all while someone else must be watching the kids. Sheesh.
