  • My husband built his own life-size Robby the Robot costume from scratch! He learned CAD and 3D printing in order to make it. This video showcases him making, building, and wearing his incredible replica costume of Robby the Robot, the iconic sci fi character first seen in the 1956 movie, Forbidden Planet. Larry and I hope you enjoy this video and wish all of you Happy Halloween!

    funny that you mention colombo. My dad was watching it and robby was in the scene as I walked by. I said "what in the hell is that" He paused and stared right at me... YOU DONT KNOW ROBBY THE ROBOT?
    hahaha we cracked up laughing.
    but wow... this man's work on this is INCREDIBLE!!!!! The way the joints move, the electrical work, the craftsmanship of the build, the 3d modeling... You're a lucky lady to be married to such a talented man! :) You both make me so happy that you have such a love for each other's passion! The sound is sooooo great too! :D

    The Twilight Zone (two episodes)
    Lost in Space (two episodes)
    Ark II
    Mork and Mindy
    Columbo
    The Addams Family
    Project U.F.O. (different head)
    Wonder Woman (as a suit performer at a sci-fi convention)
    A Charmin commercial
    A Starlog commercial
    The movie Gremlins
    His car/tractor was used in an episode of The Twilight Zone, but they never showed the front of it to see if Robby was driving it.

    There are plans available for Robby online that are the original plans used to build Robby, There are also scans of original drawings for the working parts, however, they are not to scale. The dome has to be the hardest part to fabricate and it looks like you got a reasonably good one. Using plaster as a substrate to pull the plastic over is always problematical because it cracks as it dries as you found out. What thickness of plastic did you use?

    • @TuiSnider
      @TuiSnider  3 года назад +1

      I'll tell Larry to get on here and answer your questions. Yeah, that first dome didn't come out so great, but I helped him with the next ones, and he used the best pull in his final costume. He always says that the dome was the hardest part! And didn't know there were plans available online for Robby now. When he was making his last year, he looked for makers clubs online, but couldn't find any. I think a few have sprouted up since. Thanks so much for watching!
