    For Part 1, you should've started first to tell absolute beginners that default controls can vary from initial settings. I recently installed blender 4 and nothing you mention in this video works or translates to the controls of my own installation. So I'm here pressing buttons to see what works and wasting my time figuring things out by trial and error since this vid doesn't cover this issue. It's not even your fault, this part of blender is what frustrates me so much because videos online all have different custom setups that individuals fix for comfort and speed, also to follow directions to certain teachers specification so the tutorial can be followed.

      Just to add, I went to Factory Settings in "Save Preferences" option menu in the far bottom corner to the left side and now everything works as you mention in this video. Something of a legacy preference was transferred over to the new installation and messed around with my controls.

      Yes it is. The Principle BSDF shader (materials) is just a bit differently organized, but not that much. You can still follow it.
