    Thank you for this. It's a good response to a common question.
    A neat trick regarding kerosene is using a a small amount of white gas as a primer (i like the zippo style cans).
    That way it lights as quickly as white gas but with the safety of kerosene.
    You should do a video on fire-spinning hazards and safety.

    Just a quick word of advice, "ultrapure" or "liquid candle fuel" or "uplo" has a flashpoint upwards of 200 degrees without a wick, generic "lamp oil" (brand name by lamplight farms is medallion) has a flashpoint similar to kerosene at around 150F give or take a degree.

      Coleman is the brand name of "Naphtha". Try searching for that in your area. If you can't find it I can refer you to some of my European friends who can help.

    Great explanations and showing how they burn differently. So I’d say the can of white gas is the least safe for fire breathing.
    I’ll go with the lamp 🪔 oil in brown containers, unless there better options??

      Ultra Pure Lamp Oil is the stuff I've been using for years. Made by Lamplight.

    This may sound crazy, but I've always wanted to create a fire scythe, The problem is that scythes are not commonly seen in my region, so I have yo make one on my own. What do you think should I use to build the scythe? I can't decide whether I should wrap the scythe balde with kevlar or just jeans. I don't think there is a kevlar piece big enough tp wtap the blade, so jeans could be an alternative. What do you think?
    After having watched this video I think the best fuel for the scythe would be the same you use for the fire sword.

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  10 лет назад +1

      I agree on the same fuel for the scythe that I use for the sword. I found some scythes available with a quick online search. All you would need to do is purchase some kevlar tape, say 2" wide by 1/8" thick and wrap it up. Be sure to put aluminum tape on the metal parts that connect with the wood unless you want the wood to turn into charcoal. Let's see it!:-)

    • @elhenry8
      @elhenry8 10 лет назад

      TamedFire Great! I think I can make a scythe on my own but the problem is that kevlar is really hard to find here in Tierra del fuego, ( so it is buying and shipping) so I was thinking about a possible substitute to it. What do you think about jeans? Do you have something else in mind?

    • @Lynx86
      @Lynx86 10 лет назад +1

      elhenry makinson in a pinch and for temporary use any cotton works. The best imo is the fabric used in towels (terrycloth). It absorbs the fuels very well and so it burns for a long time. Just make sure there's no synthetics in it, and change it as soon as it gets worn (so you don't get a burning wick flying into the audience.) you can prolong the lives of the wicks by putting them out instead o letting them burn out.

    • @wilsjane
      @wilsjane 7 лет назад

      Jeans fabric is OK, but the scythe needs to be put out as the fuel burns off and before the denim starts to burn. When wearing heavy denim or leather jeans, you can use them to finish the fire off as part of the act. When wearing leather jeans, always make sure that they are REAL leather. The now popular pleather pants are highly flammable, melt and would stick to your skin, causing serious burns. They would also cause serious burns to your hands as you put them out.

    I don’t do fire breathing, but I do fire eating. I’m guessing paraffin oil would be ok for this as well? I’ve been using 91% isopropyl alcohol for years...... just ordered hollow fire eating sticks where you can do vapor tricks with the hollow tube. I can’t find information anywhere on what fuel to use. I’m guessing paraffin has no vapors so that’s a no. I doubt alcohol will have strong enough vapors , so I’m clueless.... white gas definitely has fumes but do people actually use that for mouth vapor tricks? Would appreciate your thoughts on this , or anyone else here who works with these. Thanks in advance

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  4 года назад

      Paraffin is not good for fire eating. Iso isn't that good either. White gas is the fire eaters fuel of choice. Also called Naphtha. Here in the states Colemans makes it. Make sure you get the RED can, not green.

    • @themadscientest

      Buy it from a store rather than online, shipping flammable stuff gets expensive and by getting it at a retailer that ships in bulk it cuts the costs.

    so, whats the best fuel to use for my fire pois?
    could i continue using lamp oil? cause i just started again to play poi and i had some nice fire pois and recently i bought new ones and want to do it right straight away, and i would like to be safe if i use my pois (so that the fuel doesnt drip on my somehow while spinning)
    also i wish i had some people like you at my country, these fire shows are rarely seen at our state and so nobody performe things like that

    • @TamedFire
      @TamedFire  9 лет назад

      Hi Terrathrox, the best fuel is up to you. These fuels are recommended for fire artists in the United States. I am not familiar with fuels used out of country so I could not make a proper recommendation for you. However, using lamp oil is one of the safest fuels to use. It does not transfer fuel onto your clothing like the lower flash point fuels such as White Gas (Naphtha) or "Colemans Camp Fuel" available in the states. Kerosene is in between the two. I prefer quicker lighting fuels for poi. If you don't want flaming drips which occurs from not spinning off your poi properly then I would recommend lamp oil or Klean Heat (a clean type of Kerosene).Terrathrox echt
