The designer will make a design slightly different if a client requests it usually in my experience (such as making a slit lower or placing a lining in) but I believe the whole point is that sheer effect IS meant to be a part of the overall look. I think it's pretty that way and the dresses look far nicer sheer. Each to their own though.
