      Troy Aikman is the best that football have. He speak facts at everytime. He knows football so much. In case, he says the whole truth about his former team because he loves them. He stay true at anytime for Dallas.

    Jerry’s “all in” on them Cowboys. It’s not rocket science. As long as they have fans in the seats and merch is going out the door, nothing will change.

    Jerry still thinks the attractiveness of the Cowboys is what it was 30 plus years a go. Who would want to coach there with how Jerry has treated players and coaches?

  • @metaloxx
    @metaloxx 13 дней назад +23

    This has always been the way the Cowboys have operated. Tex Schram would lowball returning vets, more so than other teams, because they were so fortunate to play for Dallas. But at least Tex could build actual winners. Jerry cares about Jerry and making money.

    • @BigD-vo6wi
      @BigD-vo6wi 13 дней назад +1

      Well, I think Tex and Tom worked together, kind of like Jerry and Jimmy did at first. Schramm and Landry were so good at getting players, that didn’t do that well on other teams, for cheap and turning them into great players as a team. Jerry has been trying to overshadow that and he has not been successful.

    • @metaloxx
      @metaloxx 13 дней назад +2

      @ There’s an old NFL Films clip of Bob Lilly telling the story about talking with an opponent about how much the other guy had recently signed for and it was considerably more than what Lilly was making and you could tell it still bothered him. I don’t remember who the other guy was but it’s pretty safe to say he was no Bob Lilly. 😊

    It's hard enough to coach a team, but you add in Jerry and it becomes an impossible task, 31 other teams don't have this problem. In the 30 year since Dallas SB win, Pat's, KC have been the biggest winners and other team have won the SB without the drama that Jerry brings to Dallas. It's not a coaching issue, it is an owner issue.

    Jerry Jones is 82 years young. He is not going to be around forever. I wonder how long he will be running things and be such a force. Does he have a succession plan? I know he sounds and looks strong now, but things can decline super fast at his age. Just sayin... Great discussion as usual Mike and Chris.

    NFL on NBC Sports good commentary good analysis. I agree with Mr. Florio, that job is not great. I don’t care if they are the Dallas Cowboys man. You will have somebody undermining you if you’re a head coach. The players can go to him over you, your authority is nothing. If you try to establish your culture, you can’t do it there. That was one coach that was successful and he had to leave there that was Jimmy Johnson. He won Super Bowl. He left that job and they won more championship with the team he built. That was Troy, Aikman, Emma, Smith, and the wide receiver who I cannot remember right now number 88. Jerry Jones wants all the credit is his team. But he doesn’t know how to function as a coach. No coach is gonna want that position cause he undermines them.He might give it to the guy who’s on the team now who controls the defense I can’t remember his name right now, but he’s not gonna be successful either.

    It’s crazy how everyone’s forgotten about that article about McCarthy at the end with the packers, where he hadn’t changed his playbook in years, he would miss team meetings to get massages etc… how players on offense knew once they went up a score he would turtle up playcalling wise. How he only won one Super Bowl with prime Aaron Rodgers. He’s an average coach. If he didn’t have a 15 year old Super Bowl ring there would be NO TALK about him getting a third job. I disagree with 99 percent of Jerry’s jones decisions/antics but he was in a lose lose with McCarthy, if he fired him last year or this year people would have roasted him, just letting his contract run out people r roasting him

    I’ve written it ad nauseum but I think Jerry Jones needs to give up his GM title. He should hire a GM then work with that GM to find a coach. After that they find their “forever” quarterback although that doesn’t really exist. To me Dak is in that list of QBs who just struggle to win in the playoffs, plus it’s becoming apparent that Dak very well might be injury prone. But until Jones commits to something like this recommended sequence, truly great coaching candidates will be hesitant to go to Dallas as they will realize it will be a constant ugly power dynamic.

I'm not talking about the players, either. The buck stops at the owner and general manager. I love to hear Troy Aikman talk about culture and winning football. That era was so exciting. Same goes for the steelers. Listen to the old players talk and you understand why they were champions. Only a few teams have that today and Dallas is not one of them. I’ll take the opposite position by writing that Jerry Jones has been BEYOND patient with McCarthy. What’s McCarthy’s Dallas playoff record? I don’t even know although I do know it’s poor because Dak’s playoff record is something like 2-4 maybe. I pulled that out of the memory banks. But it’s not just a poor playoff record. It’s also crazy stupid mistakes the Cowboys have made in the playoffs under McCarthy. There have been so many bad late-game decisions that have undermined the Cowboys in those playoff losses. But I think this is not necessarily an either-or Jones-McCarthy problem. Maybe both have made huge mistakes.
