Am I still as horrible as I was? No. I get along with my life making a joke out of everything I see to make myself laugh, making everyone else laugh is just something that goes along with that. Ricky absolutely nailed his performance. I went through exactly the same...i lost my Wife after only 1 year of marriage & everything Ricky felt, done, & said was exactly what i experienced. I thought i was going insane & assumed i was the only person in the world who ever felt the way i did until i watched Afterlife.
Afterlife is honestly a masterpiece, it’s both funny and incredibly sad at the same time, it’s a story of a broken man trying to figure out how to live without his wife, it’s simply fantastic at telling an emotional story
Lost my wife two years ago. And I agree this show is highly accurate. And highly needed. But I cant offer you comfort. I can prepare you. The pain and the grief does not go away. No matter how much therapy you get, no matter how many books you read on Grief. You are not carrying a "hole in your heart". You are carrying the void. A void that is cold, black and destitute of emotion. That does not go away. You will carry that void with you for ever. If You are lucky, you will find someone who will help you carry that void. But there are some of us who carry that void with no help, noone who wants to know. They want us to "move on". So we build a shell of hate. They do not undestand. They cant undestand. We put on a mask of smiles and giggles. But the best we can hope for is indiferrence. Nothing. Because when we feel, we only feel loss.

It's hard to explain how important this show is to me and why I want others to watch it. Not just to experience how brilliant it is, but to understand me better. I'm glad we're not alone.
My close grandfather, who raised me for the first half of my life and my mother died this year along with a close cousin who was murdered. I like to think watching this show helped. It did, but I still feel that loss. At work, at home, and especially alone. I miss them.

I instantly recognized it and it was the most PERFECT song for this video 2) the way you edit all the incredibly meaningful moments in any and every film or show is just amazing this one especially seeing how he struggles with everyday life to then his friends and family trying to help him to him talking with a stranger that shows him its ok to keep living if only to make sure that your part of the world is a bit better than the way you found it 3) this show better than nearly any before it shows the true pain and trouble of loss You don’t miss your lover or brother or sister or partner or best friend because you can’t do the same things with them anymore You just...... Miss them You miss there weight on the other side of the bed the smile they would give you each morning the jokes they would make at the most inappropriate times that still ended up making you laugh the simple holding of a hand as you walked with them down a sidewalk and the smell of there perfume as you hugged them.... You don’t miss doing things with them You miss them....... And you made sure that that theme was evident in this edit......
What an amazing tribute to this lovely show. I think After Life shows us, the many ways of depression and lonelyness and the hard times struggling with oneself. Sometimes the bad feelings overcome us and we see no light on the end of the tunnel. But these are not the bad times in life. There are times where the heaviness on our heart drops. Where we lighten up and can finally breath. And then the sadness hits us again. And we fall down in the hole we barely crawled out. The light snaps out and we find us again in the tunnel with no light. These are the times where we really need a friend. And a tribute like that.
Very good, I almost felt like crying. Reminded me of when my Grand-Father, Grand-Mother, Best friends (all Doxies), and a classmate of mine (who was a good friend of mine), died. Not all at once mind you, just remembered them all at once.

I too miss doing nothing with my Mom, just staying together the whole day. She left us early this January me and my sister and tomorrow marks exactly 3 month. Nothing's happy anymore All i feel is sadness and regret I miss her everyday and a lot. Feeling so relatable to the show which makes me cry my heart out 😢😢

the writing is really good. Gervais just seems to get it. sometimes it can be a bit repetitive, but most of the time, he just nails it. i know what its like to want to sleep all the time. the pain is gone for just a little while when im asleep.
The extraordinary thing about true love is that even the painful memories about it are pressures. You will believe that pain is the mark of the past and the love, it proves your love existed, not fading away like whatever happened. I don't know how to talk through any of you who are still stuck in the memories of the past and missing, because I am also one who doesn't want to start a new relationship after eight years. Jesus, It is hard to believe it is eight years ago, But I learnt how to move on and stop thinking about the grief all the time. Yes, I will be thinking about it when I'm alone or something is up, but not all the time. Don't make the person you love become the reason you give up, make the person proud of choosing you as you choose each other.

Idk why I haven’t found this show sooner. I’m a hospice nurse. For me death didn’t get personal till my grandfather died. I would suggest everyone work or volunteer at a hospital. It is the most rewarding thing you can do for someone else.

My wife was 99,99Pct of my life. She was everything. Just by breathing next to me in the sofa, she gave me everything I ever needed. This series is closer to the reality than people might want to know. Its not completely accurate, but its very close. And in a world where the vast majority of everyone, from commoners to poets fucking fumble about in the dark looking for descriptions on grief, this is a welcome relief.
My girlfriend of 15 years has stage 2 cancer, they cant remove it or treat it they can only manage it. Probably only be here for 10 years or less. I am devastated and scared and I feel alone. I dont know what im gonna di without her.
