- The festive season is upon us, and in the theatre world that means one thing - time for the humble pantomime to take centre stage.
While it may not be the most highbrow form of entertainment, it is for many the gateway into theatre - and what’s more, it is a big business.
Pre-pandemic, three million panto tickets were sold each year in the UK, and Glasgow has a special affection for it.
Historically, if a crowd in the Scottish city did not enjoy a performance, they would be the first to let the act know about it, as the BBC’s The Travel Show has been finding out.

Pantos are great fun! Tbh, though, like dogs, pantos aren’t just for Christmas. There is a year-round pantomime in the Houses of Parliament: it’s a variation of that old classic, ‘Dick Whittington’ called ‘Dickheads Witteringon’! 😏 🐈⬛ 🐀

This panto was abysmal was nothing beauty and the beast about it!!! not one song from the film.and the storyline was pathetic we went all excited expecting to see something spectacular and we were sooooooo disappointed wont be in a hurry to go back and see another panto
