      how can you say that it's not? have you seen the reaction to the supreme court decision? the impact it had on women? have you seen the consequences of that decisions for conservatives politically? Women because of it are more active now than ever before because of it. It literally because a losing issue for republicans. of course modern feminism is about reproductive rights. it's their number 1 issue.

    Good video, Destiny's Ghost Busters point was stupid though. The reason people say the all female Ghost Busters movie was bad because it was the all females Ghost Busters movie is because it was intentionally a Ghost Busters movie with all of the main cast being female for the sake of them all being female.
    I don't think that's weird, or conservative leaning, or anti minority to state the obvious. If the lead was a female, if a strong supporting character was female, nobody would have had a problem other than the movie being awful. The point was that we all know it was intentional and deliberate that the entirety of the main cast was female for the sake of females being the entirety of the main cast.

    • @JTJC9
      @JTJC9 2 года назад +17

      Ask yourself though why is that a bad thing that the cast is all led by women? Why is that a reason to hate on the movie, there are tons of movies intentially made with all men leads or cast or that are clearly marketed towards men.
      Destin'ys point is that the women being in the movie had no bearing on the quality and that there are people who hate these types of movies just because there are women in it.

    • @whydoesfloat
      @whydoesfloat 2 года назад +17

      There's nothing wrong with intentionally writing for and casting female leads. The problem with the movie was it came at the expense of a well written story, but that isn't a necessary outcome of having female leads.

      If a movie is written for an all male cast but has no ideas themes or jokes then it will also be a bad movie. But the ghost busters remake is hated because it came off the back of a film people genuinely loved, and the remake felt as though it despised the original and despised the people that enjoyed the original. They even killed off Bill Murray, which came off as them saying "that thing you enjoyed is gone and now you're left with us. And we have no idea what we're doing so you're shit out of luck"

    There's definitely a lot of food porn in the books, no doubt
    I could say a million things about GoT, but I'll focus on my favorite character, Littlefinger. Read the books after S1 came out, and always liked how he was kind of pulling the strings while being a useful employee at the same time, coming from nothing, etc. His death in the show was so incredibly insulting, died like an absolute fool trying to pit sisters against each other with an omnipotent brother involved. He wouldn't even be at Winterfell if he was trying that shit. Same thing with Varys, died like an idiot doing shit he would never ever do. They ran out of ideas and wasted a whole season on that nonsense. Still ass mad
    Okay Destiny made that exact point after I commented this lol
    I also am too worried about getting burned to start HOTD, but I should watch

    It's strange that GoT turned out so shit towards the end. David Benioff, one of the showrunners, wrote 'City of Thieves', which is a brilliant book. The Last of Us draws heavily from this book. They cite it as an inspiration. You can actually see Abby reading it in Part 2.

    Gonna lead with this....I think Stephen is a really smart dude. Just all around. I think he's mostly good for most conversations from his approach alone (his insight/outlook is a bonus). But jesus christ does it genuinely annoy me how hard he's missing the mark on the woke media stuff in terms of movies/shows. & to be fair I actually do not think it's his fault. Because I think there's been a TON of muddying the waters between what the issue is perceived to be....and what the issue ACTUALLY is.
    The real issue with woke stuff is this. It's not simply that stories are being filled with these "strong independent female" types or anything like that. I think we have MORE than enough history showing that when women are properly written, we all come together to acknowledge & celebrate it. So off of that alone I'd dismiss this entire narrative that men just hate anything with women in it. No the problem is when said strong women in said stories are FORCED into those positions. & to take it a step further because it's NOT just the forcing that's the issue, but these things are enforced at the expense of literally everything and everyone else. (A GOOD example of this is Stephens take about how every GoT character goes from interesting to garbage as soon as their story crosses paths with Danys)
    This isn't exactly a secret either. There are tons of women you can find in these conversations who also hate this practice because it just rings of being tone deaf for what women are actually seeking with the entire equality thing. Most of them will point out that they don't want any of these perceived "higher" positions with anything if it has to come at the cost of the men around them. They want to be seen in the same exact light. Not above them. & every single time you get these woke execs green lighting fiction that depicts the daily woke agenda....you end up with these stories where the women are dominant and the men are useless....or the other one no wants to talk about where the "people of color" are all of the "good guys" and the white ppl are all of the bad guys (Jordan Peele, looking at you big guy).
    There's a real issue. And there's a perceived issue. And it genuinely sucks that a guy as smart as Stephen flat out doesn't see it.

      Agree w everything you said. Although, I think it’s ok to show women in positions of authority over men, just as long as the men in the narrative aren’t exclusively sniveling/pathetic buffoons

      @@Onanastic i actually thought the same thing abt Nope. super refreshing to see a big film with broad appeal that just happens to star a black man.
      i mean, movies that are geared specifically towards the black community, or that focus on black issues are important ofc. but i think it’s cool af to see Peele trying to normalize black protagonists in blockbuster movies in a way that feels a bit more incidental.
      we dont say that films starring white actors are “white movies”, and I hope that eventually we can say the same about films starring black actors. and it’s gonna take more films like Nope to get there imo

    • @HauntedHarmonics
      @HauntedHarmonics 2 года назад

      honestly, i think that the real problem just comes down to bad writing.
      imo, you can make almost any character any gender or race without it feeling forced, as long as the writing is good (and you’re not centering their minority status).
      the issue is, these studios ALWAYS have to push this cliched idea of a “strong” female or black character, and their idea of a strong character is a perfect invincible god-on-earth.
      well written characters come off as strong because they’re relatable & imperfect. making your female lead an untouchable genius just makes them feel pander-y, contrived, and inhuman
      i feel like these writers are so terrified of portraying a minority as weak in any way, that they fail to create believable characters. and then they justify this retroactively as empowering

    Destiny pushes back on anti wokeism yet still tries to defend it. People don’t attack Brie Larson or captain marvel just because she’s a woman and “feminism bad.” They attack her because she extremely outspoken about her feminism which people dislike actors mixing with politics, she is alienated the fan base by saying men don’t like her movie because it wasn’t made for them, and on top of that the movie sucked. And you could distinctly feel that the movie sucked BECAUSE of the underlying feminist ideology. Quite possibly the worst marvel movie ever. At no point in the movie was she in any danger. She faced no rival. She had no conflict that she couldn’t just blatantly overpower. And she had no character development.
