Back in the very early 90s I met them at a venue called Irving Plaza in NYC. The rap group I was writing and producing for just finished their performance and Run, D and Jay came up to the group to show us some love which was dope given their status at that time. But the one funny part of that night was after we chopped it up a bit D walked off as someone passed him a joint to hit. A few seconds later Jay was trying to get D's attention from across the room but D didn't hear or notice him so I tapped D on the shoulder and he quickly turned around and immediately stated to me "I ain't smoking no joint!" while smoke was actually coming out of his mouth LOL. I was laughing so hard I almost forgot to tell him that Jay was trying to get his attention. Real down to earth brothers. R.I.P. Jam Master Jay!!!

The Black community idolized Run-DMC, yet I hated how they never had Black people in their video's or very few at the most. It's visually awkward to hear their raps and not see the people that really supported and put them on, yet they finally got that crossover appeal they wanted so bad. Take a look at the videos for Rock Box, You Talk Too Much, It's Tricky. And they usually had a comedian that wasn't Black either & when I saw them perform "live" they had their record playing in the background I think that sucks it lacks true talent & I didn't expect that from Run-DMC but that's the blueprint for what most rappers do these days.
