If you want to avoid making something for your next milestone, you could try destroying something. "The urge to destroy is also a creative urge" and all that. Or you could do a pinata. Those are fun. Also, congrats on hitting 5 thousand subscribers.
Every time I costume a play, I give my actors a 50/50 vodka/water mix in spray bottles for stink management. It works well, doesn't leave a smell once it all evaporates, and means we don't have to worry about laundry during the run (local theaters tend to run 3-4 weeks where I am). I have laundry trauma from when a pair of bunny paws went missing in the laundry while I was running wardrobe crew in college.
I don't know about subscriber milestones but merch suggestion: "Why am I like this?" on one side (mug/t-shirt/bag whatever) and "It's ADHD" on the other. Also pdf pattern pages never line up properly it's easier to cut out the pattern pieces first sometimes before sticking them together, as long as you keep track of which bits go where
What is wrong with you, did you kearn nothing from having to sew 1000 flowers onto a dress? Also I cannot believe you made a whole coat and evening dress AND jewellery! You are a superstar! Do yourself a favour and do a Q and A for the next milestone which will probably be next week! ❤
that coat is amazing! for your next milestone (which wouldn't be to far away) you could always do something you've wanted to make but wouldn't have a reason to make or wear much. or just something crazy or some projects suggested or voted on by your subscribers. Im entertained by you doing anything 3/4ths way through the video and have to go to work but will watch later
I love how much stuff is on this coat....it ticks all my "maximalist vibe" boxes. Your accountant/assistant is a great character. She needs her own outfit, sewn by YOU!
I'm not (yet) diagnosed with adhd but your acceptance and openness about your chaotic adhd brain makes me feel so much more comfortable with my chaotic (maybe) adhd brain! THANKS! X🥰
I’m just diagnosed at 51, and it’s so nice to know I’m not the stupid, lazy person I always told myself I was because everything seemed so hard to me that were easy for others. I agree it’s SO nice to see people, but women especially, demonstrate though it’s chaotic life is doable and doesn’t have to be constant spirals of shame. ❤️
@jaybee4118 Exactly! Also, I'm happy for you that you got your diagnosis! I can imagine that, at the very least, that helped to understand and accept yourself. ❤️
That's so lovely to hear! Whether diagnosed or not, if the mindset shift helps, then that's awesome! It makes a huge difference to realise you're a zebra and not a broken horse. ❤❤❤
Your coat is adorable. You are adorable and your dog is totally adorable! Why do dogs always need to sit on your fabric when you are cutting out a pattern? Dog shaped pattern weights.
A0 printing is worth every, single penny and not much more expensive than printing that much A4. It’ll save your sanity. Congrats on the now over 8000!
You deserve every subscription! I love your content and everything you’ve made has been amazing and fun to watch 💜 Unrelated-are your doorknobs super high up? It looks like they’re at your shoulder at the clips in the beginning 😆
When you were telling the magpies to calm down, you could have been talking to the birds or us magpies in the audience. Same thing really cause my magpie brain was in a tizzy over 'ohhh shiny coat'. I now also need a shiny coat. I will probably just acquire the coat though cause I'm lazy. Which maybe there's an idea for the next x number of subscribers, a good ole thrift flip. Might be easier. Maybe.
You're so charming to watch😂 The coat really suits you, I can't imagine how much work that all was- breaking it down to hours doesn't give a good understanding of the effort. Love the jewelry, it's actually quite cool looking, and the dress is ecclectically cool too, though must weigh a ton! Making vids like these must be great to be able to knock projects off your wishlist
Ahh, so while I don't know the other answers, the original Les Miserables is a book by Victor Hugo but has been adapted many times over, and gelati has a higher fat content than ice cream and that makes it taste better.
An idea for 10k subs video: making a project in 10000 seconds. It's about 2.78 hours, which is quite possible. Or making a dress out of 10 meters (10000mm) of fabric, which is too quite okay for a light summery fabric on a puffy dress. Or sewing 10000mm of ruffles on a dress? That would be even more possible because of how long a circumference of a wide skirt's hem can be.
Congrats on 5K! An easy sewing project suggestion: dog bow ties! Great for fabric scrap management and can be swapped out on his collar for any occasion
The Kristen bell movie is actually a tv show, I know absolutely wild! And IT IS SOOO GOOD!!! I binged watch the entire thing with like only 1 break. They are 30 mins long and I think 8 or 10 episodes. It’s really really good lol
Maybe for the next milestone you could bake another cake? Doesn't even have to be another layered cake, just something low commitment. Or could go on a trip, even just a day drive and take us along to do something you enjoy or go somewhere you love to celebrate!
I mean this with love... Never change, because your stress pouts are so adorable it's unreal... Like, your facial expressions are an external representation of how I feel internally, because it's not col for 40yo man to pout apparently. I mean fuck it, I'm 40, no one can tell me what to do *frown* Also before anyone asks why a 40yo is here... I like watching creatives of various kinds. Yes I'm neurospicy and ash is relatable on so many bloody levels!
Yeah! I’m a 5,000 charm subscriber! 😊 Yay! I love those pretty jade green beads and the silver stars. Congratulations on your achievement! Or did you say you had scissors? I have ADD, as well.
Question. Would you consider opening a Patreon or a kofi? I know fabrics, materials and equipment can get quite expensive. So maybe a little extra funding could help with the projects? I love the videos btw. Found you 2 weeks ago and it's been really entertaining thank you
For your very fast approaching 10K you could just do poll for the next project. That way it’s stuff you want to make but the audience is involved in picking the order. And thank you for the fun facts at the end.
_Tip for Twalls_ - Do up the pieces for the boddice first - work out any issues for your torso, starting at the shoulders and working down. Add darts, change darts, move darts, cut or add fabric, all that jazz. Make sure you're copying your changes to the paper pattern at every stage. The final version of the paper pattern may look a little odd, but it will fit the way you want it to. Once you have the hang from the shoulder over the bust worked out you then make the changes from the outside (the side seam) to inside (the centre line). On average the professionals do about 4 to 7 mock-ups apparently. ALSO - you don't have to recut everything at every stage of this process (took me two projects to figure that one out, sigh). Only after the boddice is fitted do you fiddle with sleeves. You only really have to work out the issues with one sleeve (usually work on the sleeve for your dominant arm). You can do the second sleeve into the mock-up if you really want to do a double check. _Pre-washing Wool_ - Get an ironing cloth and a spray bottle full of water and take ye to the ironing board. When you're ironing get the wool really damp through the pressing cloth and then iron it until it stops hissing and steaming. _By-the-by_ - I think I found a short story contest to enter - poltergeist, for Geist literary magazine. There's a fee, but you get a subscription to the magazine, so fair trade. They're looking for spooky, eerie, creepy ghost stories. Deadline is in November. Top prize is 500$. Gimmie a topic? What's the first thing you think of when you think of Canada? You're the one whose magpie mayhem inspiration is for me to start writing again. You get the first spark for an idea...? Congrats on the milestone!!! That's so great. Well deserved and well done. You're doing fantastic! - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
❤ I understand the love for the fabric store and drapers. Who can pass up a sale? I’m trying to avoid spotlight as it is less than 10 mins away from my house
@@ashbentley lucky mine is in the same car park lot with our supermarket, pizza Hutt, a burger place and the warehouse across the road otherwise I have to go all the way into the cbd which is great for the library and makers space otherwise bookshops and crafting/ sewing supplies
beautiful coat (well done on the pockets) and dress! congrats on the growth of ur channel, it’s so deserved! 💖 ps: absolutely adore when u say good morning/hello to us (:
Hi Ash this video was awesome. Loved it so much and the coat and dress were beautiful. Well done you. I can’t believe how talented, creative and funny you are. Well done!!! ❤️💯
You are crazy, in the best way! I think you should maybe do a snow globe with 10,000 glitter (thinking Evan & Katelyn million glitter button). And you could make something fun for the center. Just a thought. ❤❤
It looks absolutly gorgeous! I love it! I hope you use them a lot! What about you sewing / thrifting a winter capsule wardrobe, since you are always talking about how you don't have winter clothes?!?!? Love you sewing videos!😁
idea? make tailoring video, make a kirtle but modern, make wheelchair clothing for a wheelchair user like a collaboration. make a velt hat. dye some fabric with plants? make a patchwork art piece. Greetings next time maybe use a charm for every ten subscribers?)
So here's the idea for next time...make cake 😂 But seriously, I would watch you make anything, you are SO fun!! Congrats on the subscribers and anniversary 🎉
Oh my gosh, this was so cool. I ADORE the coat. I see myself!! I’m the green pronged crystal charm on the back of the collar! 🥺🥺🥺 I loved this. Your chaotic energy always makes me smile and in true ADHD style I started this video, paused it, then lost myself for multiple hours decorating my house for autumn, and then had to come back later. As far as your issues with the sewing machine and knit fabric making your thread snap, did you change the needle? For knit fabrics you really want a ball point needle to not damage the fabric itself and I’ve found any time I forget to change mine my threads snap all the time! Also seeing Alf’s assistance made me giggle so much. My bunnies and cat constantly lie on my projects when I’m trying to work on them.
For 10K, i think you should teach us to make the cinnamon roll cake. I know that's so making something, but it just looks so good every time you show it 🤤🤤😃 These projects turned out amazing!
That coat turned out so, so good. I hope to see this channel blow up, it's been a great find and I've really enjoyed going through your backlog, and/but/also the sincere appreciation of how many individuals still make up a small audience is so heartfelt. You deserve it! Your work is delightful. My brain thinks pointillism could be a doable 10k thing. On the other hand, 5k charms taught me I have no idea how big numbers really are.
For the 10k video I propose : you finish 10 (small) projects you gave up on or projects you had in mind for a really long time but never got to do. Or just one. i just want to give you the opportunity to finish something and get closure AND I'm curious to see what projects you had in store and why you didn't do them or gave up on them Love the coat, love the dress even more, it works so well, It's like a space godess's dress !!!
I subscribed at around 5250, so close! The coat and dress look amazing! Maybe for 10000 you could do a 10000 piece jigsaw puzzle? Or design your own 10000 piece jigsaw puzzle. Or a (very simple) cross stitch?
And here I'm in my full comment (long video - long comment)[; 1. I don't know how expierienced you are but imo you're making a very good job in sewing (i think it's due to you doing things till they are good and thanks to your natural intuition) 2. This camera angle when you don't want to show your pimples was hilarious ;D 3. Unpicking time! [; 4. I'm always so happy when I watch your videos coz you are so happy and excited [; 5. The slo mo... pff hihihi he he he 6. For me it will be nice if you make another weird animal (not necessary a backpack). I believe you have some wool leftovers ;p &. The coat is amazing :D and I like the dress too [; Congrats for your channel and your marriage anniversary ;D
You are quickly becoming one of my FAVORITE creators!! You've inspired me to join a Makers space and try lost wax jewelry making! Thanks for being you.
If you really wanna do something basic for the next vid, some simple summer clothing would be freakin amazing 🙌🏻 im learning how to sew again, so your vids are super helpful 😁🫶🏻
Ooh ooh idea for 10k subscribers! Condense it down to 10 things, one for each thousand people, and maybe you could do 10 (EASY) new things you've never done before but always wanted to try like idk embroidery or fabric painting or something like that? If your ADHD is anything like mine I'm sure you've got ideas for crafts and things you want to try but don't really have an excuse to yet Either way the cost and dress look WONDERFUL ohmygoodness I lov the way the dress jingles when you move!!!
Congrats on the growing channel and your anniversary! my jaw dropped with these projects, you are an amazing human. I just wanted to also let you know I love it when you let us know when you go have lunch or a snack, its a good reminder for us to get food as well. Pats for Alfie 🐕have a gentle journey
Okay so the interior of your local "The Fabric Store" was so similar to the Sydney (now Newtown) one that I did a massive double take. Didn't even know they had multiple locations, how bouty.

MY FAVOURITE RUclipsR …… I have been watching ALL your videos but wasn’t able to leave a message (problems of watching you on my TV) Been loving all of them though 💖💖💖. You are near 9 thousand subs now ….. oh the good old days when I was subscriber number 95 and you had less than 100 ……. You better not forget me when you get to 50 thousand … I’ve been making a suit for my youngest son (he is best man at a wedding and wanted a mummy made suit ). I’ve had the same issue with there being way too much fabric at the top and it’s been gathering like a giant POOF sleeve 😟….. Alfie ….. that boy is adorable …. I really need a downstairs sewing room coz as soon as I start sewing all my dogs want to go out, even though I took them out before starting 🥱. Wow the coat, dress and jewellery looked absolutely FANTASTIC…… also thank you for the answers to your questions !!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖 Tina
For most of the video, I was wondering how long it's going to take you to attach things to clothes for the 100k video. 😱 It's a good thing you're planning to change the strategy here! For 10k, maybe bake a cake to celebrate with us? Or make gelato! Gelato seems to be the theme here. 🍧 And congrats on reaching over 8,000 subscribers!
LOLOLOLOLOL This was fun! Happy anniversary! Coat looks great And the dress looks pretty but really heavy. I can’t think of anything to suggest for 10 K and it looks like that’s right around the corner😂 👏👏👏
Congratulations 🥰the coat looks really really great and the dress is also cute. Maybe for the next milestone just have a cake party and chat (at) with us - I'm frankly worried about your hands 😅 By the way happy anniversary :)
I loved both the coat and the dress! keep making your videos, I binged watched you the first time I discovered you a few videos ago. I've been sewing for 15 years and I absolutely love watching your journey with you.
Everything looked great in the end! Amazing projects ❤ And the jingly sounds??? PURE SEROTONIN 😂 Edit: At the time of this comment you are at 8.7k subscribers, something tells me the next video will be the 10k milestone 🎉 Maybe make your own thimbles with 10k written on them? 🤭
_Les Misérables_ is defo a book by my French ancestor Victor Hugo… who also wrote _The Hunchback of Notre Dame_ (or Notre Dame de Paris) and many other books
Congrats Ash!! They great! Coat is adorable and the dress looks super fun. I would suggest a baking challenge for your next subscriber milestone, or have subscribers vote on a challenge or big goal project to do.
I didn't like the example you showed in the beginning, and just thought how glad I am that this isn't me. But somewhere along the line my brain started thinking 'oh, that could be a lovely project to work on on and off!' No, brain, no! 🙄
Ash, my darling girl… don’t ever be annoyed at the Aussie birds distracting your video. Some of us used to live in Oz and miss the accent, the birds, the smells, the laidback yet healthy lifestyle, etc. Also, your ADHD determination is so relatable… In one word (or 3) YOU’RE FAB! Don’t change anything. 🫂
This was all perfection, the occasional messy hem included! Happy belated anniversary to You, Tom and Alf. (I had to capitalize the y because it looked off not being capitalized like the names that followed) the questions and answers were a fun addition to the video And thank you for for doing this, I thoroughly enjoyed watching😊
If you want to avoid making something for your next milestone, you could try destroying something.
"The urge to destroy is also a creative urge" and all that.
Or you could do a pinata. Those are fun.
Also, congrats on hitting 5 thousand subscribers.
And NOW, we understand the price of the original coat… 😅
So basically the 10k sub video will be out in what....a week😭 you're so close!
Haha not quite but I like your optimism! 🤗🤗
You’re so right!! It’s a day later and at 8.7k! Honestly amazing seeing someone’s efforts paying off!
For 10K followers take a trip to some place like NYC which is about 10K miles from Melbourne. Make a vlog about it.
Congratulations! Every 5k subscribers you should eat a non-spicy/creamy sandwich
I genuinely love this idea
As a person that doesn't sew these instructions mean nothing to me anyway so even if they're wrong I won't know 😂 I just like you and your videos
Haha good to know! Thank you so much 🥰🤗
I love editing Secretary Ash and the interruptions so much.
Love the coat especially. Hopefully you get some cold days so you can wear it out.
Every time I costume a play, I give my actors a 50/50 vodka/water mix in spray bottles for stink management. I’d buy a “why am I like this” mug!
Love the merch idea! My stepdaughter needs one. 😊
What is wrong with you, did you kearn nothing from having to sew 1000 flowers onto a dress? Also I cannot believe you made a whole coat and evening dress AND jewellery! You are a superstar! Do yourself a favour and do a Q and A for the next milestone which will probably be next week! ❤
Subscribed this week, so glad I found your videos.
Yay! Thanks for being here! 🤗

Your accountant/assistant is a great character. She needs her own outfit, sewn by YOU!
Congratulations on your 1st wedding anniversary

An idea for 10k subs video: making a project in 10000 seconds. It's about 2.78 hours, which is quite possible. Love times 5,000! Congrats on the milestone, I have a feeling it won't be long before we see your 100,000 special!
Congrats! It turned out amazing. I'm glad it's still cold enough for you to wear it before spring and summer set in!

Or just one. i just want to give you the opportunity to finish something and get closure AND I'm curious to see what projects you had in store and why you didn't do them or gave up on them
Love the coat, love the dress even more, it works so well, It's like a space godess's dress !!!
you could do 10 of something to represent instead of literally 10k… and maybe more baking too? ❤️
I subscribed at around 5250, so close!
The coat and dress look amazing!
Maybe for 10000 you could do a 10000 piece jigsaw puzzle? Or design your own 10000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
Or a (very simple) cross stitch?
And here I'm in my full comment (long video - long comment)[;
1. I don't know how expierienced you are but imo you're making a very good job in sewing (i think it's due to you doing things till they are good and thanks to your natural intuition)
2. This camera angle when you don't want to show your pimples was hilarious ;D
3. Unpicking time! [;
4. I'm always so happy when I watch your videos coz you are so happy and excited [;
5. The slo mo... pff hihihi he he he
6. For me it will be nice if you make another weird animal (not necessary a backpack). I believe you have some wool leftovers ;p
&. The coat is amazing :D and I like the dress too [;
Congrats for your channel and your marriage anniversary ;D
If your ADHD is anything like mine I'm sure you've got ideas for crafts and things you want to try but don't really have an excuse to yet
Either way the cost and dress look WONDERFUL ohmygoodness I lov the way the dress jingles when you move!!!

It's a good thing you're planning to change the strategy here! For 10k, maybe bake a cake to celebrate with us? Or make gelato! Gelato seems to be the theme here. 🍧
And congrats on reaching over 8,000 subscribers!
You are literally a freaking delight and I love everything about this vid. Happy anniversary !❤
If you can't make yourself go buy a thimble, just make one out of leather! 😁 You could easily make it a video even!
Great job, spicy ADHD sister!! I think my charm was somewhere in the low 200s.and that dress is fierce.
Maybe for the next milestone just have a cake party and chat (at) with us - I'm frankly worried about your hands 😅
By the way happy anniversary :)
I loved both the coat and the dress! keep making your videos, I binged watched you the first time I discovered you a few videos ago. I've been sewing for 15 years and I absolutely love watching your journey with you.
Everything looked great in the end! Amazing projects ❤
And the jingly sounds??? PURE SEROTONIN 😂
Edit: At the time of this comment you are at 8.7k subscribers, something tells me the next video will be the 10k milestone 🎉 Maybe make your own thimbles with 10k written on them? 🤭
Next subscriber milestone, make the cinnamon roll cake again! Something you can make and eat in less than a day is always enjoyable.
Binging this channel has made me wish I had any kind of sewing skill but alas, I'll just live vicariously through your content. Hello Alfie!
_Les Misérables_ is defo a book by my French ancestor Victor Hugo… who also wrote _The Hunchback of Notre Dame_ (or Notre Dame de Paris) and many other books
can't wait for the 100k subscriber special!! that one will be fun lol
Congrats so much on 5k! I've decided that I'm one of the holographic stars ⭐
😄 Amazing work!! Greetings 👋
WHAT!,?!???! I THOUGHT YOU WERE LIKE, QT 500K AT LEAST???
Ash, my darling girl… don’t ever be annoyed at the Aussie birds distracting your video. Some of us used to live in Oz and miss the accent, the birds, the smells, the laidback yet healthy lifestyle, etc.
Also, your ADHD determination is so relatable…
In one word (or 3) YOU’RE FAB! Don’t change anything. 🫂
Please make another cursed object!
I think the dress looks amazing! It took me 2 minutes to realize why you didn't put charms all over the back 😂
This was all perfection, the occasional messy hem included! Happy belated anniversary to You, Tom and Alf. (I had to capitalize the y because it looked off not being capitalized like the names that followed) the questions and answers were a fun addition to the video And thank you for for doing this, I thoroughly enjoyed watching😊
