a how-to for you
Status update: I’m ending the inline notes in most videos. If you feel strongly about this, please leave a comment.
First 8x8 this week. This one’s all about pocket corners, solving quarter by quarter in a spiral.
If I gloss over anything or you’re left with questions, please, you guessed it, leave a comment.
My first attempt was 2’01. Posted a dash video of my fastest so far, 89 seconds.

Please. It’d be good to know these are helping or what I can do to improve the effort.

I do not monetize this or any channel. Or this knowledge. I’m not paid for it, I share. And that includes my evaluations of published solutions. When people ask for help, I help. That’s not changing.
With that said, let me reveal a bit more.
My name is Mark Brooks. I live in Oregon. My wife Karen is experiencing rapid cognitive decline and I’ve been told by multiple doctors she cannot be left alone. We have exhausted our savings waiting for her SSDI to start. After she was denied, without consideration of many records, we hired an attorney and immediately filed the appeal.
Our son helped create a GoFundMe to help us during this nightmare wait. If you’re moved to look, here is the link:

If you read this far, thank you.
Took about 15 minutes, but slow and methodical logic and reasoning, got 'er done....hit a small wall, but when I finally realized there was only one place for the 5 in row 4....that opened the floodgates for me - whoop whoop!!! [just watched your video and you got that 5 way earlier than I did!!!🤣]
@@VFDirector congrats! That’s really fantastic.
That 5 is pretty key. As long as you see it fixes r1 and usually that helps fix r7 too.
In my puzzle notes on this, I have:
--
Also, those single 6/2 segments. In my experience, unique segment lengths AND their intersection are keys to solving many One Up puzzles. That’s c1 upper and r4 left. r4 left is half solved and indeed is a key point to solving 316.

Which is to say, one way to find these key spots is to step back and look at the segmentation. Unique features like these 6/2 lines are where unique things happen.
@@Permpuzzled thanks for this detailed explanation.
