Can this work with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K & 6K cameras? They accept LTC timecode via audio signal on the 3.5mm mic jack. I have the Horae app on my Mac that sends the LTC audio to multiple pocket cameras. Once synced they can then be untethered. I wonder if this can work with Unreal and Livelink.
I'm getting an error when trying to package a project with these genlock and timecode blueprints. Basically it says that "they can't be initialized. Blackmagic is not initialized on your machine" It works just fine in the editor. But it won't allow me to package, have you ever experienced this before?
Learned some neat tricks! i do however have a problem receiving timecode in unreal. I'm using a BlackMagic Sync Generator that goes into a BlackMagic UltraStudio 4k. If i use the ref input unreal doesn't see the ref input and i can't enable it. When i use just the regular 3g sdi in i can select it. But timecode doesn't start running. The timecode provider is still at 24 fps, is green, but doesn't count, just sits at 00:00:00:00. Has this happened to anyone here before?
@Sem Schreuder I was only able to get this working going through the same video SDI port that the video was coming in through. I was never able to get a separate SDI port in the Decklink capture card just bringing in timecode to recognize just timecode. Not sure why. I hope you've found great solutions. Good luck with your work!!
hi, thanks for this ! I have a little trouble : the TC showed in unreal isn't matching the one from the camera, any idea why please ? i've set both blueprint correctly, I have tested the sdi connection in blackmagic express, the TC is OK I use a deckling pro 12G and a ursa mini pro G1 genlock seems fine Thanks
You can try pulling Timecode from the video instead of the ref input, or vice versa. Also make sure the timecode port on your camera is set to output timecode not input.
@@3d_Something thanks, camera is always on output, i can see the right timecode in express but not in unreal Video input works but as i dont need it, i try to not use it. I will try to found what’s happened
Thanks for the great info! I do have a question in regards to my time data monitor though. So I have a bmpcc4k with an hdmi to SDI which is pulling timecode for me. So I have that and genlock/time step setup, however in simple environments my fps drops below my frame rate of 24fps and I can see my time data monitor blue bar fill up… I was wondering if there’s something that I can do so that I do not drop below the 24fps on these simple scenes. Also, I’m running UE5 with an Intel 13900k,64gb,rtx 3090 which I thought would be more than sufficient for smooth movements. Thanks again and I’m hoping you may have the answer that I need. Cheers
I followed you tutorial we shooting at 50fps so I chose 50fps in both genlock and time code provider but in time code provider it shows 24fps even if I chose 50fps in the time code provide manual fps its shows 24fps only . Im using unreal 5.3
Are you sending a timecode into the engine? It will stay at the default value of your not sending a timecode value. And you don’t have to set it and can leave it blank if you don’t need timecode
Hi Aiden, May I ask one question? When I use Two Unreal PC (has genlock receiver pci card), and I have Time code (Genlock) generator. Can I use two PC make same frame number?
A time code generator is different to a genlock generator, a genlock generator is like the blackmagic sync generator but a timecode generator is like the tentacle sync, but if you have a time code generator and feed it to both PCs then yes they would have the same timecode
Can you please do a comparison with and without genlock? In my experience with Zero Density, if genlock is not setup or not working properly for some reason, everything goes haywire.
@@3d_Something with ZD, tracking works without genlock, but you get really weird spikes and jitters. Asides from the delay/offset, I didn't notice that kind of spikes and jitters with any of the non-genlocked UE VP projects. Have you?
Hello Aiden! I did grab a lot from your tutorials - thank you for making those. I dohave a question: i am wondering if it is possible to start (and stop) a take recorder take by ‚rec/run timecode‘ meaning if timecode (sent from a camera) starts running it does make talke recorder start a new take and if timecode stops it does stop that take. I am using this ‚outside’ unreal to make a BMD recorder start recording when hitzing record on my camera and it would be great - for m VP setup - if this could also start/stop an unreal take, so inwould only have to hit record on my real world camera. I know you are deeper into this them my unreal knowledg is, so I thought it’s ok to ask as you might give me a hint how this can be achieved. Thank you.
Hey Aiden, I’ve tried this with the vice a few times. I do get the everything right but my final result of the camera track data isn’t really good. Seems to have a lot of noise in it. Even with the camera steady it appears to be jittering and moving in one place. Is that because that’s the best vive can do? Am I missing something? Any help on this would be much appreciated!
Have you had success getting a TC feed from a time code generator via decklink SDI in? I've not been able to get decklink to recognize the feed. It's almost like because there is no video (only TC data) the card doesn't recognize it.
Yeah, that's likely going to be the go. Spent a couple of days with a decent TC generator but couldn't get them talking. You mentioned something in this video about higher end decklink's being able to re-configure their inputs for TC so thought that might be an option. Doco is so hard to find on this stuff :-)

I've found that the timecode and genlock do not seem to activate in a packaged build. Is this something you've encountered?

Solved, need to make sure to not set the input to AUTO, having the right format was the solution.

Any chance you could do i Motive / Esync2 / Timecode video? Haha probably an odd request, but Im just now getting into it..

Do you know if we can get timecode from HTC Vive ?
HTC vive does not have a timecode as far as I know.
What if by getting the genlock data into a blueprint , we can lock the tick time of the vive for example , this can make the tracker have a genlock ?!
