It was in our minds that this could happen, but we didn't want to believe it. A league wouldn't shut itself down before their inaugural season was finished, we all said. They're not going to leave their employees in the dark.
On April 2nd, that all changed: The AAF, as we know it, has been suspended. Quite possibly, they will never play another league game again. The storylines that were unfolding throughout the season are now lost. The Orlando Apollos getting the '94 Expos treatment, among other missing endings.
As much as you would want to root for the league, the organizational and managerial aspects of the AAF were an absolute mess. Costly mistakes multiplied by rushing the league and having no secure funding gave it a premature death.
What are the aftereffects? Who is truly responsible? This video may answer that... unfortunately.
Whan.
UrinatingTree again the owners of the leagues screwed us over
UrinatingTree 😂
Elmer Fudd would be proud.
🙌
Anyone want to bet that the XFL will fold after 1 season if that even?
R.I.P. AAF 52 days of life
52 days of lie
It was there and then it was gone.
The AAF maybe dead... but their players legacies will live on
Go Broncos!
Well it isn't the first mess to have something to do with 52
The AAF: the modern old yeller.
Tom literally took this league out back and well... you get the idea. Still sad from the movie. Sorry everyone.
Was this the Sacrifice needed to get Raleigh back to postseason hockey?
And then Tom takes the bloody, dirt crusted shovel back to home Depot and wants his money back
He actually shot someone? Wow.
The commanders actually have more people at their games then the chargers... MAKE THEM AN EXPANSION TEAM!
If anything, I can now see San Antonio becoming the NFL’s newest relocation threat. Similar to how Baltimore was during the late 1980s-90s.
Gage M. We already have been, San Antonio has always been the place teams threaten to move to, ever since the Saints played during Katrina
highway_99 Na dude they use us as bargaining tools to get fancy stadiums or move to Vegas, when we get a real team in SA I’ll believe it but unfortunately we the bridesmaids
Ruben Corona Yeah that is what I meant, we are a bargaining tool
@@Yeen125 Never say never but until Jerry Jones passes away, SA will not get a NFL Team.
I just bought a Topps AAF football card box and got a Younghoe Koo card.
Totally worth it.
How much for it?
He’s with the falcons now lol he’s really good tho
R. Jakobi that’s prolly worth something now
Cu in portuguese means asshole xd
Lifelong Browns fan. Rooted for the Apollos on the name alone. And they ended up the best team in the league ready to get a championship! FINALLY ROOTING FOR A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM!
......aw. Crap.
Lel, not so fast!
Wow, the Cleveland curse is that strong huh? Even your fandom is gonna brown.
Lmao this aged well
AAF-Another Abortive Failure
XFL: Wow, we really screwed up as an organization back in the day. No way anyone can do worse than us.
*AAF: Hold my beer*
XFL v2.0: *Holy Shit*
Lol
Xfl2.0 wow at least we finished a season and had a second
It suck cus aaf was much better
To be fair, XFL still has another shot of doing it worse again.
XFL Matt Hardy v2.0.
The AAF still lasted longer than Antonio Brown in Buffalo.
He never came to Buffalo but cute
Y'all don't want that locker room cancer...
Or AJ McCarron’s time in Cleveland
Or Josh McDaniels’s time with the Colts
Melo with the hawks
Ahhh, waking up to a new tree vid. A perfect way to start the morning.
"more patient whan"
My day started the same way.. I love it
True
Especially on a Saturday morning
Is it ok that I just woke up right now? Also, The Tampa Bay Lightning are just too good right now
That and pissing.
“The feeling when this guy is more patient WHAN your organization” lmao there’s nothing funnier whan this
That man will literally get pissed when he sneezes cause it is the one thing he can't control, yet he put together a better running shit show with the XFL in the early 2000s than modern football experienced personal could with the AAF.
It’s too bad he can’t control his “other” organization...
MrUHOH415 With the John Oliver video discussing how they don’t take care of wrestlers’ health and lots of wrestlers wanting to leave the company (recently Sasha Banks), he’s probably hoping the XFL is successful this time.
Shane Hill wait.. Sasha might dip? I took a break from Wrestling after Mania weekend
MrUHOH415 Here’s an article from WrestleTalk about it and there’s a video on it too: wrestletalk.com/news/sasha-banks-wants-to-quit-wwe/

Your background music for this video should have been Vince McMahon's No Chance in Hell theme.
Instead, AAF: Unit Lost.
jcorona984 I see what you did there.
On the bright side all AAF merch at Dick's Sporting Goods is 50% off
I picked up some XFL merchandise for dirt cheap in 2001. Wait a while and you can get AAF stuff for 75% off
Oh shit, I gotta go look
Bout to get me a Memphis Express jersey and sew/vinyl on Zac Stacy's numbers
Vintage already lol
TLOWNSU then the league will have funds
AAF after 3 weeks: barely afloat and about to shut down.
XFL after 3 weeks: Thriving and popularity is skyrocketing
Sports Gods: here. Have SOME COVID-19. You ain’t pullin’ that shit on my watch.
The NFL in its early days was a total shitshow. Teams folded mid-season and they could barely pay their own players. There was no medical BS or guaranteed contracts. There was no free agency either (that didn’t show up until 1993), Except that was well over 100 years ago. The point is The NFL had to put up with a lot of shit to get to where it is.
I said before for the AAF to survive, they had to deal with some obvious growing pains and may make some sacrifices. They couldn’t hang. They tried to run their league like it was some kind of big thing, and it wasn’t a big thing at all. They had to give it some time to grow. It was going to take YEARS and perhaps DECADES to build it. Alas get-rich quick Capitalism had to win out.
Get-rich quick never works. Ever.
@Matty Zee Pretty much. IFL survives by being a regional league, and the AFL tried to grow too fast, ending up becoming a joke.
Yeah I mean I get they are playing in massive stadiums but 10.000ish people for brand new teams in a brand new league isn't half bad. Solid foundations to build on at the very least.
Yep, the NFL was around for almost 40 years before it really became that big of a deal nationally.
Matty Zee
And the XFL will crash early on too. There is just NO brand or audience for this to set yourself up like some big time league. The XFL will lose money. Lots of it. The AAF bailed at the first sign of trouble. Weak sauce.
You have to be in it for the long haul and prepare to make tough choices and sacrifices. I saw no dedication from the AAF and I definitely don’t see it from Vince McMahon and the XFL.
The NFL had to deal with the Great Depression and World War 2. These assholes quit, and it’s very weak.
@Matty Zee yea, you right. people forget, but the NBA had a different name for its first few years. and the idea of playing a game, basketball, as a career, post college, was laughable. like the idea was to get a regular job. playing ball for years as an adult was absurd back then. shit i made instagram in 2014, and it finally took off in 2017....everything takes time to develop. aaf was doomed before it started tho....xfl is next to fail
This can’t be an even worse blunder. I hope all the players in the class action suit take the league for everything they got, just to show management accountability
Dessin Karms Problem is, the AAF lost everything they got already.
Dessin Karms the AAF owes nothing because they are bankrupt. They aren’t not paying the players bills because they don’t like them, it’s more that they are over 300M in debt to creditors. They are likely released from existing debts including the creditors and the players. So there isn’t even a case… the league is gone. Poof. There’s no money to get out of them
But the league doesn't have anything. Really fucked up for the guys who got injured.
In the US, it’s illegal to make binding contracts that you lied about.
Say, for instance, I told your Union I can support the financial payments for your employees for the next 3 years to operate, you can sign that paperwork saying you will do it. Now, then I close you out of my building and fire you then file for bankruptcy. That turns into info people can access (credit reports and the like, Tree got the info somehow...) showing I actually had no financial revenue to pay employees, even though I told them I could.
Now, the Union sues me for false pretenses, the court case rules towards the employees (players) and bans the employers (executives of AAF) from operating as a CEO, CFO, or some other form of business leadership via the SEC (like with Elon Musk being CEO and Tesla ‘threatening’ going private, they forced him to step down and is currently under their microscope again for possibly violating it). This could be argued as a breach in a contract and a direct violation of SEC laws.
The players most likely wouldn’t get any money, or bills paid for. However, it could bar the architects of the AAF from doing anything like it again.
Orlando Apollos: Football’s ‘94 Expos
RIP The AAF
Cause of death: shady business practices
The Engie That Cried Nope not really shady business practices, more like their #1 investor was a sleaze bag who basically paid nothing he said he would
Is this the sacrifice that was needed to get the hurricanes back to the playoffs?
If mere sleaziness could kill leagues, FIFA would not exist.
Dundon caring about his Hurricanes being in the playoffs and getting the karma he deserves.
UNIT LOST
A moment silence for all that we lost over the past week.
*AAF* - "Get lost"
NixPixSix football gods show no mercy
Amen
It's actually "Unit Lost".
@@ricosuave7834 Correct, but if we're really going for the proper effect, it should be audio of a particularly throat searing Vince McMahon "You're Faghghghghgred!"
Hopefully Vince McMahon has paid attention to what happened to the AAF and with having the experience of the last xfl, he won’t make the same mistakes
At least McMahon has one major advantage - he doesn't have to go begging to get startup capital.
Don't worry. If WWE and AAF have teach us something, is that Vinnie Mac won't commit the same mistakes that the AAF... he will commit other mistakes
@@angelrobles7201 😂😂😂
Think again. The EX-FL filed for bankruptcy
@@davidbuswa9425 cos of a massive external factor like a pandemic which has affected stocks. The XFL did nothing wrong for a on field product perspective and had money to last at least a season
And in 2023, we have the XFL and the USFL, plus that American football league in Europe.
Fast-forward to 2024, the XFL & USFL merged into the UFL with the former’s now surviving as conferences
If the XFL wants 10 teams they HAVE to pick up San Antonio and San Diego
XFL: we really screwed up. AAF: look what I can do
XFL2.0: wow I am not doing so bad
Corona virus: hold my beer
This league had promise only to become the football version of the Kris Humphries/Kim Kardashian marriage
That marriage, ironically, lasted longer than the AAF.
Andrew Martin dont mention them is free publicity
Lol
This league had no promise from the start wdym lmao
Love how everyone here is talking about waking up to tree and I'm over here about to go to sleep.
4 years later and it still hurts. The Commanders were so fun to watch
Well with Dan Snyder sell the Deadskins might relocate to SA
At least the XFL got to there championship 😂😂😂
*their
I know but I couldn’t be bothered to correct it 😂😂😂😂
The Orlando Apollo’s fans are triggered
MrUHOH415 Arizona was going to beat them anyways
Well... there goes any chance of having the AAF champ against the XFL Champ inside Hell in A Cell
*"I just think that the AAF is just to good right now!"*
So, basically, every game played in the AAF was a Tank Bowl.
Or a Pro Bowl without the narrow posts
*Congrats, Lightning! (2019 Edition)*
0:03 put captions on and it says the videos is brought to you by CTE 😂😂
Oh god lol.
And now there is going to be a rebirth of the USFL starting in April 2022... I can already tell you that it won't last a season
I'm almost certain the USFL will flop. The league debuts next month at the time of typing this comment and there's zero buzz surrounding it, less than the XFL in 2020 and even less than the AAF the year before it
Poor San Antonio fans, they proved that they have been waiting for a football team, just for their hopes and dreams to be shat on after the AAF folded.
Corporate sponsors include "Moustache Wax and Skinny Jeans Emporium", "Critical Cycles", "Rise Cold Brew Coffee"... $20 microbrews, $15 kombucha and $10 for a kimchi street taco
Vince could give them an XFL team, or maybe just maybe... Goodell May expand to San Antonio
Didn’t San Antonio have a CFL team during their brief US expansion? Maybe it was the USFL.
You have the Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are not San Antonio’s team though. Plus, it’s the Cowboys.
“At least you can still see one winning team in Florida”
Yeah...
Tortelleli and the Union Soldiers would like to have a word with you.
XFL made a some of pro bowl caliber talent, Tommy Maddox, Rod Smart as a returner. Let's see what the AAF guys do, if they don't go in mass to the XFL that just got a bunch of talent.
It kinda made you wonder how Maddox could have turned out if he had waited one more year before entering the draft in 1992. It was believed that Dan Reeves drafted him to spite and replace Elway.
*"Its funny how things can change by snapping your fingers"*

Who else is waiting for the Tampa Bay choke video??
Wish granted.
When the chairman of wwe (Vince McMahon) is more patient than you something has gone horribly wrong
In the case of Ebersol, it appears the apple has fallen very far from the tree. Also I don't think Jerry Jones would ever allow a franchise in San Antonio or anything to interfere with his solid support base especially in South Texas.
Not just Jerry Jones, Bob McNair as well. Those two would NEVER allow another NFL team in the state. Especially Jones.
Actually, the NFL does have a minor league, it's called College Football.
at least the World Football League, the least successful league, completed a whole season and a half before folding
I feel most badly for the players (hopefully most get signed in the NFL) and those who got injured
I am more than excited for a Congrats Lightning video
When you die in a faster span of time than the WFL and XFL...you're now officially the biggest disaster of a football league EVER!
I'm still mad they just shut aaf down I loved it man like fr man serious man
One thing the AAF did was demonstrate that there was actually a hunger for spring football, and enough talent to put a good product on display. I can't help but wonder if a humbler league with a more solid business approach might look at that and decide to give it another go.
Patience is a virtue
Kng Tch the aaf isnt done forever, it may come back next year or maybe even next week
Captain Fangle Hahahahahagahahahahagagagahahagahahahahha
*RRRRRRRRALEIGH! WE JUST KILLED THE AAF! PLEASE COME TO OUR GAMES!!!!*
The only AAF I think of when I hear it is the radio station in Boston (I'm not from Boston, just letting you know). RIP WAAF 💛
The Football Gods show no mercy, amen.
The USFL actually finished their season.
At least there was an AAF tank bowl
It's a really sad tale. I loved watching the AAF and I had hoped it would stick around. Unfortunately, the league was too impatient and was killed by behind the scenes stuff. Depressing
Last time I came this early I became a father
😂
LOLCHILDSUPPORT
Just poetic my good sir
Lol
Last time I saw that I would tell you to GET A FUCKING CONDOM
...and after 1 week, the XFL has apparently outperformed the AAF in overall ticket revenue.
That and I'm confident that not only will the league finish the season, but should actually survive a few years. The league secured funding (you can thank Vince McMahon for that) but you can actually watch the games on channels we're used to. Pretty soon, corporate sponsors will kick in. The Renegades were advertising on their helmets.
IPTV for cheap even though wwe isn’t as hot as it was in the 90s and early 2000s Vince still has a shit ton of money.
@@iptvforcheap4756 The Defemders had Progressive advertising on the 35 yard line.
@@supersasukemaniac All the teams will! That's one partnership that's set in stone. The Renegades were the only ones, so far, that advertised independently from the rest of the league.
And it will likely continue outperforming the AAF all season long.
ur gonna have a field day about the blue jackets sweeping the lightning
Back in the mid-90's, I remember there being a huge amount of buzz regarding a potential new women's pro basketball league. Every previous attempt had ended in catastrophe, with the last one, the Liberty Basketball Association, folding after _the very first game.)_ But this time would be different, we were assured. The fanbase was there! The money was there! The smart leadership was there! Most importantly, there were power players who had a major interest in proving that women's pro basketball could be a success. The was finally optimism that this time, this would work.
1996 came around. Big news! We would soon have...
_...two_ new women's pro basketball leagues.
My reaction was immediate and ferocious. "NO! NO! DON'T DILUTE THE PRODUCT! DON'T DIVIDE THE FANBASE! DON'T CREATE A BITTER RIVALRY! PROOF OF CONCEPT! YOU NEED PROOF OF CONCEPT, DAMMIT! FIRST ESTABLISH THAT *ONE* LEAGUE CAN SUCCEED, THEN, *IF* THERE'S DEMAND, SOMEONE CAN CREATE A RIVAL! ONE FREAKING STEP AT A TIME! YOU'RE KILLING THE GOLDEN GOOSE BEFORE IT'S EVEN HATCHED, YOU GODDAM MORONS!!"
By some unfathomable miracle, one of them, the Women's National Basketball Association, survived. This unbelievable hubris, thinking that it was possible to create _two_ viable leagues, could've very easily torpedoed both of them, and it's nothing short of a goddam miracle that it didn't.
I mention this because when I look at what happened to the AAF, I see the exact same hubris, the exact same ignorance and arrogance and utter disregard for the most basic common sense. Get funding guarantees in writing and have your lawyer make sure they're ironclad! Don't compete against March Madness and the NHL playoffs! Have a clear, coherent mission statement and stick to it! Determine right off the bat just how much the NFL is willing to help and adjust your long-term strategy accordingly! Find the markets that will pay to watch second-tier football _and_ put the season in a time of year where the weather won't be a big issue there!
The worst part is that the thing that usually kills these upstart leagues (and in fact played a big part in killing the first XFL), the quality of play, wasn't too shabby. These players would've been more than a match for most college teams, maybe even the CFL. If the brass had some sense and were willing to put the actual time and effort to give this a realistic chance of succeeding, it probably would have. Instead we got the same useless arrogant know-nothing starry-eyed millionaires who think they can just will this thing into being, with depressingly predictable results.
Please do a video on nba playoffs, I know they weren’t interesting or surprising for the last two years, but this year it might finally be different
He’s not gonna do that... he’s gonna wait until the NBA finals to make the video
He's just gonna say you're fucked to every team except the warriors and that will be the whole video unfortunately
True shame, i was kind of enjoying it and to see UT talk about football again is always nice.
RIP Alliance of American Football
March 20, 2018-April 2, 2019
Better get on that Tampa Bay sweep
The Alliance really had a shot of being the most successful spring football league. That's what makes this sad.
I know I’m a bit late but, is where’s “Hater’s Guide to 2018-19 NBA Playoffs”?
It’s actually more interesting this year, the first games are already being played and some have BEEN played
But still love your channel bro
👍
(Like so he can see this)
He doesn't do that shit because of Golden State's shit, though. Maybe if they weren't the (presumably) ultimate "superteam" in the league, he might have done that. At least this year, he won't have to deal with Golden State Vs. LeBron James period.
Looking back, it's funny....The AAF tried to avoid the mistakes the XFL made, now the XFL avoids the AAF's mistakes
Five years later...
The XFL 2.0 folded, and it wasn't their fault; the XFL 3.0 would later emerged and have since merged with the rival USFL to become the UFL.
As for the AAF, nothing...
I REALLY didn't expect to be saying this, but I'm very disappointed to be losing this.
The product on the field was a whole lot better than I think most of us anticipated. Some of those games were surprisingly choose and dramatic, the mandatory 2-point conversions actually affected games, and I really wanted to see some successful 4th and 15 conversions.
Sure, this wasn't the NFL, but I didn't want it to be. Sometimes it's more fun to watch something that doesn't dominate every media property it touches, so it feels fresh and authentic.
I'm honestly going to miss this league.
This whole league was a Brass Bonanza!
PLEASE COME TO OUR GAMES!!!
A tree video is a great way to start a day
We are all just waiting for TampaBay's heart ripping shame. _SERIES SWEEP!!!_
See this is the problem, the AAF had some very solid football and I wished it could continue. I understand why Dundon pulled the plug but I agree with you Tree, it's more important to blame the 2 main owners who took the wrong money. Either way we must say goodbye to a great football league ran by idiots, RIP AAF 2019-2019.
There was a collection of AAF trading cards (as in, like baseball cards, it's not like they were trying to create a new Pokemon) on sale at my local Meijer and Walmart for about 20 bucks (not that crazy considering there were 100 cards per pack). That shit has stood there for a solid 2 years, rebated constantly, but just gathering dust.
I honestly saw the AAF as more another attempt at an NFL rival like, say, the CFL, rather than a farm league like NFL Europe- and in that level, considering the NFL was at a Patriots-hogging nadir, I was openly hoping they'd succeed at that. Maybe just maybe, if they were successful, they'd force the NFL to up their game to make it more appealing to audiences (the whole national anthem protest is already a bad hit to their reputation, but the lack of parity doesn't help- when there's only one team that utterly dominates their opponents, and the league is content with them just doing so, it's not that appealing for other teams to watch, if you know they wouldn't be able to finish the job. Essentially, the Titans may have been the league's savior, odd enough to say.) Unfortunately, a league I had such high hopes for, ended up another cliche failure in the piles of defunct wannabes like the USFL, FXFL, UFL, World Football League- hell, we can throw the countless arena football leagues, including the ACTUAL Arena Football League- that litter the football landscape.
Are they still there?
Not that I saw recently. Still an impressive length there, tho.
I love UrinatingTree uses classic game music.
Gran Turismo 2 Simulation Mode/Map Screen.
Once again, Johnny Football remains unemployed.
Like he wasn't after being injured as well.
The sad part for me is that this show was a key part of a new radio show I started at my school. Talking about a new league that kicked off that year was great, but I can't argue how much of a shitshow it was. And I wasn't the only one into this. My radio's general manager saw the AAF was folding and said the first thing they thought of was me and my show.
At least I filled that gap with MLB and NHL news, but man it hurt to lose this. Maybe I'll bring back the spring football games when the XFL kicks off, but this just fuckin sucks.
*TAMPAS JUST WAY TOO ELITE RIGHT NOW*
*Laughs in Canadian as the CFL will continue to be the second-highest tier of gridiron football*

I'd press F to pay respects but I ran out of funding and couldn't afford to.

WWE maybe it's not that good anymore but as a business it's freacking successful as hell.
@@bgx3232 He's got a good sports exec in Oliver Luck to run things this time.
He's a solid businessman, but has no clue about what modern audiences want. They're too big to fail now, but it's only a matter of time
I think that Vinnie Mac should give control to HHH... makes sense in a way, look at what he’s done with NXT
Kinda shows how mismanaged the alliance was
The XFL 2.5 managed to complete a season, and the USFL 2.0 got to complete their season
This is why non-NFL football leagues always fail.
Arena Football still lives.
CFL, AFL, IFL : That’s where you’re wrong kiddo
The Arena league did lose an entire season and nearly folded, but they are still around. The CFL had major issues in the 90s, but pulled out of it. These leagues had far more years to build on, which helps.
When Vinnie Mac has you beat on both sides of the coin you know you fucked up.
Many months later, looking back on this league, I'm glad it existed. Spring football was a thing, if only for mere moments, and the San Antonio football crowd showed their dedication to the sport. We should learn from this.
1000th comment:
The AAF will be remembered as the biggest failure in american football history.
I would compare Dundon to Trump in USFL but at least Trump waited a few years before thinking the league could compete with the NFL.
Kinda crazy that the only thing about the league that wasn’t awful was the actual games
I want you to know as a jackets fan I am touching myself at the thought of congratulations Tampa video

I love how the smart captions thought you said CTE instead of SeatGeek
The thing about the XFL is that he's reviving it; he has mistakes he can learn from. And he's not rushing things. The AAF, while not terribly rushed, was poorly planned and underprepared for. McMahan has a huge advantage over the AAF in terms of the ability to prepare, mistakes they can learn from, etc.
Hey, they thought that Olympic class ocean liners were over-engineered until the Titanic disaster. Olympic, the older sister ship, went on to have a long, successful career, even being the only civilian ship to ever sink a German U boat. "Old Reliable" they came to call her. That was a major red flag to me as well. It's something that also adds to the organizational ineptitude that was on display.
Charlie ebersol, just like his father, you know that guy that nearly destroyed NBC sports.
The fact they didn't even finish the season and have no true funding for the league shows how powerful the NFL is and how Spring football doesn't work anymore
The failure of the AAF is completely deserved.
