- Thanks to Patricia Oliveira for requesting RKO Pictures. Welcome to logo history episode 43. Today we are about to be looking at RKO OUTTA NOWHERE!!! RKO Radio Pictures was originally founded by RCA to promote their RCA Photophone sound system. The initials in the company name stand for "Radio Keith Orpheum", reflecting the joint venture of RCA, the Keith Orpheum theater circuit, and the Film Booking Office of Joseph P. Kennedy, the father of the 35th U.S. President, John F. Kennedy. They are known for making King Kong, Are We Done Yet?, Mighty Joe Young, and many more. Their first movie was Syncopation (1929) and their latest so far is Barely Lethal (2015). They have no upcoming films yet (I think). Credit for all logos and captures belong to everyone who made them, no matter if they are the copyright owner, in which they are shown in this video.

I remember watching this RKO logos from Disney classic movies and other movie industry.
When RKO was making the Astaire-Rogers musicals or "The Hunchback of Notrre Dame," it was considerred one the "Big Five" studiios in Hollywood, but that was a misnomer, for rarely did RKO turn a profit. It was consider "Bif Five" because like MGM, Warners, Fox and Paramount, it owned a lot of theaters all around the country. Truth be told, it was usually the most disorganized company in Hollywood. Thee closest it came to respectability was when Dore Schary breifly ran RKO in the late 1940s. But when Howard Hughes bought RKO in 1948, he tried to get rid of every iiberal writer or director the studio had, Hughes turned to making poorly made fiims and, by 1957, RKO was finished.
A lot of that was due to the post-WWII Red Scare, much like McCarthyism.
I thought Walt Disney bought the RKO franchise.
They had a damn good run while it lasted, though. Orson Welles’ masterpieces, Fred and Ginger, It’s A Wonderful Life, King Kong, numerous films noir . . . they left a HUGE mark on film history in a very short time.
The term „Radio“ and the name „Radio Keith Orpheum“, the radio tower, all this was the special obsession of RCA boss David Sarnoff, co-founder of RKO, who considered himself as the „Father of American Brodcasting“.
„Radio City“ in New York as the headquarter of RCA was never realized, only the Radio City Music Hall as a part of the Rockefeller Center.
Also, NBC, which was owned by RCA at the time, had a studio in New York called Radio City and another one in Burbank, California, called Radio City West. I don't know if RCA (or RKO) ever owned Radio City Music Hall itself or just the naming rights.

I don't think it's possible, I'm afraid.
Some of his old videos are still around, such as his ITC Logo Evolution he made in 2016/2017.
