Thanks for the review Dave , i hope you enjoy the radio. Im also a big fan of keeping the radios original looks and functionality , but making it modern , and certainly not putting stupid blue leds all over the place.
Thanks for your help in bringing this project to life. Nothing worse than blue LEDs on old radios, look so wrong to me, but everyone to their own I guess
I grabbed one of these when they did the rounds a good few years ago too. Im embarrassed to say i have never tried it, i picked up a cb master at the time too but unsure what the model was. I can’t remember the story behind them but they weren’t expensive. These DDS conversions look first rate, seeing the inclusion of a TCXO Oscillator these must be rock solid. I don’t get on socials that much lately but i will have a mooch over later and catch up as some of the lads work on there is first class. Thanks Dave
Hi Neil, I never managed to get a standard NOS version, I agree having a TCXO (high stability crystal) Is a great move, I remember my classic HF Sets having them, some as an expensive option, I seem to think my Yaesu FT1000D had an option called a TCXO-1 fitted.🙂
thanks for the review m8 was a pleasure to do the radio for you ....i have no issues at all in taking a std radio and chaning the looks and how it works to suit my self or a customer ...keep a stock of asorted size blue leds to hand lol
Thanks for the kind comments Chris, your work is top notch and other than the Sapphire X2000 my Late Dad bought me in 1981, this is my most cherished radio, it just hits the mark. Regarding modded radios, everyone is different in their thoughts, but this suits me to the T Cheers Dave
What a lovely piece of kit Dave I’m sure it doesn’t only look I bet it performs brilliantly 👌 I actually bought some of those printed jumbo handles I’m waiting for my mate to pick up a rig he’s repairing and he’s going to collect them for me great job thanks for the review on those to mate 👍
Guy in Texas sometimes does a external box that keeps a base station looking original. Keen stuff. Nice. I’ve got a old Johnson 4740 that is quite heavy.
The guy you refer to is called Troy Radio and I have seen it. I think he did work on this radio a year ago (only the 10 turn clarifier is left though). The work I show is done in Wales and Manchester here in the UK.
I have many vintage and NOS radios that are cherished ornaments, I'm please this is converted and I can actually use this one. Plus there are 100 standard versions kicking about, but just this N01 Version Microchipz/DT307 DDS and I'm well happy with it🙂
I understand your choice, I kept viewing your post for years, and with this radio already having 3 bands I would recap and align and just have it on my stand just to use it as a monitor radio and to just look at it everyday lol , still a nice radio with a very clean conversion,I purchase a cobra 148 GTL with some conversion the outside was like mint the inside was like a rats nest with wires,my intention now is to bring it back to stock condition when I have time, one thing I am happy there were no holes and switches
Looks superb Dave , ive seen a good few of these fitted and always watch Grahams channel and yourself's , is it possible to change the colour of the screen ? Did you not think of changing the swr meter colour to white or something . Cheers William Ps looking forward to part two 😁
Thanks for the comment William. No the colour is fixed and I didn't want a white meter, wouldn't look right to me, it needs to look standard outside , hop to film it in use this week 🙂
I think that it is time that all CB Transceivers were Software Defined Radio meaning that all processing is done using a DSP processor running firmware written in C++/Assembler.
depends on the radio and whats required ...was testing a lcms4 last night that went from 24.5 to 29,5 but will the rx and tx be usable over that range ... nope not without extensive work .....theese types of cybernets norm is about 2mhz bandwidth so 27.415 to 29.5 is in the scope of things m8

Also your work is superb, you should be very proud 🙂
Very nice looking rig! 👍
Thanks 🙂
The stuff chris and micro chipz are playing with are awesome making old radios more usable.
100% agree, I review lots of modern equipment, but few get me as excited as this radio, it's a keeper for sure.🙂

Nice review Dave, will have to do a test on 11m with me.
TRC112
I will Mate, I need some On-air tests, are you about this week Tom?
I love it and would love one of my cobras modded. I always look forward to watching Microchipz really clever stuff.
Hi Daryn, I think you need to get one of those Cobras done, thanks for the comment, all the best Dave
The big one has arrived. She's a stunner mate. 😍
Yes, you were the only one knowing it was coming over to Lincolnshire, it's created a lot of interest today and rightly so Dave 😊

Thats a very interesting looking radio.
Thanks Fred, it certainly is, 1984 radio with bang up to date technology fitted 🙂

Thanks for the kind comment and I'm proud Chris and Graham trusted me to show this, it all came about after the handle review the other week. 😊

Nice. I’ve got a old Johnson 4740 that is quite heavy.
It’s almost like the modern day version of the siltronix VFO

@@miker8379 I actually own a restored Siltronix 1011D and have the external VFO and extension speaker for it too, plus a Siltronix frequency counter.
@ nice. I always wanted one. A neighbor had a pace that splattered me 10 channels away. After he got the 1011d no more splatter.
It also reminds me of a few Cybernet multimodes Dave, but I really like it.
I like the way it's a mix of old & new, and it does seem to be well made.
Best of both Worlds IMO, it has the build quality and robustness of a classic and smart modern features, I love it
that is a wonderful classic radio, it should have stayed all original as it came from the factory.

The bees knees..fantastic,If Yule Brynner in west world was a cber this would be his rig of choice.
It really is something else 🙂

Reminds me of a Colt 1200 DX I had one back in the day really good radio. Probably the same PCB.
Yes, I couldn't get over how heavy it is , from a great era🙂

Did you not think of changing the swr meter colour to white or something .
Cheers
William
Ps looking forward to part two 😁
The screen Chris used is the 2 colour blue and yellow , i normally fit the white OLED version.
Thanks for the comment William. No the colour is fixed and I didn't want a white meter, wouldn't look right to me, it needs to look standard outside , hop to film it in use this week 🙂
@@MicroChipz It suits it better, as a similar colour to the original green LED channel display 🙂
blue/yellow just blue or just white or we can do full colour tft witch what ever floats your boat (tft would be extra cost as they are more expensive)

Thanks for your thoughts David
Overkill.
Is there any radios like this that can except a micro sd for a 30sec call message
Does this tx on fm Dave as earlier ones didn’t?
Yeh FM is perfect
Yes FM on every band, obviously it has on UKFM 😊
there are different dds systems usa brazil australia france ect most ive seen disable fm but ours fm works perfect
Pure radio porn that Dave ! Lovely looking old radio 👌
@@CHRISDT307 Not too much use in the UK with no FM, we were one of the first to implement it's use in 1981. Still a great mode for local coms
Bummer that it doesn’t go to 29 am. 10am.
Great also the 5kc steps.
I only wanted it for 10m SSB use (on top of the CB channels)🙂
@@miker8379 That's superb, as is the ten turn clarifier, that moves the counter too
