Please check out the description for a link to the gear used during the fishing part of the video and for the contact information for Blu J Marine and Jack Kohut (who did the install).
This video was the reason I got a 12v powerdrive on my 16’ Starcraft, installed it myself with quick disconnect bracket/puck. I couldn’t imagine lake trout jigging at round valley reservoir in nj without spot lock- I can hover directly over proven spots I’ve marked on my helix 7 fish sonar. In summary “Game changer”!! Thanks for publishing, really nice boat btw!
Thanks Paul and yes, gamechanger for sure. My good friend John Skinner (of John Skinner Fishing here on RUclips) has the same boat and it’s an amazing small, trailerable fishing machine.
Came up in my recommended so why not give it another watch! Also we love the minn kota, first year using it and man it really is such a difference, used it for fluke on sunday and it helped us pick up some fish when the drift was over 2 knots! Put her in a northern heading and got our drift to 1.3
*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*
If you can afford it then it’s definitely worth it. 3G to 4G upgrade. Those are the people that win tournaments that can hold on small structure and do short drifts on bad days when the weather is crap. Nice job!!
Yes sir! I won their blackfish contest last year and had a GREAT time. As soon as John got his captains license and new boat I booked a charter for another trip. Can’t wait!!!!
Yup John you don't play I'll give ya that.Cant believe how that minnkota holds that heavy ass C V.Im done with shit conditions screwing up my Fluke drift.I will be installing 1 on my 17 keywest in the spring...Looking forward to some killer tog videos👍
Thanks guys for the video, gave you a Thumbs up! I have a 32' Andros Offshore, almost the identical boat, and I'm just about to buy the same Trolling motor. I will get the same custom aluminum mount made, for the starboard side. The only thing I could see on how to improve your install, is the 36-volt wire dressing going to the motor. I would make it shorter, by making a small cavity on the near side of the anchor locker lid, and also dress the wire with a D-Line White Cable Tube 3' 7" Flexible Cable Management Sleeve, that you can get from Amazon. This video was of great help!
MiniBar agree on the wire being a little too conspicuous. Absolutely love the 32 Andros - the offshore boat that flies under the radar! Good luck with the install and thanks for the kind words
I have a 26' Striper and going to get one next spring. I'm thinking Ulterra 112/72". I like the trim and self deploy features. I have the Hummingbird Solix 15 and Helix 10
I am sure it cost a pretty penny for this setup but worth every one of those Pennies!!!! Nice. I love that boat. and Greeks are good! "Put some Windex on it"
Craig from CT hahaha - full transparency, I didn’t pay full retail for the set up but I did for the install - but you’re right, especially as I get older and especially for not wasting my charter customers time, it makes all the difference!
It could hold a much rough sea situation btw. Of course, it will cost much more batteries juice in the meantime. But yeah, the 112 thrust motor Minn Kota is game-changer.
A little Info for you . I was out today 10/15 and drifted the Shinnecock inlet for a few hours with eels. No Bass only some eels chopped in half from Bluefish . Then we went out to 70 to 85 feet of water and diamond jigged for some Bass the largest was 26 inches but we managed one keeper weakfish out there.
arode2981 thank you. I’m in the office today (yes, working on Columbus Day) so to borrow an old expression, a day on the water beats a day in the office! Thanks again for the intel.
I see you have switched trolling motors from Rhodan to the Minn Kota terrova. We can't get a Minn Kota like yours until the end of June when promised beforehand we were all set. We can get a Rhodan before the season starts May 15th. I'm north of Cape Cod. We don't have Hummingbird, we have Garmin. I just found out today St. Paddy's about this dilemma. Should we wait for the Minn Kota or pull the trigger for the Rhodan? You, Cliff, Sweeney, Doc, and Skinner are always the go to guys for this sort of advice. Thanks!
Man, that’s a tough one! We had the Rhodan one year and had 1 ECU fry on us. Three hard years with the MK and zero issues. Personally, I’d wait but don’t blame you if you choose otherwise
This is actually my 5th season with it and it’s still running strong!!!! Still on the original batteries too. The past few seasons, I have used it on almost every trip even when I am not a spotlocking. It is a game changer when trying to get the perfect drift going.
We had no issues with it being slightly off center although I do understand your point. My anchor locker is center and I didn’t want to refabricate that section of the boat. My last boat, a Cobia 256, had it just off center like this too with no issues
Thinking about getting a similar trolling motor to spot lock for blackfish so I could hit the really small pieces that are a pain to anchor over. Have you had any issues or headaches with this yet? Wondering how well it holds up over time fishing in chop. Thanks!
The ONLY issue I had was this July, I forgot to secure it and it deployed in the ocean while I was running 35 mph. Completely my fault and broke my prop; MK shipped me a new prop no questions asked. I just finished my last trip of the season yesterday and it’s a gamechanger for blackfish. You will NOT regret it. Two seasons in and just that one self-inflicted issue.
Excellent info; thanks for sharing it. What type of screws or bolts for the plate? It’s that plate through-bolted, or screwed? Great install; looking to do the same on my 290 SeaVee down here in SWFl.
Charles Miller it’s definitely through bolted with 8 screws I believe. I helped Jack (installer) put a new thicker plate (3/8) this past weekend. I’ll try and find out what screws and write back. Good luck with your install!!!!
Only to the Hummingbird but it also works independently of any GPS via the remote control. You can set a course or spot lock through the remote independent of the screen

So my installer painted but from what remember he did a primer, 2 coats of paint and then a layer of clear coat. His boat is aluminum so he’s very familiar with the dos and donts of painting aluminum
Awesome video, I'm really thinking of getting one of those trolling motors for my 21 center console. Can I ask how much did everything cost total installed? And how do you like it so far?
That wire across the anchor box is a little excessive. With all the holes you've drilled to mout the plates and motor why not a thru hull connector to run the wires below deck? Not only is it unsightly, it may be a safety hazzard
Furthermore, using a circuit breaker to switch power on and off is never wise The use of a perko or blue sea switch would be a much more realiable and safer option.
I posted a thread about this on the hull truth.com that gives pretty granular details on the costs involved. You can find that here: www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/1041865-trolling-motor-32-sea-vee-overview-installation-including-total.html

Beats anchoring, especially if you don't have a winch on the boat. Very educational video.

Nice PSA video, John. 😉 Good luck with the new trolling motor. Looking forward to your upcoming tog trip videos.
Been using the Minkoka on my boat now for two years linked to the hummingbird. Absolutely a game changer.
Wow. Amazing install. Saw it yesterday morning at the dock. Must have been a fortune. Well worth it.

William Lounds your looking around 3K or 3000 without the batteries/ I pilot link and ability to automatically deploy your unit.
Can you give a round about on cost for supplies plus install if you don’t mind
4K for motor, batteries, charger. Instal depends on how handy you are.

Salty Grunt Fishing yes - 12 inch Solix. I also have a Garmin 8212
The biggest one I caught was a 9.3 lbs
Does the trolling motor only connect to the Humminbird GPS/fishfinder or it can connect to any GPS/fishfinder? My device is a Garmin and a Simrad.

Is the yellow rod a goofish?
It is...
How did you like it? Good for working heavier bucktails?
No. Wonderful for light bucktails but too noodly at tip for anything bigger than a 1.5.
Who put Jack on the fish?
Dale Hawk not Rick :)
