Weiss 204 is definitely a punchy performer. I think the Baltic 4 still has the edge with a wider soundstage but there isn't a lot in it. Denafrips sounds just a little bit soft in comparison to the other two though.
This is very funny-I can barely tell the difference -but if I had to rate them I rate: 1) WEISS 2) Denafrips 3) Lampi Considering the prices, I would obviously get the Denafrips and put the extra money into getting those Qualios!
Hi, yes it's really awesome. This video was with the SOtM 500 power supply. I now use stock one and will test SOtM once again once I do some of my designs and these them and of course record the results ;)
Ares 3rd place...I think Weiss sounded best to me, but traded places with Lamp in certain sounds. For last track, not sure if it is difference in the part of the song, but Weiss sounded more correct while the Lamp sounded twangy or off key.
this is a great video, thanks for doing it. like so many DACs I've owned over the years, the differences are pretty small. I have a very expensive system using a Topping d90 DAC and it's great. AB testing VS my Lampizator GA is VERY close.... Comparted to the DAVE.... very very close again... IDK, I want DACs to be magical, but I'm not sure they are past a certain price point. Don't get me wrong, there is a difference, but not worth the cost of going ultra high end.
They can be magical, but you need to get to a DIY level to do it. The components used in these DACs are typically industrial in nature and cannot express the next level of sound.
I agree with you Weiss build truly excellent dacs . I picked up a beautiful Weiss 202 dac/preamp/ headphone amp A year ago from ebay , I guess its from arround 2010 but it is still working beautifully , I was tempted with the new Weiss 501 which has stella reviews but i will wait for a used one in a few years time and save for a pair of your IQ speakers
Interesting... Based on this video and my headphones I'd say the 3 are basically interchangeable. I could try to convince myself the Lampizator has a slight edge but I think that would be expectation bias. I also think all three are just OK. I may be wrong, but I feel like these speakers have a lot more to offer than we hear from these sources.
Good comparo but difficult to use as I can't tell what all the components used are, I see a laptop source but what about the preamp/amplifier and cables and power conditioner? I ask because I own the Baltic 4 and in my system it clearly reveals any changes, much appreciated if you could share the requested info!
Thank you t your comment. So the amp/preamp is this small little Aiyima A07. It is overall a very good amp so please don't be misled by the size ;) The cables are Audio mica reference series for power cords / USB and speaker cables and the interconnect is made by me using OCC copper litz wire. Power strip is a market one - I know ;) I'm building a tru high end one and waiting for the parts for it ;).
@VirtualHiFi good for you to DIY. Curious why you would spend $7K on a DAC and $7K on speakers to pair with a $100 amp - and then use a simple laptop for a server! Is there a reason for these choices you made, or did you just run out of money after the DACs and speakers? FYI the major reason I like the Lampi is the tonal verisimilitude and density, like voices and instruments sound real, do you hear that in your system?
Yes I do ;) I had many different amps in my setup and believe me that this 100$ amp with might not be the best in the world but it's better than most 5000$ ones. I am developing my own amp at the moment and having access to basically any amp that I might need I don't fee a slightest need to change it at the moment. During most recent AudioShow in Germany, I decided to play with the Aiyima instead of Naim Suopernait 3 since the sound was better as a whole. Looking at this amp as 100$ and so it mus sound 50 times worse than 5000$ amp is a mistake. ;)

@@VirtualHiFibased on your comments and the sound quality here in this video, I am going to buy one to hear for myself! Gotta say though I would be mighty interested in your DIY amp project, like are you going Class D and op amps like this 070 or traditional Class AB with a big transformer and transistors...
Love the way you put these videos together! I'm looking for a new DAC to go with my dennis had 300B w/WestingHouse tubes and Decware HDT mk 2 speakers. I don't have the luxury of trying multiple DAC, your videos are very helpful.
Ares while sounding quite analogue for the money is at a different level. While still being amazing DAC for 1000Euro it cant compete with lampi and Weiss but that doesn't mean much since with better PSU Weiss is 4 times the proce of Ares ;)
Through my Focal Choras, the Lampizator had the best soundstage. It sounded the most refined of the 3. The Weiss has a little bite I didn’t notice with the other 2. I own the Aries 12th, I wish I never heard the Lampizator clip 😩 Then again, it costs a LOT more. I can’t unhear the improvement lol
Combined ? tha's hard. I'd go for Ayima A07 for the Amp - 200$ with good Power suppy. I'd add Denafrips Ares 2 and stream music from Laptop / phone and later on stretch the budget a bit for a streamer.
Typical modern pop sound-exceptionally breathy technique-not really on the vocal cords like a real opera singer… It’s like everyone these days thinks they’re singing songs by Jobim with that Brazilian style…
@@chenji1276 at first I couldn’t tell- but particularly the track that had a lot of piano playing in the high register near the end, showed the attack and the overall sound on the Denafrips to be kind of sibilantly fuzzed out. Whereas the Weiss did a great job with this. I think the lampizator also sounded a bit unnatural on this Piano- but not as bad as the Denafrips

Absolutely correct.
Yes that is partially correct, but the soundstage in real life is bigger form Weiss and the Lampi is more analogue.
Perfect. The Baltic 4 absolutely wins and is on my list now but will the TA dac 200 and Meitner MA3 and Mola Mola Tambaqui best it 🤔

I see it exactly the same way.
I bought the Weiss 204

When will you conpare the Gustard R26 to these monsters (weiss and Lampizator)?

Thank you for your feedback. Indeed the difference is not as big in the video, but I have 2 fixes coming soon to fix that ;)
I will buy the Weiss if it came in a full size chassis and quality LPS transformer considering the latest price increase.
Lampi, Weiss has good bass but the Lampiztor is more natural and best musical flow

Yes Lampizator is a very good DAC as well. Glad you like it and sorry you can't I hear it now 😜
I like Weiss sound the most. BTW, Ares II for $1,000; Weiss for $3,500; Baltic 4 for $ 6,800. Ares II make good sound for the price.
So do I 😏
Yes for the money the Ares is great. for more money Weiss is stunning
Weiss outsmoked both and it's a entry level from this brand. Try Lavry QUINTESSENCE :)
The Weiss is dancing all around the other 2 dacs , ...
Thank you for sharing your comment. Indeed I belive you might be right ;)
Plz suggest streamer+dac+preamp under $1200

Thank you sir 🙏
Via this video at least, I wouldn't bet on any blindtesting! Maybe different IRL.
Thank you for your comment ;)
Lampizator Baltic 4 the best.
Very hard to tell here even with good headphones
Baltic more bloom Weiss more definition Denafrips more digital shallow.
Thanks for sharing your feedback :)
That Weiss DAC is awesome, but $5000 CDN, ouch!
Lampi is the better dac.Who's singing at the 9:30 marker?

Last track actually weiss sounded better than Baltic
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Yes Overall I sold baltic and bought the Weiss, since the soundstage and dynamics that was unmatched :)

Weiss 204 the best. Denafrips the worst.

denafrips treble is a big problem

Lampi is more musical and refi ned.
Can’t listen differences! RUclips sound is compressed!
The difference on YT is not as big as in the reality but I can still hear the shifts between decides. Did you use headphones ?

remarkable loss of details on Weiss and the Lampizator sounds a little better than a little radio....Denafrips wins.
