When I walked the Camino, I decided to break up that stage of the Camino by stopping in Foncebadon. I can't even imagine how tough it would have been to do the whole stage from Rabanal del Camino. Thank God for hiking poles. If anyone is thinking about walking the Camino the decline into El Acebo is reason enough for bringing them with you on the rest of your hike. Thank you for sharing your photos of the mountains.

I concur with you, the descent to El Acebo is brutal and rocky. Buen Camino

I appreciate that you are candid about the tough parts of the Camino. My husband and I just did the West Highland Way in Scotland and it is very rocky. We had trained for rocky terrain, and we had trained for the climbs, but we were not prepared for the rocky downhills. It seemed that every village was in a glen at the bottom of a mountain, and those descents are painful on the knees at the end of the day! I know what you mean about how hard it is to have to watch every foot placement. Congratulations on your progress, and thank you for sharing this adventure with us.

The town you detour through has a Michelin restaurant called Coscolo. I lunch there. It was fantastic. There’s a special dish called something I can’t remember but it’s so big you only eat it for lunch. The place is only open from 1:30 to 3:30 every day.
