    Very helpful and timely!
    I am here in Zamboanguita and beginning to design my homestead.
    I am a civil engineer who knows a lot about steel and concrete, but nothing about solar.
    For the reasons you pursued solar power, I am planning to do the same. This was a very helpful primer to start my energy journey.
    My one question that is looming is where did you purchase the materials, and how did you know what components to use for the best system.
    BTW, you have a new subscriber.

    I think you got a great deal. I'm over in Thailand and we have the exact same with the power outages.
    As for payback/ROI period, it seems you will get there in less than 6 years, but also you maybe using more energy than before you had solar. Once folk get solar they tend to run appliances such as AC's a lot longer, not worry about lights so much etc, so your actual payback period may be even sooner!
    But, of course, you have already achieved your goal of power staying on during the frequent outages....well done, and great video.

    • @Americaninthephilippines
      @Americaninthephilippines  22 часа назад +2

      Really?? I thought Thailand had better infrastructure...didn't realize power issues there too. Yeah I know we use more power now with solar but ROI wasn't even a thought when installed ...just soooo happy power stays on lol

    I have solar too here in Mindanao! But system is bigger. 34 panels, 3 inverters grid tie. 700,000 pesos installed. Then I installed a 15kw lithium battery bank this year with a 6.2kw inverter. Another 120,000 pesos. But still need more panels and more battery banks. But ya it’s the only way to go with all the black outs in the Philippines! 😊🙏🏻

      Fellow Alaskan brother I am tying in my system to the grid in a couple weeks to be able to run aircon all night, this vlogger mentioned he is grid tie at only at night. Is this a setting on the inverter? Whats the benefit of doing that? I didnt have this discussion with the solar guys because we are only off grid right now. I have the Deye 8kw hybrid inverter, going to up my system to 15kw like yours but still a learning curve. They mark up the panels a lot so I am just going to hire out the additional inverter and batteries.
      Whats your opinion on adding a wind generator as well for during typhoon season when the panels are not generating much? I noticed on the super cloudy days I am only getting around 30% of the panels capabilities.

    Hey David. What is your Max Sell Power setting? If you're not doing net metering then it should be set around your inverters rating. If you're running in zero export to load mode then you can set your zero export power to 0 instead of 20, then most of the time you should have 0 load on the grid. I had the same issues as you with getting companies to provide what I wanted, seemed like they only wanted to provide their "usual" system.
    I live in Batangas and I ended up designing and installing the system myself. I have a 3700 sqf 2 story(measured the US way, PH way is 4700 sqf). 5 bedrooms, 5 1/2 baths plus the maids room and CR. We have the usual US appliances, the difference mainly being all of ours are inverter type, 6 mini split aircons, 1 x 2.5 hp, 2 x 1.5 hp, 3 x 1 hp, also 3 x 3 TR floor style aircons. Usually 3 to 4 aircons on. Standing freezer, washer and dryer, dishwasher and usual small appliances (gotta have my coffee). So now you can see why I installed a large system. I installed my system on a high ground mount. I have 30 x 700 watt panels (21kWp) with a DEYE 16 kW and 2 x 15 kWh batteries. I also installed mine in 2022, online the end of Oct 22, great not to have outages. My electric bill before solar was about 15k a month, as others have said it would be higher now. Now my avg bill is about 2k. I set a power limit on my batteries, this is to have reserve in case of an outage. I rarely charge from the grid. I spent about USD $21k for everything on my system, tools, ladders, conduit, shipping, etc. I installed the ground mount next to our patio. Since it is a high mount the low side away from the house is 6 1/2 feet above the ground, the high side next to the patio and balcony is almost 11' feet high and the entire array is 65' long. The portion next to the patio is cemented underneath. I call it the solarium. We have picnic tables under it and lights running all the way around the edge. We also built an outdoor grilling/cooking area at the end of the array by the patio. Very nice for parties. Also like you do I have to either check the inverter or the log to see when there has been an outage. I have 12 year old twins and they used to bug me...when is the internet coming back on....

    Putting a gravel boundary around your house will help slow down snakes and rodents. It also will help keep the side of your house clean from the stain that comes from the red clay . They also make the soler night lights that can save your house battery and external security lights on sensors that can help keep your property safe .

    Is the battery Lithium-ion Ferous Phosphate (LFP)? They are much safer than NMC and NCA lithium batteries. They are much less likely to explode and destroy your house. It is normally best to have the batteries outside the house. If they are LFP they should be safe. Most of the modern batteries in the last few years are now LFP. LFP batteries are cheaper and last about twice as long as the other batteries. However they take up about 30% more space and they are heavier (because of the iron in them- ferous).

    • @Americaninthephilippines

    My company do solar power plants. We have two big projects this year and one small. First a 3 megawattas plant and a 10 megawatts plant, these are for two resorts of over 100 rooms. We then have a 100 kilowatt hours system for a farm. Solar in my country is very reliable and also we do not get natural disasters here. I live in the Seychelles. I am retiring soon next year and will visit Philippines for long holidays on every year. A 100kw hours system costs sroun 230k us dollars. The megawattas costs millions, but big plants we do PPA and we charge our clients the consumption monthly usuage. We do 20 years contract so that why i can have a good pension thanks to the sun.

    I like your system. There has to be a smarter way to manage your battery power. Charging and discharging the battery reduces the lifetime of your battery. You should be able to just switch to grid power at night (when available) if your battery is below a certain level (e.g. 50%).

    • @Americaninthephilippines
      @Americaninthephilippines  9 часов назад

      Thanks for your comment. Yes the cycle count on the batteries determines the useful life. I did set a low threshold for the batteries but the batteries didn’t seem to like it…got weird readings on battery load. Hard to explain and I’m no expert. I do understand what you’re saying is true. I’m just sticking with what works for now lol

  • @Nemo_IRL

    Myself i would have that inverter setup to draw from PV's, then battery, then grid. I don't see any reason why you would need an hour from the grid each night. Your system is large enough to stand alone with grid only as backup.

      Thanks for commenting. And it sounds like you are much more knowledgeable in solar than me lol. I have looked around in settings and have seen other systems with draw schedules or settings but haven't found same settings in my inverter...maybe just cheaper Deye hybrid inverter. If its working than don't fix it right lol. Besides we have a minimum electrical usage with our transformer and don't meet that so don't need to save more electrical honestly

    So when you had the black out for three days, if the sun is shining, won’t that recharge your battery so that you don’t have to worry about using your Aircon in other words could you go on for a month? If ideally, the power is out but as long as you had some to charge those batteries, I know nothing about solar, so that’s why I’m asking because I will be moving there by June and I want to build a house and of course have solar.
