Some other uses for nail clippers from the USA :
    * Tweezers to pull metal or wood splinters out of your fingers.
    * Trimming the strings after you restring your guitar.
    * Emergency weapon - position the 2 legs of the clipper perpendicular to the frame and between your fingers as you grasp the frame with your fist. Remember, nail clippers were once banned by TSA.
    * As an awl to punch holes in leather - like if you needed to make an extra hole in your belt.
    * In the movie Escape From Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood, he pocketed the nail clipper from the warden's desk and used it to start digging out the vent grille in his cell as part of the escape plan.
    * Catapult - you can use the spring effect of the lever to launch spitwads or balls of gum in class at school without anyone seeing your arm move.
    * Keychain - that's what the hole in the frame is for.
    * Dental - the file part of the clipper can be used to smooth the rough surface of a chipped tooth. The pointy end can also be used as a toothpick if you are gentle and don't scratch your tooth.
    * Shaving - if you get to work and realized you missed a whisker, you can clip it pretty close to the skin without hurting.
    * Pry bar - you can loosen the lid of a jar by using the file blade wedged under the lid of a new jar that won't open easily.
    * Wrench - besides the screwdriver hack you mentioned you can also tighten nuts or a bolt. It wont be super tight but maybe enough to get by until you reach your real tools.
    * Nail remover - if you don't have a claw hammer and the nail is small enough, the keychain hole in the clipper can pry a nail out of wood.
    * Fishing - as other commenters mentioned, you can cut fishing line. In some cases you could use the clipper as a pliers to get the hook out of the fish's mouth.
    * Can opener - with some practice you can puncture through the metal lid of a soup can - enough that you could drink the contents in an emergency situation.
    * Emergency reflector if you were stranded in the desert, you could signal rescue by reflecting the sunlight off the flat side of the clipper.
    * Mechanical Engineering education - you can use the nail clipper to illustrate how a 4 bar linkage works.
    * Gear train jammer - not a common application but with luck you could throw the clipper into the gear train and jam it just before the conveyer belt passes you under the circular saw blade.

I've found that nail clippers are useful for removing splinters if you get one one while handling wood. You can usually grab the end of the splinter and carefully pull it out. It's better and less painful than most other methods but takes finesse because if you clamp too hard on the splinter with the clippers you might cut the end off and then you're really screwed.

    • @jakollee
      @jakollee 5 months ago +8

That’s why fine-tipped tweezers are better for this.

    Good one!
However a small suggestion, while bending the wire if you hold the nail clipper at 90* instead of the way shown you can have more leverage.
At the end you showed some other nail clipper that could be used for opening the lid of cans as well as puncture holes on seale tins' top containing liquids.
    Thanks.
Yes, I am from Mumbai, India.

Those are pretty clever hacks, but also some people don’t get the nail clippers that have the knife on them so they would be SOL on that part to open a box but also this is pretty handy. Pretty cool. I didn’t know about the locking mechanism I did never thought of stripping wire with them. That is pretty cool so thank you for showing us this. I can’t wait to see more from you
