  • China's infrastructure feats leave world in awe. Now, a $200B undersea high-speed railway breaks boundaries. Unimaginable to the West, it's a construction marvel. China's rapid progress in infrastructure has earned it the title of "infrastructure maniac." With the longest high-speed rail network, mega bridge projects, and massive hydropower stations, this undersea railway is yet another testament to China's speed and innovation. The Shantou Bay Undersea High-Speed Railway Tunnel, 9.8km long, connects both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Unlike existing undersea tunnels, it's designed exclusively for high-speed trains, reaching speeds of 350km/h. Overcoming complex geological challenges, high water pressure, and seismic risks, this ambitious project showcases China's engineering prowess. The construction team faces formidable tasks, including strong winds, high waves, fast currents, and corrosive seawater. Western engineers deem it impossible, but China's determination drives its success.

In a stunning turn of events, the highly anticipated Dalian underwater tunnel, which promised unparalleled resilience spanning a hundred years, finds itself mired in embarrassment as it succumbs to an unexpected aquatic conundrum just weeks after its momentous inauguration.
Reports flooding in from the Dalian underwater tunnel’s operating company on the 16th revealed a disconcerting development: water had mysteriously accumulated on the tunnel floor, defying the expectations of a flawlessly engineered marvel. Astoundingly, a mere fourteen days had elapsed since its grand opening on the 1st of the month.

Do you seriously think that Western countries could not do this if they wanted to do it? The problem that sensibly run countries have is not having anything worth investing 200 billion in that can possibly make a profit. The UK would have built high-speed rail all over the UK decades ago if there was any point in doing so. Getting to Birmingham 30 minutes or even an hour quicker is simply not worth the required investment. For example, if rail users were prepared to pay 10 times more for their ticket to save one hour each way on their journey time we would have high-speed rail. They would not, and smart investors know it, so we don't. Governments on the other hand do what they do with the public's taxes and collective credit cards for political reasons, which is always the worst possible reason of all. Free markets are God's way of telling you where capital is most wanted and needed. A far better way of investing 200 billion would be to literally give it away to the Chinese people so they can help build up their own domestic economy. Not to build an unnecessarily faster and more dangerous train system leading to a destination that hardly anyone needs to travel to, and that only CCP officials will be able to afford to use.

    • @zebra5star925
      @zebra5star925 8 месяцев назад +4

I agree. The west and China have different priorities.
One uses $200 billion to build a railway infrastructure for travelling and commerce and green energy, whilst the other would rather spend over $200 billion to create and support an unnecessary proxy war, whilst its industries are colapsing.
Which of these two should be distributing the money to individuals ?

    • @mengsiongkheng113

      Can't fault your rationale.
However, China is not just looking at economics purely.
It is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
Essentially, wanting to make life more fruitful, meaningful, and enjoyable for her people. I wish more governments are like this.
I suppose, it also provides employment, continued employment of machineries, and also provides opportunity to improve their engineering capability.
This has showcased their country's development and capability. It is now widely acknowledged all over the world and has led to projects globally.
Another manifestation of their engineering and construction leadership.
      Not bad, eh!

China should build a large bridge that goes from the mainland to Taiwan. Make it a four lane highway with a large protected shoulder area where people can park their cars and stop to take a look at the sceneries and fish if they want. I'm willing to bet such a bridge would be a massive massive tourist attraction for China and Taiwan! This would help boost China's and Taiwan's economies! Win/Win for everybody, which China is famous for!

for a few years until it all starts collapsing.
US and every other western country is subsisting on high quality work done by men that are now rolling in their graves.
china "quality" is good for about three weeks until the bog and paint flakes off the cow dung underneath. doubt ANY of their infrastructure will still be standing after a century of sheer neglect unlike the golden gate, the manhattan bridge, london bridge (wait, that did fall down once...), sydney harbour bridge, just to name a few...
and then the bridges that romans built 2000 years ago are still standing...
there is no way in hell i would EVER enter a chinese built tunnel. especially if it goes UNDER WATER.
