Thanks for the video. Awesome riding! I just ordered one of these online last night so I'm happy to hear such positive comments. This is my first new bike since 2011. It will be a big upgrade from riding 26" wheels!
@@soycolombianisimo 👍 9.8 - very nice! I was very tempted to go carbon. Hope you have some good $ reduction deals where you live? The 9.8 was reduced by $3,000 here in Australia.
Flip your Mino Link in the high position. It’ll help with clearance and make the bike a little more nimble in those rock gardens but it’ll take away a little downhill stability.
Watch those pedal strikes. One took me out and I destroyed my left shoulder which required surgery. I was out of action for almost a year because of a pedal strike.
I've watched a few of your videos now as I got a Roscoe 7 last year and am getting a fuel ex in the new year because I felt the hardtail was holding me back a bit. Your reviews are really awesome but watching this video has made me realise how good of a rider you are. You've just earned another subscriber and keep it up man!
I have that same bike and I also have the same issue with pedal strikes. I found that adjusting the PSI in the rear shock helped some. Also changing out the tires to Maxxis helped. Thank you for the video.
I had a rattle similar to this on my Trek Roscoe 7. The Trek shop had to warranty and replace the bottom bracket and crankset, but it only took a week.
I have a Fuel Ex 9.7, gen 6. Love it, but I also have noticed some pedal strikes. I think you just have to be aware and adjust as necessary. The bike is very confidence inspiring and so much fun to ride! SMOOTH!
Regarding pedal strikes, if you switch to SPD with small platform will have a lot less problems. I tried those wide flat pedals last year and caught a rock went flying, out for two months. This after forty years of using SPD clip ins where never had issues. There are other options now but basically very small pedal off shaft not the clown size pedals. Bikes have come a long way enjoy the technology!
Awesome video! You can't go wrong with a Trek Bike, however I didn't notice the cable rattle until I stated watching my old videos vs the new videos with my Santa Cruz Hightower.
I bought the wife a cannondale habit hardtail and that bike had rattling cables like a mofo. Had to slide a couple zip ties down to keep it from moving around
Bike is so sick...all the way down to the smaller, more subtle Trek logo. I do believe it's the cables rattling inside the top tube. I recently got the Marlin 8, Gen 3. Same thing and it's my ONLY complaint about the bike but it's a quick fix. There's different things on the market designed to quiet that specifically. Also, knowing Trek, if they see this complaint enough, they'll eventually start handling the rattle problem in house before bikes hit market.
I DIG the Video Brother, and I'm an Ex Trucker and Heard Those JAKE BRAKES in the Background........I did hear the Peddle Strikes too My Man......🤣🤝🏾🇺🇸💪🏾👌🏾
This is by far the bike of the year! Told ya it was going to be an awesome bike. High position flip switch and will help with pedal strikes but it’s definitely more about technique. I changed the tires to specialized butchers t9 cause I didn’t like the stock tires
Pinkbike said fuel ex! Not that i care what they say..for me this is the one cause i’ve tried both. Norco won the impossible climb. There’s no comparison…fuel ex is by far better, faster, beefier and way more capable
I’ve sped up my rebound not on the bike your riding. The rear shock one to two clicks and it helped push my BB up higher quicker especially pedaling slow. Also think that has a rear flip chip wonder if they set it in the low or high settings. Free to try very nice bike, your were flying. Think your rattles are cabling inside the frame and possibly that tool storage bottle holder glove box thing.
Like the videos man. I have the Gen 6 9.8. I had similar rattling and found the glue holding the metal chainstay strike plate stopped holding and it caused a loud rattle. Maybe check that too! Clear gorilla glue seems to be doing the trick on it for now.
Yea, Matty is ripping the bad ass trails now! Shsss, going down hill he will smoke me on these type of trails! For peddle strikes, maybe look at 165 crankset. I am not sure if your flip chip is on the low setting! Maybe it is only on the 27.5 bikes. For 29er, it could be the sag on the shock and fork. Check up trek for recommendations, maybe you need to add more air or add some spacers. For noise, many bikes have somewhat the same issues. Some people add some type of cushion.
Bike looks awesome. Maybe change to shorter cranks? Kali jersey is 🔥 I have their Invader 2 trail helmet. 🤙 I like how the music in your video doesn't overpower your voice.
Bro, you are killing it I miss the wheelies in to the trail! And the back flips haven’t seen that since you landed in Walmart ! Great video thinking about this or the Siskiu T7 🤔. Looking forward to the next one 🤙🏾
Watching your old videos so not sure if you already got em, but i switched to 160mm cranks and really like it. Don't get strikes often, but if you're hitting black tech trails it's kinda unavoidable. Just wanna be careful in the sketchy sections. Nice riding!!
Another great video Matty. I think last video with the EX-8, you mentioned the mino link was set in the low downhill position? Set in high might lift the BB enough to minimize pedal strikes. My friend has an older EX-8 and had the same problem. He is thinking of going to 165 mm cranks as well as flipping the chip to high. Thanks for the great content, keep it up. 👍🏻
Great video and bike! I have a mullet gen 6 also in size M. Quick question: what are your GoPro settings? I’d like to try them out, as my videos don’t look nearly as good. Thx!
I really enjoy your channel and your reviews. I don’t know if you can test the top fuel on that same route? I live in Florida and can’t decide between the two. I’m wondering if there’s much climbing difference between the two?
Watching a lot of reviews on that bike, realize that many people complains about the bontrager tires for more tech or low grip trails. What do you think about those XR5 tires?... excelente review!!!. I'm trying to purchase the same bike, soon I hope...
What lens or frame mode are you using? I notice the trees bend the closer they get to into frame. My GoPro 10 doesn’t do that so I’m just curious which setting you’re using
I would definitely buy the eminent instead for the price. If I’m being honest, trek bikes and eminent feel VERY similar which is why I think I like eminent so much.
Bruh, You're getting better and better at this. I love those fresh perspective that you're bringing. Keep up the great work. 💯👍

I have a Fuel ex 5 2014, and am also seriously considering buying a new one. Am thinking about the 9.8 one.
By the way congrats for your purchase!

Nice bike! I had a top fuel and I sold it. I did tried a fuel EX but I don’t like the head set locking. Still awesome bike
Btw .. I don't have any problems with cable chatter! That would be very annoying!
@@juanhidalgo7043the fuel ex gen 6 headset no longer locks, they took that out for gen 6.
I went with the trek fuel ex7. In blue, can't wait to try it this weekend.

I have this same bike (in copper color) and keep it in high mode. I think it comes set up low.
Yeaaah Budddy!! Was waiting for this one! Bike is an absolute work horse- Great video!

A lot of people are switching to shorter cranks now. Reduces pedal strikes without raising the bottom bracket
That definitely makes sense! Probably easier to pedal too if I had to guess
Thanks for the great vid Matty! Well done! I'm going to order one of these right now. I'll order some gear through your links! All the best to you!

Norco won the impossible climb.

I swear youtube is trying to make me buy this bike.

It's be a while since you've made a video here. Very nice riding matty and that trek is a really nice machine.
Nice riding, Matt
I have a Trek Marlin 7 and the internal cables rattle like crazy inside the frame. Drives me insane
This was a SMOOTH ride.

What camera are you using Matty? It looks different than the GoPro I'm used to seeing from you. Guessing it's a 360 cam?
I’m using the new GoPro 12 with the max lens mod 2.0

how does it compare to the top fuel?
Nice bike, for sure, things have come a long way for you since the first Marlin, haven't they?
Yep! I’m actually trying to get a Marlin 8 though. It’s just hard to find one in the black and copper color
I would like you to review the transition sentinel I heard its a great bike also
That would be awesome! I’m definitely open to trying all brands, hopefully I can get some other shops to let me try out some bikes

What are your thoughts on the XR5's? Ive come from the roscoe 9 with the XR4 tyres and i just dont think the 5's are as good.
This bike is def on my short list. How would you compare it to your Remedy 8?
It’s a really different kind of ride but if I had to choose I would definitely choose the fuel ex 8.
Nice.@@MattyActive
Whats your take on this or the Top Fuel 8XT? Thank you brother.
I think it’s a great bike! I have a review video on it.
@MattyActive on the top fuel 8? Wheres the link? Id love to see it. Thank you brother.
@@MP19861 sorry it was the top fuel 7, I thought it was the 8 🤦🏾♂️
Would adjusting the mino link help at all with the bb height and pedal strike issues?
I’m sure it would. Trek let me use this as a demo for some videos so I just kept everything stock.
What fork should i fit instead of Fox 36 rhytm on this bike?
You could try a lyric or zeb
What is the tire size?29 or 27.5?
29
Curious when you’re gonna try out an ebike…you know it’s coming
What length are the crank arms?
I’m not sure honestly. It’s how it came stock. My local Trek just let me use it as a demo for some videos
Comes with 170s stock, could probably use a set of 165s
@@mrvwbug4423 My thoughts exactly.
Gotta be a flip chip on that bike. I’m sure someone mentioned it already
