  • Leaders of the Hills State Peoples Democratic Party (HSPDP) on Wednesday met Conrad Sangma and submitted a letter requesting the government to make amendment to the Meghalaya State Language Act 2005.
The HSPDP stated in its findings that Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) engaged in the rural areas of Meghalaya could not communicate with the local residents due to language issues.
The party said that the problem of communication has led to difficulties and misunderstandings, thereby delaying the smooth functioning of the work.
The HSPDP leaders informed that they had recently met a senior postmaster to seek a clarification on the recruitment process, whereby an explaination was given stating that recruiting GDS is a prerogative of the central government and the matter can only be taken by the state government with the Centre.
