    Heard Dougie perform this, and others, last night in Santa Monica, California. What a total treat his singing is, and his stories! Terrific! He's a living classic and his music is perfect ... as it should be, a song of real homesickness .. makes me want to return as well

    I like Dougie's song "Caledonia". I"d like that we in Flanders also could have that homesickness like the Scots have. This song makes my cry, it brings back good memories.

    Very nice hearing the composer singing his song. But I have to tell you that Lisa Kelly (original member) of Celtic Woman sang this at their concert at Slane castle and she sang it just so absolutely beautiful. So she's my favourite to sing this. ❤️❤️❤️

    If this song does not make a Scotsman Proud to be Scottish there is something very wrong as it tugs at the heart strings of every Man,Woman and Child who come from Scotland.

    Dougie may have wrote it about Scotland but it is OUR song now it's us Irish that sing and play it , us Irish are shameless in claiming great songs as our own , I've sung this song , the parting glass and wild mountain thyme in a room with Scottish people and none of them even knew the songs had Scottish connections lol. Like dirty old town even English people think that's about an Irish town but it's about Salford in England . We know a good song when we hear one lol.

    True, the Wall was the end of the Roman Empire, same with Ireland who the Romans called " Hibernia{sp}" Caledonia or Scotland comes from one of the Tribes who lived north of the Wall. The Caledoni.

    its pretty simple people
    - the 2 greatest/longest lasting civilizations (roman and english) couldnt conquer scotland
    - we beat up terrorists in failed attacks
    - and look fucking cool while doing it
    so beware

    Does anyone know what style of playing Dougie does? I notice he doesn't strum really, just picks.. but it's not classical or latin.. is there a special name for it? Sorry, I'm a new player and don't know all of the terminology, but I prefer this style of playing as opposed to strumming chords. Thanks!

    Am i wrong or did the Romans never went further north than Britain? Scandinavia, Caledonia, Ireland were never romanized?

    • @LonnieVScott
      @LonnieVScott 7 лет назад

      Horizon - Evidence has been discovered in archeological digs that the Romans at least visited Scotland and Ireland.

    @tj4234 wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some Saxons cane as mersenaries and decided to stay, Romano brittons then adopted their culture............ in England anyway. We Welsh Romanos kept our language................... which was spoken up as far as Strathclyde until the 8th cent.

  • @GuitarFuYou
    @GuitarFuYou 13 лет назад

    @piratebri You could call it fingerpicking... potentially fingerstyle, though that tends to imply that you are carrying the song instrumentally.

  • @tj4234
    @tj4234 14 лет назад +1

    @sandraokK Actually the Roman's didn't have the money to take over Scotland, they could have done it otherwise. Be glad they didn't, under their rule the Celtic languages mostly died out in Europe. But the Huns in the east pushed the Goths into the Empire, The Roman's had to then withdraw troops from Britain to protect Rome. It was then the Saxons(who were the previking Scandanavians) who attacked and settled Britain.

  • @StumptownBoy
    @StumptownBoy 11 лет назад

    Just the same, I don't think the Romans were ever Scotanized. For that matter, was anyone ever Scotanized besides the Scots?

      I'm from south of the border (just) and I can honestly say that my happiest times have been in Scotland. One day soon I hope that we'll make the move. I'd love it to be into a truly independent European nation. So much heritage, such a stunning landscape and such a proud and courteous people. Good luck to you all.

  • @bazbee
    @bazbee 11 лет назад

    The Romans left what they called Caledonia aka Pictii.
    Scotland got it's name from the incoming Scots of Dalriada (now N.Ireland).
    So on your terms the Picts were 'Scotanized'.

    It's nice to hear any song sung by its composer, but I still lean toward Lisa Kelly's cover. I don't think that's just the testosterone talking. Lisa's voice makes me want to just curl up and purr.

    • @carolwatson4622
      @carolwatson4622 4 года назад

      Steve Rush you're correct, Lisa sang it at the concert Celtic Woman did at Slane Castle and again in Toronto, and it was all the original members - Maeve, Orlagh, Chloe, Lisa and Mairead on fiddle. Glad I had a chance to see/hear all the original members. ❤️❤️❤️
