Hey Matt. Great, informative review. Thanks. Question: In the demonstration of using the lights in the dark, the light from the LuminAid flickers and the light from the Luci is steady. Is the flicker visible to your eye, or is it the camera picking it up and you can't see the flicker with your eye? It's a little like taking video of a TV that is interlaced scanning. That flicker would really bother me if it is visible to the naked eye. Thanks again.
The flicker from the luminaid leds is due to something called Pulse Width Modulation, google it, but basically the light turns on/off very quickly in order to control the brightness of a led. You don’t notice it with your eyes but it does lead to eye fatigue easier.
I got the Luminaid and I use it for work all the time. I don't inflate it, rather I hang it over my passenger side of my car as I have to work within my vehicle for 12 hours, many times during the night. It lasts for hours, over 10 hours in my experience as it can go throughout the night. Very useful for me. So the Luminaid functions as a very good car light to light up the front of my car for myself when I don't want to waste my car battery.
Have the Luci and really like it. Lasts for ever on low which I mostly use for background illumination inside the tent with the option to set on high. The only thing I wished is that it was frosted. Wholly crap just realized I had commented on this video 2 years ago. 🙃
When inflating my luci lights i first pinch the bite valve and use my other hand to pull it apart. The luci light will also almost fully inflate and with one puff of air its ready to go
This is the only review I've found that shows just how poorly the Luci Outdoor functions as an area lantern, which is what I suspected with the clear plastic. They do have the "Lux" version, which seems similar but with a matte finish. I think I still prefer the Luminaid.
My brother brought me the luci yesterday i have it on charging right now, so please tell me, does it lights indicate while charging? Because it is not showing any signs of charging so I want to know if that's the way it does charge until it is finished or is something wrong with it?

Great review! I selected these two products for consideration out of a whole range of camping lights. Prices of both have dropped to €25 for both in April 2019. For the moment I am not buying any of them since I could do better with a rechargeble AAA batteries and a headlight for reading and I don't really need areal lighting since I tend to camp solo and won't have long conversations at night at a camping table with some beer. This gadget would be worth €15 to me and I'll wait for the next improved model.
There had been a Luci with frosted plastic but I don't think they had the ability to charge via USB or charge other devices. I don't know if they're still making those.
Luci Lux, in regular and pro versions. The pro can charge other devices, but is not as bright as the Luminaid, and is more of a matte finish than frosted so it probably doesn't diffuse light quite as well.
Also no one should expect to get any meaningful charge for your phones out of the tiny solar panels in these lights. That shouldn't even be a consideration
@@MWDAdventures I meant to say for charging phones or separate electronics. I believe the solar panels are more than enough to charge the lights themselves. But I'm not certain
@@Thromnabular not true at all . Get one and try it mine works well gives me a decent chunk of bat I just throw in the sun everyday wile I'm camping . And charge my phone a bit wen needed .
Get the newer Luminaid superhero. It's way stronger then any luci, has a 3000 mah battery, etc. Luci is for some cheap camping not to be relied upon year round.
Been running my original luci hard camping for like 4 plus years still works mint fully faded from sun looks ruined but never failed once. Real world experience dude stop talking shit

David Hartson you can’t see the flicker with your eye. Just camera.

haha, that is great.
Super detailed review. Thank you
Great comparison video. Helped me really get a feel for the lights so I could decide which to buy. Thanks!
Ashlei Jackson great glad to hear it.
This was just what I was looking for. Thanks so much!

You should change the shutter speed of your camera, so the lights don't flicker ;)
Thanks for doing this video, it really helped me with my decision!
Thank you very much!
No it doesn’t. That is just because of the camera picking it up in the lens.
Great video
Did you even test how well the solar charging works? Or did I miss that?

Not sure why Luci didn't use a frosted plastic. Great videos...
They have the option for sale
Luci Lux is matte plastic. Doesn't appear to be as "frosted" as this one though, and is a little dimmer. But it charges faster.
Nice review

How do you charge it with usb
How do the perform now after over a year of use? Do they still perform the same.
Yes, they continue to work as well as when we bought them.
Does the Luminaid have the annoying bright blue LED look to it? Is it warmer? thanks!
It is more blue tint.
Btw, the new superhero luminaid uses USB to micro usb. The handle uses now velcro instead of plastic plugs, etc.
the lumiaid is annoing does it always shake!! the ligh flickered all the time annoying
Where are they made?
TIMS PRB102 I don’t for sure. You would have to check there websites.

agreed, the panel is more for emergencies. I have put them in the cars dash and and with driving all day they fully charge which is nice.

luci for hiking luminaid for camping....done...or take me 10dollar kmart power solar lantern lol
Pinch the valve.. literally is not a big deal. Surprised you struggled with it.
Work out ... don't let the Luci kick your ass. I had no trouble with mine a little vegetable oil on your fill spout and it slides right in...

It would have been nice to have seen the one light without the strobe
The light doesn't shake its the camera picking up the led like with the frame rate.
Luminaid for me, much better. I couldn't care about the strap.
Does the LuminAID always flickers?
No there is no flicker. Just the camera picking it up.
Luci sucks. I've used several of them and they will deflate in the cold. The material is weak and will tear easily.
